On one hand, I love the new MFDs. On the other hand, I've been around long enough to see every version of the MFDs publicly available and I have so much old information about previous versions stuck in my head that I doubt I'll be able to straighten this out for years.

I feel like I'm going to be spending a lot more time looking down at MFDs than I am looking at what's in front of me. I hope all of these settings have keybindings, focus-clicking while in combat (or even mining) seems like a pain point.

KeyBindings --> Flight - Power FYI, You can use F5, F6, F7, & F8 to increase or decrease power to weaps, shields, and engines without needing to use the F-key and mouse to control pips. Which means you can also control them with a joystick hat.

I love the new MFDs but do with there was an option for a HUD pop up for the ammo counter when in guns mode.

Honestly I'm very happy we finally get the "standard" power management that every game since X-Wing uses. There is a reason everyone uses it. I'm definitely struggling to adapt to the change, and no one likes change, so I'm trying real hard not to instantly hate the changes, but some oddities I've noticed: 1. Turning off weapon power doesn't appear to actually stow weapons on ships that have that feature, and I can't find anywhere to turn on and off individual weapons 2. At least on Crusader ships, I find the speed/velocity indicator (the thing you change with mouse wheel) to be incredibly busy and hard to understand at a glance compared to the old one. 3. Why don't they make everything clickable? Like why can't I just click on the GSAF icon to toggle it? 4. How do you scan something you can't actually target?

I have no issues with the new MFD but the new "HUD" is unacceptable. its not even a HUD any more you have to look down to view it. the idea of a HUD is to overlay critical information directly in your line of sight. Coming from someone who flies a plane with a HUD for a living.
@Raazik3 ай бұрын
HUD is in the process of being finalized. Pilot helmets (I believe in the first alpha iteration - all helmets) will have two screens, top left and top right, on which you can display the same menus as on the ship's MFD.
@JohnVanderbeck3 ай бұрын
Right, it isn't a HUD but have they said it was? They call it a "cast" in game.
@Raazik3 ай бұрын
@@JohnVanderbeck Perhaps they said so because the term HUD has long since become broader than its original meaning. Now it is not only the helmet visor interface, but also what is called in Russian the Indicator of Windshield ("ILS" - "indikator lobovovo stekla") - the cockpit HUD.
@Aethid3 ай бұрын
These "casts" are really just an extension of the MFDs. There is supposed to also be a HUD projected as part of your helmet, which it seems they are still working on.

While we have to hold F and use the mouse, this is a lot more hard work. In the future if we can use hand tracking in VR to reach out and touch these things, or set up our phones or tablets to link to the PC and present the MFDs on a secondary screen this will be amazing. I see us moving toward a vision...

While these look a lot cleaner, they also seem quite a bit fiddlier. I'm certainly not a fan of your FUEL being hidden away to only be in certain sub-modes, as well as critical things like your speed/altimeter not being front and center. It also looks like they did away with the thrust vector indicator (the little circular display next to your g-force that visually shows what direction you're thrusting in). One question I have: The power management is for managing power "blocks", with the numbers shown in the 15-20 range. How does this work with all the various thrusters a ship can have? Currently, you can power down each maneuvering thruster individually, which helps if you take damage and need to stabilize yourself by selectively shutting down thrusters that are causing you to spin out. This new system looks like it's all-or-nothing on "engines" which means we'd be losing the fine control we've already got.
@Spelljammer13 ай бұрын
those are to the letter my concerns too.
@GorBane3 ай бұрын
I didn't think about the individual thrusters, but you're right. Hopefully that's something you can do with the engineering screen where you can see a map of your ship and see the individual components, hopefully including the thrusters, engines, etc.

Thank you for walking us through this! Excellent indeed. Quick question for anyone smart on this new system: A given powerplant generates a set amount of pips or segments. It appears to be 20 generated from a size two PP of the best grade. If my ship has two powerplants installed do the segments or pips stack? Like is there now 40 assignable power segments? Thanks.

I'm hoping for NAV and SCM sub-modes to have dedicated keybinds which don't require manually switching to SCM/NAV before switching to the desired sub-mode. I want to keybind to my throttle SCM\Missiles or NAV\Flight so regardless of which MM I'm in, I'll transition to the appropriate one directly in the sub-mode I want. The MFD reworks themselves though, persistence is going to be the most welcome part of it and being able to save/load custom presents are going to be welcomed additions to the ship setups.

Thank you for going over this, but I still think they are garbage. 1) they are solid. They took away the transparent ones, so now they all block your view. 2) The hallo on the left and right, overlap with certain MFDs and block your view (Connie, cutlass, Corsair) 3) The hallow on the left is half covered by the GLOBAL chat. 4) Corsair has no boost meter, that is easy to see. they took out all the HUDs that were helpful. 5) EVERY MFD setup is different, even on the same manufacturer, making it a pain to switch ships and know where things are. 6) When you hit SCAN V, several of the MFDs automatically switch. 7) The MFD controls at the bottom of each MFD are right next to Physical Switches, and SUPER easy to Shut your power off, when you want to just change screens. 8) The Power, Engine, Shields, should have an indicator that there is at least SOME power going to them, in a HUD. 9) in most ships the bottom MFDs are push so close to the pilot, you only see 2/3 of the screen, unless you press Z to look down. Not easy in a fight. Replacing HUDs with iPads is a dumb idea. At least give us the option to display things in our HUD, if we want.

I still cant believe we cant fire guns and missiles at the same time.
@yulfine16883 ай бұрын
You can't in most scifi either unless its a turret or something speical or a unqiue area to which larger ships will have such functions if they have zones for that, in real life as well you have to switch modes to fire missiles or guns, I do believe the 35 allows you to do both, the same goes for the f22, for something like the f16s and f15s and f18s I do not think they can without switching. The same seems to go for the ex models, however those are two seaters the c and d model are single seat and the ex is also single seat if i recall.
@yulfine16883 ай бұрын
but that's because irl you have different loadouts for air to ground or air to air so having set modes for such functions is likely the better alternative or due to restrictions of systems etc.. the 35 is mostly air to ground but does fine in air to air so I guess it doesn't matter there. The 22 is almost entirely air to air with minimal air to ground sorties. Even then there's still some restrictions and little is known about how that actually works since well its mostly classified information.
@Aethid3 ай бұрын
@yulfine1688 The vast majority of modern aircraft still require you switch active weapons to use either guns or missiles. They don't usually have dedicated triggers.
