They did change the name. In an SCL, a few months ago, they revealed it's now called StarSim. Jared made a big deal about getting used to the name change.

They did this in Elite, there was a background simulation the npcs in the game were part of that. Everyone complained that there was nothing to do in Elite. If you stayed in one area you could drive the simulation in any direction you choose by supporting one faction over another. I found thst the game play loops hooked into the background simulation and was truly fun to manipulate. I hope they can do this in star citizen as it expands into other systems the game wi) change dramatically and I can't wait.

I think quantum, quasar and virtual AI (or StarSim) are in very good hands with Tony Zurovec. He is super sharp with this stuff and has a firm understanding about how it will work and I have no doubt it will be one of the better systems in the game out of the gate and moving forward!

The Quanta thingy sounds as something i would implement if i had to achieve something similar, to make the world more alive and also not consume an ridicilous amount of prosessing power from the servers. For the Exporing Quanta i would simply use Ray-Marching to detemrine good approximation of locations where the exporation Quanta would visit and try to explore, where the origin of the cricle for the ray-marching would be the mother-ship or the place here the exploring quanta would then start exporing from. For an example if we would have used something like an movement/vector based exploring with non-deterministic behavious where the rays could point anywhere the complexity would instantly start to look like if you were to ray-trace the whole star system :') The resources and how the Quantas affect the player experience could be used as an simply negation before spawing the loot pool. For an example lets say for the current area of minerals the Quanta had mined around 30% of the total resources from that specific resource point, then when an player approaches the same place and the server needs to start to generate the loot pool it could simply just remove 30% from the maximum amount of total resources or from an specific type of recourses, this could be marked with flags in the code to tell the process later on what were the resources of interest and how much was it removed, of course the resources will generate by time so it needs to also have an time-stamp to also then remove from the 30% by the amount by the resource generation multiplier or whatever they use to detemrine that. I'd say in total this Quanta thing sounds really promising and i can't wait to see it work/fail XD

The interesting thing about Quanta is that this could be built out in parallel to the actual game and run for a good long while, unconnected, to see how the theories implemented playout. It wouldn't show you how players are effected or affect the Quanta process, but you could at least test its feasibility, without putting players and the game through the trauma of a failed implementation.

I really hope it doesn't see that you are in the middle of nowhere, far far away from anything, mining, so it spawns pirates on your location where in any real situation, pirates would have no reason to be. To far for any light or medium fighter to reach, let alone, stumbling on your location in the middle of the vast void.

If 90% of the universe is quanta then the players can have no impact, not unless the players can interact with the quanta which you said they can't. Everything you do will be a drop in the ocean. I initially thought it was 90% to prevent the players from having enough impact to break the system, but if they can't even impact that 90% then they have no impact whatsoever. If we discover robertium in a sector where there is none my Org and I can't go and claim control over the moon it's found on and monopolize the supply because some invisible wraiths will just slip past and sell it off anyway. Yeah, they're gonna change this.

So. Players are going to immediately figure out the rules work, then they will exploit the system. Because the Devs cannot out code the player base.

Technically correct. I guess if you had a large dataset gathered by players on prices and resource locations (possibly gathered by large orgs or alliances) you could create a heat map and figure out where quants are active and exploit it. But at that point the discussion is whether that is an exploit or a meta game strategy
