So much character in the imperfections… I love everything about this ❤

Thank you, that’s how I feel about it too 😊 I haven’t always got the inclination to aim for “perfect” details any more 😉

Beautiful Jackie. I love your spontaneous touches of color. I did mixed media this way and then color books came along and it was like perfectionism became the model. I spent today listening to you and playing with a banded color book pages. Thank you, Carole Seattle usa

Hi Carole, thank you for watching and your lovely comment, I appreciate that a lot ❤️ I just love the convenience and variety that colouring books give us without having to spend time trying to work out a composition and drawing it myself 😉 I think it’s the process of watching the colours blend and using the supplies that I enjoy more than the finished image!

Terrific video and page. I have loved watching the series of three. Very inspiring stuff. The moon and turtle are my favourite parts of your page, taken as a whole it is glorious. It has just the right blend of zen and adventure in the colours and style ( to my eye and mind) to match the line work. Pats to Hamish. Looking forward to seeing what you colour next.

Glad you enjoyed it! I had fun colouring it, but then I’ve yet to meet an RJ page I haven’t enjoyed 😊 thanks for watching!

Good Morning Jackie! This picture is Absolutely Beautiful! I watched all 3 videos and I am very amazed at how this turned out! I was worried about how wet the paper was, but it isn't as wrinkled as I thought! Great Picture, Fantastic Work! Have a Wonderful Day! 💜 Hi Hamish.

Hello Sherry 👋 Hope you are well, thank you for watching! I surprised myself at how much water this paper withstood 🤣 Hamish is doing well, little improvements and learning new things almost everyday ❤️

This was a great series. I want to be brave and put that water on like you, and really play with something new. I really like your outcomes. Thank you for another great tutorial!

Go for it! Grab a book or picture that isn’t a favourite and have a go….you won’t know if you like the feeling if you don’t try ❤️ “it’s only paper” 😊

I always learn and am inspired by you! Paper makes such a difference and that alone is a learning experience

That’s lovely to hear - and yes! Paper is pretty much where it all begins and determines your outcomes. With books we can’t choose the paper, so it is good to learn a few techniques where we can pick and choose what suits that particular book the best 😉 thanks for watching!

I really enjoyed the videos for this page, as I love this book. (It's on my wishlist, hoping to get it for my birthday next month). Your technique is just beautiful, your pages look so fun and very whimsical. I really like the washed, soft look you get on your backgrounds. I've been playing with my supertips as watercolor for a bit now (even before I found your channel). I'm not quite getting that washed, blended look with mine yet but it's fun to practice. Ive learned a lot watching your videos. 😊

I’m an August baby too, so happy birthday! It’s a cute book, but then you might have guessed I love all RJ Hampson books 😉 with regard to washy effects, are you wetting the paper first and then “dropping” the colour into the damp areas? That makes a big difference for washy looks. Keep experimenting, it does take a bit of practising and a fair bit of water ❤️ have fun, Jackie

@@spare_room_studio Yay, another August baby! Feels like there are so few of us, lol. Mine is the 19th. Happy Birthday to you! I love his books too, they are so unique. No, I haven't tried that as I worry I will ruin the paper, but I am definitely going to try and play around with that technique more. Thank you for the tip, I appreciate your response! 😊

Not sure if they have them in Australia.. but Crayola does have a line of softer pencils. They are black barrelled and they have changed names a couple of times so I'm not certain if that is a regional thing. Here in the US they are called Blend and Shade. There are only 50 of them, but their nice and soft. You do have to sharpen them with a rotary for best results. Just FYI in case you want to give them a try. I used to own them before I got rid of all my non-open stock products and enjoyed using them.

I don’t think I have seen them….at this point I really don’t need any more pencils (or markers 😄) but will keep them in mind 👍
