Yep im old and first saw the Original Starblazers Gamilon Series way back on Australian TV in the 80s. Before I knew anything of the Original Japanese Series the ship I luved was called the Argo. I knew it was the Yamato but Argo is still very nostalgic for all of us who watched and loved those imperfect English Dubs of the Gamilon, Comet Empire and Bolar Wars Series. The voyages of the Argo and the Starforce on Starblazers made me the Space Battleship Yamato fan that I am today. Yep in our english versions a lot of crew deaths were sadly cut out and it would be years before I could listen to the brilliant original Japanese YA MA TO theme song sung by Isao Sasaki and learn of the Yamato Versions that Starblazers was based on!! This fan made dub is brilliant for me cause it brings back great memories of a beloved show that had me transfixed with those voices and a ship called Argo. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is MAGNIFICENT I wouldnt change anything and am still pinching myself that the Original Yamato Series has been so brilliantly remade into the Masterpiece that is Space Battleship Yamato 2199. I still have goosebumps thinking of watching those first episodes of Yamato 2199 seeing our beloved Yamato and her crew in all their stunning reworked animated glory flying off to face the Garmillas !! To hear those original voices redubbed here was a blast from the past for all Starblazers fans. How is the name Argo disrespectful of the Original Series when the Argo was the ship that introduced us English fans to this Magnificent Space Battleship Yamato Legacy that we all know and love!! For this fan made english dub THANKS for making us relive our childhood in the 80s just for a moment, this was fun. If it wasnt for the Original English dubbed Starblazers series I would never have known of the magnificent creation of Yoshinobu Nishizaki who made our beloved Space Battleship Yamato fly to the stars and beyond of which Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is the perfect version of a beloved show!!

I totally agree, and grew up with it as you did, a little kid. However later i find out that the YAMATO ISNT such a great thing, " IF YOU'RE AN AMERICAN". Kind of tears at your both ways. General Yamato was the one that ordered the pearl Harbor attack on pearl Harbor. They were originally going to beach the the Amato on Hawaii and use it as a gun platform to win And indeed Hawaii then the United States. Shortly after pearl Harbor they found out where the Yamato ship the Yamato ship was and swarmed it with planes it took hours to sink it. Once learning the true history it kind of hurts and takes away from the fun of this cartoon is a little kid. I now know why my grandfather, WW2 vet despised this ship and possibly the cartoon. Anyway it was an awesome cartoon the 1st series the 2nd one was OK the 3rd one I think everyone lost interest by then

I just recently watched the entire Earth 2199 story on Hulu Plus, and was just as delighted now when Desslok got his comeuppance as I was when I was 13 back in 1977. As a fan of the original series, I thank Mr. Nishizaki and Mr. Matsumoto for this absolutely amazing series. It touched the viewers heart in a way that not many other series at that time could, and STILL does!

RS Cartier I love the new series and the new dub so much! But I must admit I really do miss the voice for captain okita. He carried so much more of a fatherly aged captain vibe to his voice. The voice of the og dessler and Sandor as well. The new dessler is fantastic but he’s missing that charming yet unnerving cool shrillness the original voice had. There was just something so awesome about it as you expect someone of his stature to be deep voiced and booming, but instead he was quiet reserved. To the unobservant he would seem like a carefree personality that consumed with ego and power disconnected from it all. However it’s made clear that’s all a slight of hand. Desslers carefree attitude is to woo you with charisma and lure you into a false sense of security and as a result you never realise that beneath is a cunning brilliant strategist and manipulator. It ensures dessler is unpredictable in his actions and that always makes a brilliant character one who has clear motives and goals; but has an air of mystery and subtly about them. It keeps the viewer guessing as to what they will do next to achieve their goals and motives. The original English dub voice captured this much more than the current one did.

Seeing this now that the official English Dub by Funimation is nearly complete the original feels so different from the new version. Notably the voices of Capt Avatar (Okita in Japanese, and the new dub) and Desslar are much deeper in the new dub. They also play up the Nazi parallels of the Gamilons, But despite all that it's still "Our StarBlazers!"
@AnakinSkyobiliviator11 жыл бұрын
Okay: end of video review - Great job for linking up the voice sync (I remember when characters looks like they are yelling but they are, in fact, speaking) but the fading in and out of music needs work. The music and the "Star Blazers" logo shows up too abruptly.

Unlikely, to say the least. Voyager has been pretty clear about their disinterest in the original Star Blazers (they quit selling it, and tried to shut down the website devoted to it), and Amy has made it quite clear she wouldn't participate, due to her dislike of the over-sexualization of the female characters.

Well, hot shit! Before I even knew it was a anime, I grooved on "Star Blazers" in the late '80s (yep, OG geek!...🙃). While I ain't a big pusher of reboots footage like this from Japan itself gets me hyped Now, if only Studio Nue & Tatsunuko could get their asses in gear regarding "Macross" & build on the footage they did for damn years they did for an e-pachinko game...🙃

Trust me man, as someone who was also an OG Geek over the 80s show, the reboot they did in 2011 not only spun its own story but also followed INCREDIBLY close to the original show. It is a dream come true.

So aspects of the 2199 dub that I didn’t like: - they can’t pronounce boatswain properly in the 2199 dub (pronounced bow-sun) - the ground cannon used on Pluto was originally called the Reflex Gun. Don’t know why they changed it for the 2199 dub - When the one gamilon laughed and Desler disposed of him with a trap door, I loved his original line, ‘I despise a man who laughs at his own jokes’. In 2199 they changed the line I liked the voice on 1980s Desklock vs 2199 Sure there are other things but that’s what jumped out at me. On the plus side, on the 2202 extras, they had an interview with both the English voice actors for the original Derek Wildstar and the guy that did 2199’s Kodai. Was really cool seeing the Wildstars together on the same frame. (the years have treated Kenneth Meseroll kindly)

This doesn't sound like the official dub trailer. It sounds like Audio taken from the dubbing of the original Space Battleship Yamato series 1970 and having its spliced in with footage from $21.99. Also I really really don't like how they changed the name of the ship to Argo. Why can't they just release the show as it was originally intended to be released? I mean they did this with robotack. You got the Harmony Gold Robotech and then you have original Japanese version Macross which was dubbed into English were you even have all of the original character names.

@Corn_Pone_Flicks10 жыл бұрын
How is the name "Argo" cringe-inducing? It's just a different name, and one picked for its obvious mythological connotations. The story of the Argonautica is extremely similar in terms of plot.

When I watched star blazers for the first time, I felt something discomfort with Deslok's voice actor's way, which sounds like somewhat.. decadent noble, comparing with Japanese one, which sounds like brave leader, in original YAMATO. But here in newer version, He perfectly fit with English voice acts..... Amazing!

I don't get why they call Yamato Argo in English its kinda confusing
@AngusArtEntertainment7 жыл бұрын
In the film version of the first season, there's a flashback scene with the Yamato as the battleship it once was, fighting US forces before being sunk. This actually happened, and perhaps it was best for the US viewers at the time to not recognize it in the show as something named after what fought the Allies, even though in the anime, the Yamato would earn a new reputation as to saving the entire world. Which leads me to wonder, as far as the original story of the Argonauts, were they world heroes?

Classic animation 'YAMATO' made here in Japan 1974, was exported as a right with re-editing permission to US, then exported to several western countries. I guess many American people had bad feelings to Japanese navy's name at that time, selecting Argo named after Greek myth. Not sure their reputations to that, although I tried to watch these series recently, struggling with my low listening skills, found very good work which is possible to give nostalgic feelings to those elder fans. It's my opinion, both series works worth to be respected.

matariro mata - Nothing great about the Yamato. A big battleship that was useless and sunk by aircraft. Best thing that happened to America was Japan sunk all our useless battleships. If anything the Yamato was a symbol of the Japanese backwards thinking wasting all that effort on an obsolete ship.

@mistresspirotessa908510 жыл бұрын
Why would anyone want to destroy this reboot by dubbing it? Calling the Yamato the Argo is embarrassing and insulting to the series, plus it sounds cheap. This is not the 1980's anymore, there is no need to change things to satisfy censors since there are much worse things being shown on American television. I own the Japanese BlueRay releases of this and won't pay 1 cent towards an English dub version.
@1942PANTHERV10 жыл бұрын
well like burger king...a dvd or blu ray does have audio selection...I want it dub.....you can have it in Japanese.... enjoy
@Odiex2710 жыл бұрын
Calling the ship "Argo" for the American version had nothing to do with satisfying censors or anyone's cultural sensibilities. The mission of the ship was very much like that of the Argo in Greek mythology, and right or wrong, the producers of the American version probably felt that would relate to an American audience better than a Japanese WWII battleship. You don't have to like the name, and I have nothing against the original version, but whether you personally approve of it or not, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the name Argo or an English dub. To call these things insults is just snobbery. If anything is embarrassing or insulting, it is your comments. I grew up watching Star Blazers on TV before I even knew it was Japanese in origin, and it's the reason I know about Yamato today. You are no better a judge simply because you prefer the original Japanese version, and it is not some holy grail that needs your protection. I like both versions for different reasons. You have the version you like so why do you give a damn if others like an English version? Seriously, get over yourself.
@arthurconquest767810 жыл бұрын
Odiex27 No, it is fundamentally wrong to change details of the story merely to satisfy the producers' warped view of reality. We want a dub that is correct.
@Odiex2710 жыл бұрын
Arthur Conquest Fundamentally wrong by what standard? Answer, none but your opinion. I just love how purists think they have the final word on what is acceptable and what is not with nothing to support it but their own arrogance. My last piece of advice stands...get over yourselves. At this point I hope they do Star Blazer-ize the 2199 series just to piss you guys off. And as for what you want, what you want is not nearly as important to everyone else.
@whitemanstand7210 жыл бұрын
Odiex27 Yeah well I hope they really do STarblazer and listern to the the purist of "Space Battleship Yamato" how they wanted. Its people like you that has destroyed everything about film, movies and culture, opting for special effects rather than storylline and Character development. And the Argo ? whats wrong with Yamato ? Enterprise was another oppressive ship that went around the world mass killing innocent people ( More than what the Yamato did in WW2) yet we had Star Trek and on top of that you come here and lie that naming of Argo has nothing to do with censorship ? Its common knowledge that they change the name as not to offend American viewers. Luckly like what Mistress Pirotessa we are living in 21 century and the fans of StarBlazer are waking up to that notion and are excited to see it renamed as Yamato. Only purist of 70 StarBalzer like yourself Odiex27 who wanted to keep it as Argo because you want a certain way for dumb downing so that American censorship can be happy. What you want Odiex27 is not nearly as important to everyone else. wants.
