Star Citizen 3.18 PTU - Can The Talon Be a Good Ambush Fighter?

I was testing the same thing last night with a shrike (on the PU). Popped the S2 Mass Driver on it because the alpha is good. When everything worked it was great! First VHRT took 3 missiles and a few shots. The 2nd VHRT ate 20 missiles and the rest of the ammo.

The new the 50% absorb on ballistic kinda makes them back to 3.17. Now, if you run a mix of laser and ballistic, that's really nice. To fight black outs and red out, input the opposite direction for a quick second. Or roll you ship over so the inertia changes. Just depends on which direction you're going, etc

the current ballistic math is 70% of ballistics go through shields, and physical resistance (aka armor but not really) takes off another 50-58%. so revenants at worst will do 48.16 per round, against a standard ship resistance that then drops to 24.08, and 30.96 when shields go below 50%... so you can never get more than half the potential damage out of your ballistic weapon in the current 3.18 build. Look at how much ammo you burned to kill an Aurora - that's 2 S4 weapons with good accuracy. The addition of the 50% across the board armor value basically nerfed ballistics into uselessness. Also - turn on your signature numbers. Talon has a 30% reduction modifier, it's actually pretty stealthy.

Yeah after last night I really started noticing it. Like I had to reload twice after fighting wolf for only a few minutes. I think im be switching my builds back to lasers and that's unfortunate because I was really excited about ballistics possibly being awesome

Is this a general sort of modifier for all stealth craft? Like does the Eclipse or that stealth fighter also get it?

@@inawrocki207 It's not across the board, but yes, Eclipse gets 30%, saber and saber raven get 20%. They're listed in Erkul if you want to know for other ships. The current problem is that when they rebalanced components they set all components for the same signature outputs, so there's no way to get really stealthy like we used to be able to.

I know Olli refers to this game as the screenshot simulator, he's not wrong. But, after your first fight as you were flying away in silhouette with the asteroid belt behind you, that looked awesome. I could also see that all of the training you've done over the past few months with the guys has really helped you in PVP.

It's funny all the VLRT's are in an eclipse, usually with another as escort. In the hands of a player, the Eclipse is one of the most fearful weapons in the game. My friend let me fly his for a few hours and I'm obsessed. Jump in, go dark, float up to 3km, one tap with a massive torpedo, get out before anything even knows what happened. It never got old, lol.

I'm definitely noob af in PVP but I do love the Talon. I like to open up with 4 Dominator 2 missiles since I swear EM are the only missiles I actually hit anyone with. Size 1 means you have 8 missles and can't "lob" them all ion that first volley and size 3 missiles take ages to lock anything. I run the AD4B because of the increased ammo. Yes the bullet speed means your pip will be about twice as far away from the ship (lead) or you will be shooting about twice as far ahead of the ship (lag) but I guess I have gotten used to that from daily driving an Inferno.

All that to say I really love your idea of ambush fighting. I have been calling it "hit and run" tactics because I know if I stick around for a fight I'm going to get owned by better pilots lol.

I know this is an older video, but do you know why the missiles sometimes dont get a green lock when youre well within the missiles range? This happens to me a lot.

I never understood the appeal of ballistics in the first place. I don't care how good a player is or how good ballistics are supposed to be, the chance of running out of ammo is never worth it. I always swap any ballistics with either laser cannons or laser repeaters, except for ships that can't swap them out like the Merlin's main gun, but that's a different story.

On certain ships I think they are good for ambush fighting, or fighting in a swarm to overwhelm an opponent and take them out as quickly as possible. For a drawn out dogfight, lasers are the way to go

For PvP, the chance to one-shot your enemy with one very big burst is tempting. And hey, if it doesn't work, either flee or ram 'im.
