It must be hard to come up with new looking ships these days, especially when they have to observe certain functional requirements and standards for the universe they’re in. Sci-fi is pretty well saturated with cool looking ships so there’s always going to be some cross-pollination. Still, could do worse than look to the Normandy for inspiration, that was a good design too.

Based on the number of tiles on the floor and the cargo hold image, I believe the C1 has its 48 SCU divided in 12 on the ramp section, 36 on the middle section, with a door in between. That would mean the E1 and A1 may have 12 SCU.

This new Crusader ship is my favorite designed ship and finally I can get something that is in the same size as the Cutty and the Freelancer, both of which I don't like the design of. This ship is probably going to be my daily driver when it arives in the PU. Now I want Crusader to create its own version of the Drake Kraken for carrier duties, a Crusader designed Exploration ship the size of the Carrak/Corsair and their own bespoke light fighter (they could just shrink the space frame of the Ion/Inferno and turn it into a light fighter, I like the design hate that it only has a single S7 gun) to compete with the Arrow. When they do that all my ships will be Crusader ships XD

Great video summarising the available information. One suggestion I saw on Reddit was for CIG to create an individual troop drop pod for the A1's bomb racks. As soon as I read this idea all I could think was "Yes please!" But time will tell. Unfortunately I doubt we'll see the drop pod idea but it would be pretty damn amazing and offer some interesting gameplay.

How I see the Sprit-series A1 - fills the Tactical bomber role to go with the A2 Starlifter's Strategic bomber role C1 - works as a competitor for the Cutty and is a strong daily driver option for people that want more than the Titan or Nomad, but aren't really partial to some of the quirks of the Cutty or the Freelancer (the lovable flying tube) E1- off-sets the Pheonix's "Corp boss party boat" and the Cutty Steal's "Space Huey" with an actual airliner set-up I can see any and all of these ships becoming very popular with the community as they're within reasoanble price ranges compared to some of the competition (even more so in the case of the A1 and E1), and they look a little like the SR2 from certain angles, which is a plus for some of us.

Great Review! I understand that the Ship Matrix isn't always up to date or correct, but I couldn't help but notice the following: The Spirit variants have fewer redundant Avionics and/or Systems components; when compared to the Freelancer (Base) and Cutlass Black. Under Propulsion they are missing "Fuel Intakes" and have one less fuel tank than the Freelancer (Base).

In some of the photos- it could pass as a large capital ship. When I first saw them- I thought "Oh here it is! The Crusader explorer ship!!!" but alas, no. I'll have to keep waiting. The Crusader design is epic. My favorite developer for sure. Picked up the A1 to match my A2.

The spirit has the starwars vibe to it tbh, like how the engine exhaust and intakes are rounded and somewhat geometrically organic like the xwing engines while the rest is brutalist utilitarian with sharp geometry and gaps like a star destroyer. It really is a starwars rendition of the Normandy. I love it

I'm very much looking forward to my E1. I do hope that it does end up having a bed in it. I'm still touring with getting a C1 but I've already got several cargo ships that are near that size. We'll see what the Q&A says.

Its not just vtol but the placement of the vtol. The drake cutglass vtol is just ugly and unrealistic. The spirit is my dream ship! Buying all three soon!

I hope it doesn't grow too much. With a single s2 shield, its cross section could really harm its viability in combat. I think comparing it to the Banu Defender is pretty useful in that regard.

Like I always say, every medium sized ship and up should always have at least 2 ways to enter and exit. I just hope it's not like the star runner with all that neck room for there to be an easy access for the pilot to the cockpit but they add nothing.

The Spirit variants look pretty cool but there are a few issues that bother me. 1. Only a single S2 shield when ships of this size should have at least 2xS2 shields. 2. Will there be any escape pods for the crew (and extra escape pods for the VIPs on the E1)? CIG completely forgot about this basic safety feature on the Mercury as well. Crusader isn't Drake! 3. Why must the C1 hand over its defense turret for a tractor-beam when it's mounted in a completely different spot compared to the turret? The Cutlass Black gets both a tractor-beam AND a turret.

The A1 bombs aren't "half the size" of the A2 MOABs. The S5 bomb has more like 1/20th the 'sploading power of the S9 MOAB (but, as all else, TBD).

I’m curious about the dimensions… Concept art makes this thing look huge, but it’s supposedly only a few meters longer than the Cutty. I flat out don’t buy the listed width. All said, probably will grab a C1, think about the E1, and pass on the A1. I made similar comments to our mutual buddy on the Genesis Star-liner and Crusader’s Hercules chassis. Seems like it should be a E2 Variant at this point size and capacity-wise but I suspect existing owners would seriously lose their shit if the were handed a reworked C2 with reworked double-decker “passenger airline” cabin with lots of windows after waiting all these years. They could do a lot worse though… The Hercules “2” family is fantastic! Keep up the great content! We missed you at CitizenCon this year. 🎉

I picked up the E1, because I still have my Starliner concept from way back when. *sigh*. Wait, an E2? I'd be down for upgrading (on the website) my C2 to one of those. Using that logic, does that mean there's going to be an M1 variant of these down the line, to match the M2? Hmm, the missing fourth variant of each, to be released. (Because we all know CIG loves ship sales!) Too many variants though. I'm starting to think modularity won't be so achievable anymore. And enough with my now off-topic text.

The Ship(s) are interesting, but I'm curious how fast they are relative to others. The A1 could become a "META" ship, as speed could outshine the A2's payload/shields. A real world analogy would be the Mosquito, which was one of the most feared planes by the germans in WW2 and was a high priority to copy/enhance (leading to Arados and the like). The C1 would be the one I'd be most interested in, but my fleet is set up to get the biggest bang for buck via old BMM CCUs and so on. If I'd end up with leftovers, they'd likely go to something small that fits inside a BMM hangar, but I wouldn't rule out a C1 entirely.

I was very close to getting a C1 until I ralised that these ships will be comparatively cheap in-game. Gonna be easily less than a Freelancer MAX at 2 million. Also considering I have other ships, it doesn't offer me anything my other ships can't do and I'm not interested in bombing or doing passenger runs. So with that in mind, I WILL get one, but only with in-game credits when available.

Doubt it, Genesis Starliners are older than the Spirit and Hercules. If there's an E2, I'd imagine it'd be using the C2 Hercules body with modification, like how the E1 is a modified C1.

Genesis is roughly the size of the C2. Don't think we'll see a separate E2.

None, that turret is there becuase both the A1 and E1 are mostly going to be Running away and being pursued same as the Freelancers rear turret. The C1 is more of a Blockade runner.

I suspect the Spirit is what the MSR was supposed to be - before CIG smoked something and added the crawlways. One day CIG might even manage a ship release free from a litany of errors and mistakes - one day. I have a C1 with E1 CCU. If it is as good as a Cutlass, it will be a keeper. If not, recycle the cash again.

Not sure about that, but you'll have through the end of November anyway because of the huge IAE Expo ship sale that happens every year where all ships go on sale.

If you happen to have some store credit you could just get a cheap $5-$10 CCU for the one you want just in case the sale ends before you can purchase it outright. That way you at least have a way to obtain it later in November during the big Expo event. 😉 I just bought a $10 Cutlass-to-C1 CCU so that I have it available just in case I prefer the C1 over the Cutlass Black. (I still hope CIG will give this Spirit 2xS2 shields though as just 1 S2 shield is just too little protection imo).

I'm very skeptical that a cyclone will fit, the entrance looks too narrow if they keep it the overall size dimensions they have it listed as. It definitely doesn't help that some of the concept images are off on scale

Are you sure the C1 also has the turret ? I thought the turret was replaced with tractor beam mount in C1.

c1 has a tractor beam insted of a turret on the roof. only E1 and A1 has turret

Yeah, for some reason CIG removed the defense turret on the C1 and instead it has a tractorbeam. What's wierd though is that the tractorbeam is located nowhere near the turret's mounting point. Meanwhile the Cutlass Black will get a tractorbeam without having to sacrifice a turret as CIG will just give it an extra hardpoint (in the same location as the Cutlass Steal variant has its extra rear turret).

@@makimera Makes you wonder if the Spirit's turret uses the same gimmick as they used on the Scorpius where it rides along rails. In one image we can see that the tractorbeam of the C1 is all the way at the rear overlooking the cargohold; while the turret on the other variants sit much further forward and nowhere near that area where the C1 has a tractorbeam. What is it with CIG wanting to make non-combat ships completely defenseless? It already has just 1 S2 shield when a ship this size should have at least 2 S2 imo.

@@DanakarEndeel Ye i have a feeling the turret is on rails. like the scorpius. there is 2 diffrent pictures with the tractor beam, beeing in 2 diffrent locations, at the back and on the top. And if one tries to "understand" the pictures, the two fins at the back. is kinda in the way for the turret to fire backwards properly. But who knows what cig has planned

Gritty, militaristic, pure “get shit done”. I call mine “Bodybags” for the black plastic liner they used on the interior. Not a ship to save the galaxy, but a menace to save one’s A from. Beautiful in its own way.

Good in atmosphere control, which as none of these are fighters, should be useful for ground assault or making many ground-to-orbit transits
