I want to add a few tips and corrections. First and most important, a ship with EMP is not necessary. Once there is no target left for the NPC ship, it goes stationary. To exploit this, you want to eva out and let your ship get destoyed. Few ways of doing this. Selfdestuct or let the NPC's gun down your ship. Selfdestruct generaly only works if you have an ejector seat, as without one it takes too long with most ships to get out and far enough away to be outside of the blast radius. To get the NPC's destroy your ship, just get close to your target ship and eva out. Then wait for your ship to be destroyed. You want your ship go down relatively quick, else your desired ship might be miles away. This means you might need to balance things a bit. Leave some extra enemy ships alive or turn your shields down for example. For this method to work, there cant be any hostile-to-NPC ships within about 10 km, so if you do this with a team, make sure your teammates break off the fight. Next, you can't sell cargo or mined ores with stolen NPC ships. So Prospectors stolen at a claimjumper mission are useless and a Caterpillar can't be used for trading. Also, which missions give what ships. I won't list all ships Ive stolen just the noteworthy ones. If I just give a crimestat, it works both ways, so either a NPC bounty mission or a patrol interdiction if the player had that crimestat. Caterpillar: CS3 and higher Valkyrie: CS4 and higher Hammerhead: CS5 (really rare to get them on CS4) Buccaneer, Cutlass black and M50: any PVE mission except claimjumpers Sabre: any patrol interdiction, no CS needed Prospector: claimjumpers And a last note, the front blastdoor on the Hammerhead is not locked, so you don't need to shoot at a door for that ship. Im not sure about the NPC Hammerhead, but on a player HH the door behind the turret is open if it is manned, might work on the NPC HH as well. Sorry for the lengthy comment but hope it helps.

I can confirm that the turret doors of the hammerhead are unlocked. I tried to use the destroy my ship trick on a hammerhead in the 3.8 branch and they seem to avoid the player now unless you emp them to kill the engines.

The previous version I could get a Starfarer by beacon missions. The small door on the back of the ship is always unlocked and I was taking them from good NPCs and to not get crime stat I was doing them near Delemar because the space isnt monitored. Now, I was using past term because RSI disabled those missions, but I do believe that they will enable them back again in the next update!

Or you could have it declared as yours. ;) But yeah getting a bit more of a reward would be nice. Either of our ideas here would create a new gameplay loop.

As you didn't intend to kill your friend......friends are not you kill.......usually, that is! ;) However if you want to kill them, they are usually not your friends anymore............so yeah....... ;) :D :P

That's absolutely a gameplay element that they want to implement, they've talked about it exhaustively in their behind-the-scenes show. However, this is still pre-alpha. They're working on building other core elements to the game first.

It's coming. This is basically an unintentional AI gunner test with some hoops you've gotta jump through. Stole a Valkyrie last night and they can't really hit the broadside of a barn even at slow SCM speeds. The Hammerhead is so durable that you can easily solo 10k claimjumper missions just sitting stationary while your shields regenerate and having all your AI gunners do the work for you without needing to get paid for their efforts.

you do not need to have a EMP ship... currently any ship can do it, either eject or climb out of your ship and all the NPC ships will just stop moving once they destroy your ship then just cut the door open - I have a very simple tutorial on how to do it if you want check it out. EMPs do work also but not everyone has one. cool video either way

Also remember that you do not get the reward for bounties if the NPC gunners get the killing blow... sure you use the pilot weapons / missiles

This game would be a lot better with troop transportation and boarding tactics, which would make stealing a ship, or bounty hunting more realistic. And salvage, you could steal rare components this way, after neutralizing the crew. Plus the intense room to room combat would include Counter-Strike type gamers Small scale dogfighting seems pretty complete, to the point where it seems kinda repetitive, the best maneuvering pilot usually wins. So focus more on multi-crew capitol ships, that include things like boarding parties, and small fighters, that would make the game more diverse also

Never needed a EMP, in a Cat and HH, I've got my hawk and bucc tucked just behind the cockpit on the Cat, on the HH you can slip under her shields where the big open slot is in the middle. The Cat you can just shoot the elevator, the HH just go through the door behind the turret. I've stolen them all, Cat, HH, Valkyrie, Bucc, Cutlass. Now if you want a challenge try stealing a cutlass blue while during an interdiction. great video as always STL. ANY CHANCE of a weapons of choice video? I'm just getting into the game and I wish I could upgrade my Titan to a Warlock in the Pledge Store. I'll just have to build up the cash first before beginning my career as a ship jacker. With the Idris being a fightable ship in game I wonder if this will be a possibility. It's supposed to be a big fight but if someone in a Warlock just flys right up to it and disables it then I expect many shenanigans will go from there.

There is a Video by Knebel DE which shows how to steal a Prospector. Just take a Claimjumpermission and as soon as the AI Ships are heading towards you get out of your Ship. Once the AI destroyed your Ship they will just stay there and you can EVA to them and enter them.

Yeah you can steal the Prospector. You can even mine with it. But, just like you can't refuel or repair, you can't sell the cargo.

I haven't tested it yet with 3.9.1 but I frequently steal the pirate cutless and haven't had issues with repair or refueling. I've even repaired missing engines. I will have to try again after work tonight

You can EVA onto a HH by entering behind the side turrets or just opening the front airlock. They aren't locked.

One of the ship companies should make a small ship that latches onto big ships that then cuts a hole into the hull and allows for a few people to board the ship. Once it's latched on it stays there as part of the hull.

Incorrect. It's only a crime if you do this to a lawful NPC. And even then, it's not the ship, but rather the _actual_ NPC character. To pilot the ship you have to kill the NPC in the seat. If it's a lawful NPC you get a crime stat (like security), if it's an unlawful >pirate< NPC you will not. There is a difference. This is what I observed through my own testing. This works as of patch 3.8.2 this may change in 3.9 with how prisons work.
