Star Citizen's Forgotten Starter Ship

The syulen was the most creative ship that CIG had produced in over 2yrs when it came out. It was original, uniquely alien, good value for money, and just an all around quirky ship. I love quirky ships, like the Reliant, the 400i, the Cutlass Black.. ships that you find people openly either love or hate. It’s hard however to recommend this puppy over the Avenger Titan as a pure starter ship for new players in some senses, but it’s a fantastic ship, you’ve reminded me and I think I might grind and pick one up in 3.23 and give it a fly again.

Lovely little ship. Was sold on its vertical Alien vibe. A keeper for me. Changes or fun things I'd like for her: Larger outward windows than those tiny peepholes we have down on the mid-deck. CIG often seems stingy about such windows. Related, I'd like the pilot's seat to be able to rotate forward so that when I'm landed I could look out horizontally on the ship's surroundings. The cargo racks look like they could be a more general purpose hardpoint than mere cargo box tie downs. Weapons, camping gear, sensor modules, tractor beam, etc.

Great cinematics in this video. I've got a Syulen which gets regular use as my small exploration ship, that's not its described role but with such massive QT fuel tanks, small cargo capacity, full living facilities and ability to fight off small/medium threats, its perfect for venturing into dangerous space like Pyro. This should be high on the list of anyone who likes the Cutters (especially Rambler) but wants a ship with some teeth.

I love the Syulen; loading it up with 6 empty inventory crates and filling them at bunkers has been my go-to way of stocking up on gear since that feature was added. Great video!

i adore the Syulen, i don't fly it that much now on account of the f7 and F8 having entered my life, but i have always maintained that if you are ok with how it takes off and lands,, its a surprisingly good all rounder to get into SC with, between the responsiveness and the weapons, it can handle most combat missions a new player would be involved in on the reg, and while it isn't a Nomad, it isn't a cargo slouch either. as it is now it won't carry you all the way to the top but definitely a good ship to start with and a nice one to break out on occasion for low intensity stuff.

I think the Syulen is a great small ship to have in your fleet, it has its quirks, but once you get used to them you will find that this little ship can really help you out in the early game. And even after you have graduated to larger ships, the Syulen makes for a great ship to do things like going around to buy gear and such.

I have about 6, and its a niche little ship, yet its a deth trap and impractical in so many ways, its forgotten because its not good a really anything, and as we know, is just a test bed for the Railen. Must admit watching it flown by a decent pilot, especially performing a fast, precise landing is something to see, very LEM like. But she's cute and a nice plaything

Nice ship, it's unfortunately a bit of a nightmare to land in the dark since you have no idea how high up you are and the ship has no lights pointing down. Hoping the new landing UI will help with that.

I love this ship SO much, but if you lose a wing here the Syulen is unflyable. Other ships can manage some control, but the syulen is just crippled. Besides that, it's my favorite starter ship.

I was thinking this ship would make a great base for a Bounty Hunter variant, like an Alien alternative to the Anvil Hawk. The suit locker on the lower level could be made into a prisoner pod and perhaps some living quarters changed into EMP/QED components.

This is my lux camping ship. It's not really good for much other than getting from A2B in Style. tho i would prever it's default hanger to be a VERTICAL door hanger as default and maybe the future we can have Assisted landing from outside the hanger bay like when a capital ship takes over a smaller fighters command to guide it in to it's landing bay while moving.

Not many people use it because it because its a weird middle step between a cheap starter and something like a cutty. And the other weird middle step, the nomad, is a better starter ship

amazing cinematic shots as usual. This is one alien ship that does not interest me in any way. Just way too much magic floaty bits. But to be extra pedantic, this thing came to game same time as the C1, about 6 months ago in November at IAE.

... Forgotten starter? Its like... The BEST starter, outside of the titan and ONLY because the titan can carry a vehicle without hassle. The Syulen has big shields, massive fuel reserves, humongous hull hp, 3s3 hardpoints, shielded external cargo, living quarters, insane top speed, and the MOST maneuvering thrusters out of all of the "true" starters (23 of the bastards). Its 10$ more expensive than the Titan, and 10$ less expensive then the Nomad. The ONLY issues it has is its unintuitive landing and take off, and that it has such a massive front face... which REALLY doesnt matter, because it has so much hull hp anyways. Also the ship is barely 7 months old. Edit: Its also intended to be THE jack of all trades starter, with a primary focus on starting cargo but also some capability in exploration and combat.

Personally I prefer the nomad. having 24 SCU of storage and an extra shield definitely makes it worth it in my book

@PlatinumParakeet yeah but the cargo is unshielded which means that people can kinda just... yoink your stuff. It's the biggest downside, otherwise it's not a bad starter either. The syulen just does everything else besides cargo better, although the living space on the nomad is absolutely peak.

I'll be honest, I'm just not a fan. I checked it out when it was first available and I just couldn't get along with it. Admittedly soem things may have changed since, but I found the way the camera were mapped, the ship shape is a spacial awareness nightmare and it didn't really bring anything others didn't have, other than the general look. I didn't understand the hype.
