In todays video we go back and re - examine the Star Citizens Banu Merchantman. Although production of this massive ship has been temporarily paused there are some new areas of the ship we can look at in more detail.The Banu Merchantman is a trading ship capable of landing or docking and then inviting locals in to view what its cargo holds have to offer. The ship design, perfected by generations of Banu development, is intended to offer a combination of high speed and durability. While the Merchantman is less configurable than a Caterpillar or a Starfarer, there's still plenty of room to take the ship in different directions.

I always Imagine the Defender to dock into the wing part or the backside by the engine, like a parasit. So you could have two defenders or keep the hangar and have three. As the entrance of the Defender is in front. And then detach and fall of/out, think the Constellation Phoenix :)

Its genius. You can use this thing as a hauler with makjng profit and additionally while loading on and off you can sell your stuff to customers in style( so like luxury goods etc)

I got it early and thank goodness for that. I'm a massive fan of it, though the latest work we've seen on the interior whitebox has me thinking that they are wasting a LOT of internal space, specifically with the top turret room. It's literally just a chair to go up into the top turret; I don't want a room larger than my house just for that. Add an armory or expand living quarters or something with that extra space. Other than that, I cannot wait. One quick edit: It's actually 2,880 SCU of cargo, not a measly 2,000! :D

Every time I see the version of the BMM like the one you have in your thumbnail it reminds me of a space cruise ship as if it were the 890J's big brother the 1090L. It just doesn't look like the original design enough. It looks like an Origin ship now and that's too bad.

Great use of market will be like ORG functions, buy like 200 sets of various gear and weapons and use the Merchantman as a way to sell gear during events or such. Hopefully it will have some sort of terminal access where players can buy and sell without having to use trust and the MO trader

Something to add as well, you may or may of not known, the boarding ramp when it’s fully extended in flight acts as a fuel scoop.

I used to own one and it was going to be my main ship, but since I usually play alone and don’t know how easy it will be to pay for and repair due to its exotic nature, I’ve gone down to 600i and smaller for my ships

Old interview with CR so take it with a grain of salt, but CR mentioned that bigger ships would have certain missions opened up to them for greater profit potential so the upkeep should not be as bad as some may have you think. This is the only other Capital ship I'd consider, other than the Endeavor (which own lol). I like non combat loops in games like SC and Elite Dangerous. Trading, medical, exploration, mining (if it is fun to do, like DC mining in ED), salvage, racing etc. I like occasional bounty hunting and anti piracy, but not into PvPing. I love being in the Defender, so know I'll enjoy exploring the BMM, eventually ☺️ Excellent video.

Never seen the retracting size 7 nose guns, that’s badass. However, I can’t get over feeling like it’s the 890 jump frame. Meaning it doesn’t seem 100% original. Something with the lore that this has shouldn’t feel like ship wrapped around another ship. In my opinion.

It is 100% hand sculpted and handmade. There is 0 890J asset used for the BMM. They do borrow the goose shape both of them, which I guess is a resemblance, but that's about all.

Work had started, but due to devs leaving, the ship production has been put on hold. The dev team are now focusing their efforts on the RSI brand. When the polaris,perseus, galaxy are complete.. polaris this year. Then work should continue on the bmm. As for time frame? How long is a piece of string?

I feel like Banu ships will be the Orgin of alien types. Other alien ships are all rugged or monolithic looking. Banu ships seem sleek and elegant.

I mean, any large trading ship to be fair. But no matter the size, civilian ships will be much much cheaper to run than an Idris, that includes the Kraken. And without permanant player crew, or an AI crew that will rip any wallet appart with their wages, you won't be fireing that S10 often.

Alien ships are a bit whack, I have the banu on order but will probably switch it for a 'human' ship before it's released. It just breaks immersion to be in an alien ship, unless you're some sort of alien role player.

We are going to be big fat juicy Pinata's so we will have to band together and convoy our BMM's in and out of the gates. I'm guessing 4 BMM's with accompanying fighters will dissuade all but the largest pirate orgs from attacking.

1 or 2 because they are incredibly well defended and are used as warships to do stockades and other defence roles by the banu and with the 2xs8 pilot guns and 2xs5 guns on the top turret i dont think many people would dare to block your path besides other merchantmans or an idris-m with the railgun but even then the merchantman would probobly out manuver the idris line of ships

​@@travisj2370They aren't well defended at all. Those D8 won't hit anything smaller than the BMM itself and a handful of turrets won'tbe enough to protect it. OP was right and only a convoy will make any BMM secure. A single Retaliator will be the doom of a whole BMM.

@captainharlock3998 I didn't buy a ship with a cathedral or a shrine, I bought a gritty, potentially black market trading vessel and they retconned it into a day spa. There are also already plenty of examples of alien ships being modified for humans, so I see no reason why this should be an exception when they literally took money out of our pockets for a completely different concept.

You're crying over spilled milk. You bought a ship at 250 (or 350 depending when you bought it) and you got a 650 ship. CCU it to whatever you do like. I personally love I'm getting a flying cathedral, and I bought it when it was basically a Vanduul ship. Just acvept concepts are bound to change, especially old ones.

Of f**king course CIG makes the decisions. I'm saying it's a bad one. Making the ship bigger doesn't make it any less of a rug pull when people spent hundreds of dollars on a concept and you completely stray from the concept they paid for. Stop defending bad behavior. There is no good defense. It's also only an "old concept" because they have been dragging their feet on it for the better part of a decade.

The same way shops work now. Players gather items they want to sell. Place said items on appropriate stall, items can then be purchased by the onboard terminals at each individual shop front. Well that's my guesstimate. Logically though I feel thats the way to go.
