Pro Tip: Decouple at max boost to maintain the higher velocity for longer than your boost energy will permit. You can turn to face your enemy, spool up your QD and calibrate on a marker while still coasting away from the enemy. This makes escaping a determined attacker relatively easy ;)

FYI personal hangars, instanced hangars and freight elevators are not in the 3.23 patch but will be in an interim patch sometime after Invictus.

The new map system is the most underrated feature. Seamlessly going from your ship map, to a station map, to a system map is exactly what a game of this scale needs specially one that has no loading screens. The ship maps look amazing and they are key for a game that supports ship interiors. And PS, maybe you want to check the patch notes and play the patch a bit more because features like instanced hangars were pushed to a later date.

I like the update literally separating the eyes from the neck movement with the eye tracking. It's much more natural. I'm pretty sure I used your link for my 4c back in the day and your guide was great.

Interesting to see what is happening with SC from time to time. However, I won't even consider it until it is out in full. I'm more likely to play SQ42 whenever that fully releases.

SQ42 should release in 2025 or 2026. They said it is feature complete and they are doing bug fixing and polishing now.

Longtime SC backer (wow, it's been in dev long enough that I can actually say that now) and fully understandable and a good choice. Hell, if you just want a good singleplayer game, SQ42 is coming out in the next year and looks promising

My memory might be a bit fuzzy at this point, I seem to recall CIG saying SQ42 was going to be split into chapters. I remember them making a big deal out of the big name actors they had in for the initial recording sessions. I don't recall anything after that. Do the characters provided by Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, etc... not survive in the story for long enough to have more recording sessions with them? I would have figured that with all the changes over the years the SQ42 story would have undergone some rewrites, in parts at least. The PU no longer interests me. Too much of a time sink time and ship buy-in. I'll likely wait to see what the reviews say about SQ42 before giving it a go. In the meantime, since the Kickstarters for SC and Elite Dangerous, there are multiple great space games that have come out.

I was wondering why my Tobii settings were reset in Star Citizen while also feeling a lot more natural at the same time, but this makes sense and makes a big difference! I just wanted to say that I wear glasses too and even with a blue light filter in them I've had zero issues with the eye tracker, no matter the lighting situation. Nowadays I can't even play the game without it and switching to another game after a few sessions is almost always a letdown when they don't support it

What you are talking about is head tracking but it works by setting an curve up so you dont move your head much

It sounds unintuitive but it's not when you try it. Say you have your FOV set to 90° but you want to see an enemy to the side of your ship. That's only 45° your character's head needs to turn to bring that into the edge of their view. You can configure the ratio of your IRL head orientation to you character (mine is 1.5) - i.e. I only need to turn my real head 30° to bring that enemy into vision. That's the head tracking (which optionally works in tandem with eye tracking like Obsidian displayed in the video). Eye tracking can be used separately for target acquisition, e.g. look at a target and push a button to lock that target.

Kind of, except the other guy can be in scm mode while you're in nav thus blasting you down before you can react because you don't get shields. And as OA said, it can lock you into PvP because your options are basically fight or drop your defence to try and run

I’ve bought in at the Aurora starter pack, a few years back. Couldn’t even get to another location with my PC then. I’ll try again, when they declare a not alpha, non-beta, released game. That is, if I have a system that can run whatever that game is with whatever new and improved requirements it has.

If only The Game wasnt so horrendously broken.... they do have a Test Server for Their Testing but in the End we all are still testing on the live server. The amount of bugs this patch brought (back in some cases) is just unacceptable.

I recall a very VR enthusiastic dev (Silvan-CIG I think it was) saying about a year or more ago that they needed to get Vulkan fully integrated first, and I believe they are pretty much there. Just need to get the multithreading in and then it'll be any year now I swear.

the game swings wildly between updates in terms of performance, one month my 3080ti pulls 80+ fps with no issue, and the next month I try the game out and it's like a slideshow at 25fps, regardless of how much I tweak it. they seriously need to focus on optimization and end user experience consistency between updates before VR is even considered as a feature.

game will go from running at 90+ fps on a 3080ti in one update, and i'll come back a month later to find it runs like a slideshow don't bother waiting because even when it IS implemented, it'll take as long as every other feature has to reach a playable state

I love my Tobii 4c, I think it has all the benefits of a VR headset without any of the downsides. Though not quite as immersive, it is the perfect compromise.

13 years for the most complicated game of all time is actually not that long. Games like GTA 6 first entered development in 2014. That's 2 years after SC. Big complicated games take a long time and no other game even compares to SC in scope.

Squadron 42, though in SC universe, has the biggest ships in the game (not yet in SC), new solar systems, and a fully mocaped, voice acted scripted story with realism that most games haven't been able to achieve... at least, according to what they showed us so far.

A correction Obsidian: Personal Hangars, Cargo Elevators and Item Bank are delayed to a Point Patch, as these things DIRECTLY affect and impact certain systems of the game, and they need further work. What IS new for 3.23.0 is Master Modes, the new Star Map, the New Mobi Glass implementation, Vulkan API integration (ongoing work on that 'feature') Replication Layer and Server Error Correction, the new creatures and several new features and modes for Arena Commander and lastly, the new Character Creator.

you know, if there is something that Elite nailed is the controls. everything is intuitive and use very little buttons, while letting you access information and more controls by looking to the sides. it will be hard to get use to SC control scheme.

@@GordonSeal you can map everything into a controler, since everything else you can access by looking to panels to the side. it's the gameplay that is not intuitive, but when you know what you are doing, the controls are very simple.

​@@williammullinax6130 It doesn't even have real space physics like Elite. Half the things people rag on about SC is absolute bullshit that doesn't reflect reality. But the flight model? It fucking sucks. Decoupled mode doesn't even work for the 3 rotational axis. They still normalize to zero without any input. If there was one thing Elite does better than everyone its having the most realistic flight model. Yes. FA On existence makes perfect sense. You would never allow civilians to fly anything with both 6DOF and simulation air resistance humans find intuitive. Same with having speed limits and auto dropping you from frameshift if you get too close to something. In fact the FSD only having 4 axis also makes sense as bending space time is the ONLY method of FTL travel. You aren't actually moving. So it newtons laws of moving objects don't apply. I have no gripes with the airplans in space part of the flight model. No gripes with maximum speed limits outside of FTL. Its absolutely the default for ANY realistic civilian owned space ship. But, you would ALSO for the exact same safety reasons require manual overrides for the artificial friction. What if it malfunctions? What if it's malfunction allows you to cross the 3km speed limit sending you hurtling into a planet at 30km/s killing everyone on it. It doesn't make sense not to have. We learned that lesson with E-brakes and automatic engines already. You need to be able to enable manual control even if speed limits are already in place. The game needs the true FA-OFF experience Elite has. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. So both from a physics and societal POV. SC's flight model doesn't make sense. They aren't space ships, nor do they reflect the limitations society would impose upon them. And most importantly. As someone who want to fly a SPACE SHIP. They don't control like one! Its not fun. Outer Wilds can do it with everything in the SAME physics layer. This game has zero excuses.

@@Kanthannic well.. actual d/l speed that I see on steam stuff is around 1.0-1.4 mb/sec it may spike to 6 but usually steady at 1.5mb/sec. I have talked to my provider that 8mb should be 8mb but.. "if the speed test says it 8mb.. then you got what is offered" ya.. ACUAL speeds may differ

Getting roughly 130-160fps in flight on planets and in space. around 50-80fps in cities. 7800x3D/4090 jobbie. This is in 4K with the beta Vulkan renderer, all settings to high and dlss quality. It's playable. But there's still certain bugs that have been there for years. There's still more rough than there is smooth.

Can't say I had the same experience with the tobi. I too wear glasses and it was almost impossible to get it to calibrate while wearing my glasses. Once I did it seemed like something was off when looking around. I ended up giving it away and that person loves it and has no issues so I will assume it was on my part it was a negative experience.

Did you use it in a low light environment? My Tobii barely works in too much direct light, but it's great in the dark or with the blinds closed.

Tried playing this game with an 11 year old computer, it was a shite experience. Tried playing it with my new i5-13k with a 3060 12GB... and it still runs like Shite.

You need to set your GPU to max performance, instead of max quality. Try that. Triple Buffering also has big impact on FPS. In task manage give SC a high priority.

Not sure if they fixed the issue, but I had also a lot of issues with the "efficiency cores" of my CPU and had to deactivate them. Otherwise the game had permanent hickups. But yeah the game is still not finally optimized. Also a 3060 is still not a high end graphics card. Not even much faster than a mid-tier 1070 TI in 2016 so wonder what to expect here.

Correction for you. Instanced hangars are NOT in 3.23. That was announced weeks ago to be part of 3.23.x with no date. Was this just a tobii ad or an attempt to cover 3.23? because you mentioned like 1 feature out of probably the biggest patch CIG has ever delivered...hopefully you cover what's in the actual patch someday.

The new changes are utterly brilliant, from the water effects to the EVA mechanics, starmap, Master Modes and graphical improves too. Sure, there are lots of improvement needed, but that's why we're here, to test it. Having Star Citizen along side my other games all tis time has been amazing. I play and enjoy lots of 'complete' games, but living with this game throughout it's long development has been so interesting and insightful. And also, it often feels like this forever-unfinished game offers so much more than many titles that are offically released and turn up broken, lol. But there is notihng out there that offer this level of detail and immersion, when SC works well, it literally has no competitors.

How long have you been a backer? I see no joy, after 12 years, of encountering the same critically unstable game patch after patch. There is always a promised technology that will come save performance. There is always an upcoming deadline for a release or an alpha that never actually comes. How can I have anything but disdain, when Roberts himself chose to stand up on stage in front of his most zealous supporters and tell all of them they'd have a playable SQ42 alpha in 2018? It's been six years. He just recently started making another promise about an upcoming SQ42 release. I have nothing but contempt for him at this point.

I love the development, I dot play it like it's complete, expecting it to be complete, because that's not what it is currently. But following it as I have, I can also see where it's going and it's very exciting, it's gonna be amazing.

Master modes has been a disaster. It might feel easier to get kills at first, but when you realize you can't escape being jumped by more than one ship, and it's now impossible to out dogfight interceptors because they have a blanket speed advantage, it made all the problems in the flight model even worse. The only good changes are every weapon can be gimballed and cone fire instead of the old fixed assist. I really hope they listen to the better pilots and tune a lot differently.

Really I think the only thing still holding SC back from a non-maddening experience is server meshing, which is due around the end of this year. The bad server tick rate is what contributes to so much frustration. But even without server meshing in yet, the effect from so many of the devs finishing their work on SQ42 and moving back to SC has been very obvious. New features have been going in at a blistering rate. Granted, most are obviously Tier ZERO and still need much balancing and polish, but the acceleration in development this year has been unmistakable.

Static meshing will come in before end of summer as Pyro needs it and they plan to release Pyro by the end of summer. CR said in a recent interview that the first iteration of dynamic meshing is possible by the end of this year.

Server meshing is not going to fix the countless bugs, the stupid AI, the broken physics system or their bad design decisions, like making bottles physics based objects.

It's insane it took this long to update that terrible map system. That's genuinely not rocket science. But I'm glad its finally there. The interaction menu was also long overdue, but it actually feels like a fairly playable game now. Never thought I'd see the day

Because games have to render twice to do VR. Games like ED can because its a game built to run on consoles from 2012 or DCS can because the game does not have to render many assets at one time. SC would need a constant 120fps to render in VR at 60 fps. You can play SC in VR but it takes some tweaking and there are YT video's and twitch streamers who play it in VR.

Are we just going to ignore that 3.23 features are all well and good, but the game is just fundamentally unplayable? Introduction of Master Modes, Mobi updates, adding wildlife, new Star Map, distribution centres, updated scope optics, and all the rest counts for absolutely nothing when the game is so unstable. Ongoing server performance issues result in inventory frequently not working, doors not opening, guns not firing, enemies warping around bunkers, Contracts not working, and 100 other things that simply DO NOT WORK. When it's impossible to even reload your weapon, use a Med Pen, remove your helmet or any other actions are constantly being impeded by server issues, then all the new features mean absolutely nothing at all. SC had been this way for years. We get excited about new features, yet the game just doesn't work. Controller binds are broken, the keymap has been incorrect for several patches, the list just goes on and on and on. I really do want to love Star Citizen, but EVERY SINGLE TIME the latest and greatest patch 100% disappoints with new broken stuff, and older bugs/issues never being fixed.

@@WesBrook77 don't listen to him. it should be said that while combat is now more difficult, mission payouts have been reduced and are basically worthless considering the risk of either death or crash. It's a great game to fly around but it won't go anywhere unless you buy/rent one of the ships that can actually make you cash

@@Maddock_ Did seem like a rather redundant comment, given one of the issues I specifically mentioned remains objectively incorrect, being the key-binds: just open the menu and check the key-bind graphic, it's not difficult. Controller functionality likewise, either support controllers, or do not. Just an example of how SC's progress is seemingly forever compromised.

@@Maddock_ Combat missions offer a side income by looting cargo, guns and modules from the ships that you kill to then sell. Of course you'll need a ship with some cargospace to do that effectively, so most of the base Starters can't really do that. You'd need either at least a Pisces, Avenger Titan or Nomad.

I really hope they actually release a good single player game, because I am very interested in this. I just do not care for any kind of multiplayer. I do not want other people polluting, what I consider to be, an escape from the world, from daily life, and from the never ending whining of other humans.

They only time CIG had a clear vision of what they wanted was when they had John Prichett on staff. Ever since he left they haven't so much been changing the game as floundering with out a clue. And ya, its beautiful but the appeal of eye candy dies quickly if a game isn't designed according to well formed ideas and if you're at all intelligent.

Don't worry about MM making things too easy. You can easily test if that is true by challenging even an average player to combat, as a newcomer. You can find out the right way if those complaints are legitimate.

Chris Roberts and CIG have decided to make a game that appeals to the masses instead of the dedicated backers that have funding this dream from the beginning. the flight model is not the only change im afraid. Bed logging, how one logs on and off the game, has also changed, as well as medical beds and their ability to respawn players. My fear is this game becomes to diluted and generic and just becomes another splash in the in the space genre pool.

Master Modes is what happens when the devs make a huge change internally and don't involve the community in early development. Yes they released it to test but it doesn't seem like they want to change it too much from where it is.

@@vicviper319 Yogi showed up in av1s stream to talk master modes and you claim they did not involve the community. Do you hear yourself? He's been all over the community and spectrum, probably more than anyone in star citizen's feature teams. They fact they've been working on something for a long time doesn't mean they never involved anymore. They have over 100 ships to tune and squadron 42 was their priority. Off course everything we see now has been in the works for years. Welcome to literally all features in star citizen.

Further Note: 3.23.1 Invictus Patch is currently in Open PTU, and will drop later this week for Live PU in time for Invictus (Fleet Week) which is now TWO weeks long and Defense Con along with the now accompanying Free Fly (for people interested in Star Citizen to try out the game without the need to buy a Ship Pledge) and the usual Ship Sale Event.

Mmmm... I was close to buying an Oculus Rift for ED. When Meta bought them, i backed off big time. Tobii eye tracker/Robert Space Industries, could not even view the site without accepting literally whatever. Tobii's site on its own fine, RSI interaction a bit stiff. Cokkie wise. I'm not ready to sign up to a game that is not officially released. So get the game launched and I'll consider it. Obsidian Ant good coverage.

Two presses of a button to go from 1400 mps (NAV) to 200 (SCM) and then from 200 (SCM) to 50 (gear down) in less than two seconds. It´s just stupid. After 12 years!! I don´t care about anything else in 3.23 because of how bad Master Modes are.

That's all well and good, but I kinda lost hope for SC after they announced hygiene mechanics. Unless something is done against the ingame chores and the tedium, i'm out. Like needing 6 minutes to reach you ship and then fly another 10 Minutes to the mission destination, where you spend 2 minutes in combat, is ridiculous. Add to that hunger and thirst mechanics and the ratio of chores to gameplay is easily close to 10:1.

Unfortunately it seems that CIG is going to increase tedium even more. Loading Cargo will then be done manually with a tractor beam (crate by crate). And they plan to remove global inventory and replace it with Item Banks (terminals). A sad thing.

300m/s top speed for combat? Bruh. If I could do combat in Elite: Dangerous with an Imperial Courier rigged for 1000+ m/s boost speed, your brand spankin' new, supposedly superior game should be able to handle that too. 300 is barely supersonic, it's absolutely NOTHING in space combat. Atmospheric, I'd understand, but in a vacuum? "To lower the skill ceiling" Well... nothing new, SC devs taking their players for absolute mumbling idiots again. Well, considering how much money they got out of them already, it's not even completely ungrounded.

It has more to do with PvP fun then "reality". ED only ever has to account for 32 player max P2P servers while SC has to account for 125 and eventually way more. Besides the fact that a single ship in SC has more assets running than the entirety of ED. Hit registration at super high speeds in a pvp game is technically a nightmare, whether the server tick rate is 5 or 120. SC player have in the past had crazy high speed combat....and it sucked and was not fun. If your really worried about space combat in the future being "realistic" to newtonain physics then every fight would occor from 1000km away and you will never even see your target up close....ever. I have over 2k hours in ED [and love the game] but even at lower speeds the skill ceiling for SC is EONS higher than ED. It's not even close how much more seat time it takes to be a good pilot in SC compared to ED.

@@Podokodo23 I don't necessarily want it to be more realistic. I do want it to be fast. At least future fast. If I want to dogfight within those speed limits, I'll go play War Thunder. The number of assets running, in this case, doesn't help. In fact, it's part of the problem. All those needless cosmetics that you won't see 99% of your game time. Starfield ran into the same flawed design choice, where every pen in town was a finely detailed HD textured, physics sensitive 3D object, and managed to hog down even the strongest CPU/GPU combo in existence. If SC can ever handle 125 players per instance, without crashing, lagging or artifacts, I'll retract all my previous statements and bow down to Chris Roberts' greatness.

Well they tried server meshing recently and performed extremely well with 400 people. They went up to 800 players, but then it became fairly unstable.

I will forever fail to understand the logic behind being excited or even remotely interested in added features to a product that functionally at it's core is still broken in so many ways? Fix issues that have been plaguing this game since the early days first and then I might consider coming back to see what the new content is. If you like it the way it is, good for you but I'll take a pass, no thanks!

Because if you do it your way, you have to refactor things a LOT more and the game would have taken quite literally, 10x longer to develop. In fact they did this to a degree, and its why we are still here 12 years later. There are VERY, VERY, good reasons not a SINGLE software development model from waterfall, to devops, to scrum does what you describe.

After playing the update, I can tell you it's worse than before, not better. Sure there are a few "improvements", but the performance is just as bad, the bugs are even worse, they totally messed up the UI (e.g. the screen littered with markers so you can't see your target anymore), the new flight model is awful and everyone hates master mode, ... And the economy is being nerfed excessively, to "incentivize" people to dish out a few hundred dollars for the good ships.

Chris Roberts doesn't know ANYTHING about dogfighting or pvp or space flight. He is perpetually stuck wanting to recreate the WWII-inspired cinematic dogfights of the first Star Wars movies. In truth a real fight between spacecraft would more closely resemble a fight between attack helicopters than airplanes or fighter jets. And Chris would KNOW that, if he actually played full-Newtonian space combat games, instead of pretending to be a bigshot movie director.

Well done Captain Obvious. A game needs to be fun though. You obviously haven't even stopped to think about what realistic space combat would be like in a video game. Or what it would entail development wise. Firing a missile at a blip on your radar doesn't sound very fun at all. And besides I don't remember Star Citizen's premise ever being realistic, with it's lizard people and FTL travel. And I don't know any good games that have realistic space combat. What games are you referring to?

Oh and games like Hunternet Starfighter exist on one end of the spectrum, and Nebulous Fleet Command on the other, both made by people who are much more respectful and passionate about space combat than Roberts is. To say nothing of the fact HE SOLD THE GAME on the premise of its' fidelity, one of the original selling points back in the Kickstarter campaign that got me to buy the game was his emphasis on the fact every ship would have realistically placed thrusters doing their job fully-newtonian. One of his many promises he has since backtracked or straight up abandoned during the long years of development.
