I'm all for questioning monetization practices and trying to keep companies honest. But this title is a bit misleading, in my opinion. MonsterTech is selling the chair, not CIG/Star Citizen. Their entire chair lineup on their USA website is $700-1000. If you were already in the market for an overpriced flight-sim chair from MT, you have the additional option to buy a Star Citizen skinned one now instead of just the generic version. I have zero interest in these chairs personally, but I don't see why there's so much drama about this.

I was just expressing my opinion that the original video title of "Star Citizen is selling a $1,000 Chair" had the potential to mislead ppl who see the title and DONT watch your video, to possibly assume that CIG is putting up some crappy $1k rebranded gaming chair on the RSI merch website or something. Which isn't the case. My guess is CIG just licensed the branding to MTSIM, who probably set the price themselves based on that. In any case, thanks for the content and coverage on Star Citizen. I meant no disrespect or anything o7

Well CIG had not to invest much if any effort into these chairs. It is just fan service mostly done by a third party. These chairs might be worth their cost, who knows. Just imagine if CIG would have gone with low quality stuff and would have to face the backlash. If I were Chris I would have chosen a quality manufacturer as well.

It's just a rebranding of a chair that was expensive to begin with. Which it would be being a very niche market product and having low sales volumn. It is what it is. If you don't want/need it then don't buy it. If it was just a regular gaming chair it would be cheaper.

Just buy a really nice Serta with all the bells and whistles like I did, then take it to Korea Town and have them sew logos on it and spice it up with embroidery, to note they even double stitch which is better than any quality you can buy in stores. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 These chairs are CHEAPLY made!

These are sim chairs though. You can't use just any chair for stick mounts which is what MT products are all about. The armrests need to be sturdy enough, shaped certain ways and be in certain positions and the back of the seat needs an unusual shape so you can move your elbows back far enough to move the sticks freely. I don't agree with chair prices in general, cheap ones just fall apart, but unfortunately specialized stuff like this gets extra expensive because it's not mainstream enough to make up for production costs with numbers sold.

Don't push drama bullshit to get clicks. People are freaking out about the price, but MonsterTech was already selling this chair at $799,$899,$999, and $1,099. Same overpriced chair. These have some themed fabric and an SC logo. Nobody was freaking out over the price when MT debuted them 1-2 years ago. Throw an SC logo on it, and everybody loses their shit. We want to move away from selling ships? Selling customizations, and merchandise is how you do it. You can't pay 1,300+ devs with hugs. If people think it's expensive, fine. Don't buy it. I won't. But don't freak out every time CIG sells something on their store. They just licenses out their logo and put it on the store. MonsterTech dictates the price. I swear, this community needs something to freak out about every week. At least you're being realistic about it.

See, for that price, regardless of who it is for, and or branding should be real materials, not synthetic. I can get a chair that is REAL LEATHER for $200 to $500 USD; you're not buying into the premium category here. If this was a premium-grade product, then why is it made of cheap foam pads and synthetic materials? Just a company pretending to pay its premium while using less to save on production costs. Just like I'm a 3D artist that can sell high-end models for only $20 to $30 with sounds, lights, effects, bones, and animation. The work is already applied to you, so you don't need to edit much to fit into your products. But CIG sells a single ship (3D model) bound by only the game itself. 50x to 300x the price they should be. Making up its own market prices for no reason. Let's say you buy an 890j for $1,000 and I build a tiny ship only worth $10. Well, guess what? Because this is fake 3D space, I can scale my tiny ship up to the size of an 890j and pretend it has the same level of quality because, after all, it's the same size, right? If SIZE in a 3d space is made up then how come it cost more? If you have a 22" monitor and I have a 55" tv screen is my 890J bigger than you're? So should my 890j cost more because its on a bigger screen? No its just made up prices to fill in the pretend that its high end product. MT is using CIG branding and in return CIG will get a cut of sales. The higher price is to provide CIG with its cut. without changing out its synthetic materials. All gain to provide pure profits and to sell a product. In a few years if they stop making them they will become RARE!!! and thus the prices for them will be double or triple.

Compare an office chair with pure leather vs a gaming chair. They're cheaply made and not made to sit in for hours on end. But, A office chair is made to last. As well longer sitting hours.

I understand that the chair is not a CIG product but I just wish that CIG would FOCUS THEIR TIME ON THE GAME!!!! The amount of money for life sized helmets and other wastes of REAL money that was paid for the filming sets I see SHOULD HAVE BEEN spent on DEVELOPING THE DAMN GAME!!!! The money was spent with the intention that the money was going to GAME development NOT film set development.
