"Dnyarri could not control very many sentients, if there were very few Dnyarri involved." SC2 Talking Pet: "Hold my space beer" *Proceeds to control the entire Umgah planet*

seeing the Ur-Quan be friendly with a human is so strange XD

Tmccreight25Gaming Not defending SC3 in any way, but there is prescedent. The Kohr-Ah were straight up murder your ass evil, but not entirely unsympathetic. The Kzer-Za however... WERE downright friendly at times. Consider this- You go to the Umgah homeworld without the Taalo shield. Tbe Dnyaari, after being found out, compels you to (go get stepped on by a big daddy). Sorry, wrong game, compels you to (go seek death at the hands of your enemy), fade to black. When you come to, you're face to face with an indignant Kzer-Za, who has apparently been hailing you for some time. The usual threats ensue, though oddly he seems to be impressing on you how much the other humans will suffer due to your actions, but when you mention mind control, everything changes. He LET'S YOU GO. He could have blasted you to atoms, but instead simply orders you back to Earth, without an escort, after you invaded their territory. Sure, there was a larger threat, but could it also have been a touch of sympathy, for a fellow sentient being who had been compelled unwillingly to do something they didn't want to do? The whole Kzer-Za mindset came off to me as "If you want to help us fight, fine, you can continue to travel in space, if not, then we need to make sure you stay out of our way."

I always imagined this was just a particularly elderly Ur-quan since he seems less aggressive, and all wrinkly compared to SC2 urquan. Still, it is a shame to see such imposing fellows not at the frontlines of fending off those that would destroy all sentience like their old foes the kohr ah.

AHHHHH THAT VOICE..... and also, most the ur-quan aren't all that bad, at least the kzer-za, as they just want all to never feel pain again

my guess was that after their defeat in the second game they decided to join with the humans.

There's no more loud, blaring orchestral "WE WILL CONQUER YOU" music in the background. All we get is quiet, depressing elevator music. Plus, the Ur-quan are just way too friendly in this game.

Zernium I prefer when the Ur-Quan were the enemy.
@Mandemon199013 жыл бұрын
Dunno about being friendly, Ur-Quan Kzer-Za were always very polite and seemed more like "Punchclock Villains" than "For Evulz". Still, it bugs me she says "Some of Ur-Quan have taken the path of Kohr-Ra", you are both Ur-Quan! It would be better to say "Some of the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za have taken the path of Ur-Quan Kohr-Ra, the Eternal Doctrine".

Well... They kind of had a bad deal dealt to them here. The developers, I mean. Yes, I want to build Dreadnoughts, screw you if I can't. Also, they couldn't just let you build too many Dreadnoughts; they're awesome. This was their hampering solution to that dilemma.

For those that loved sc2 and want more, I highly recomment getting over those two points and playing through it. The story is as good, possibly better than sc2. I feel like playing it now was leaps better than any other new game out there and fed my need for more starcontrol :) Overall, would I say it was as good as sc2... maybe not, BUT it was maybe an 8.5/10 where I found sc2 to be a 10/10. IF sc3 kept planet landers and had better music, I think I'd give it a 10.5/10.

From the deep, powerful, threatening voice that sounded so plainly dangerous and vile, with dedicated music that compounded the danger of simply being in transmission range of these space-faring juggernaughts...to this...*tear*

Meh...most people completely disregard SC3 as "canon"... I remembered when I played this...I just didn't make any additional Ur-Quan colonies. Just had the original one pumping out Dreadnaughts as fast as possible. But yeah...SC3 was pretty subpar compared to SC2 :\

such an annoying way to prevent you from building more ur quan ships in the game...:(

I LOVED SC2 when it was released and when SC3 came out I bought on day one, played it for 10 minutes and trashed it because: No planet lander mining, no hyperspace movement, and the ur-quan were wussified. I just now loaded sc3 back up and gave it a go in dosbox. I have to say, I LOVED it. I think sc3 got shafted because of two things. 1) it wasn't made by the same people as sc one and two. 2) they ditched the planet lander exploration as that was at the heart of sc2.

@ngnikolaos every game developer says that all the time. I highly doubt TFB is working on anything notable - and Activision very rarely keeps secrets.

You can tell more that they did not do the research.. Kohr-Ah sympathizers in the Kzer-Za is ludicrously impossible and lame because it defeats the whole point of them fighting and being two separate factions. Plus that random Dynarri thing thrown in there was a "wtf" moment because it's a question that has no relevance whatsoever to do with anything (plus the Captain left the only thinking Dynarri on the exploding Precursor ship in the last game).

The hate for this game is 90% pure hipster bullshit and 5% general dislike for the genre. The only reason I don't play it is because I dislike arcade shooters and I dislike fetch quests, which is the same reason I don't play sc2 anymore. Nevertheless the dialog and story here are far more fascinating than the majority of games I currently own. And there are many satisfying moments. The Ur Quan being committed to the league makes perfect sense given context and history imo. They are communal apex predators after all.
@Blu3Jao7 жыл бұрын
"90% pure hipster bullshit". Yes because disliking something that had no respect for the source material, didn't expand upon the series' cannon in any meaningful way, introduced edgy and pointless subplots that only created more plot-holes, and changed the fundamental mechanics of the game to be slower paced and at some points literally impossible to achieve a win state, is so "avant-garde" and "stylish". You are entitled to your opinion and I'm not going to discourage you from enjoying the game, but at its core, this game is not star control.
@Innomen7 жыл бұрын
Said the hipster that thinks his opinion is objective fact. Objectively define: "Respect." "Meaningful." "Edgy." "Pointless." "Fundamental." and "Core." You might as well have called the game a poopy head 6 times.
@Blu3Jao7 жыл бұрын
I'm not claiming my opinion is objective fact, I'm just giving my opinion and providing evidence to support it. I'm not saying it's a bad game, just saying it's not a star control game. If you want to imply my intent so be it. If you don't know already, in the context of my statements: Respect: understanding the central ideas and motives of a work, and in doing so, gaining an appreciation of them. Meaningful: has large ubiquitously accepted impact. Edgy: needlessly associating with negative concepts under the pretense that it's "cool"(sorry that's subjective, I can't think of a better description of edgy without looking up a textbook definition). Pointless: to not contribute to the greater narrative of the game or to reiterate an already explored concept in no greater depth. Fundamental: the central and primary interactions between the player and the game. And finally, Core: the culmination of writing, visuals, mechanics, and sound design that ultimately set the tone and express the ideas the game designers intend to explore. I can provide in game examples of each if you want. Looking back on my previous comment, I do have a harsh tone, sorry. Hope you have a good day.

I have no idea what you're talking about - you sound crazy. The graphics are ugly. The puppets look glitchy, they literally make me uncomfortable. The music is worse than I could have ever imagined, and the music was a high point in the previous game. Your post is its own festering swill of hipster contrarianism, because you failed at your own challenge of just saying you actually like the game straight-up. I never played Star Control 3 and I never will. It looks awful. It's not nearly as far of a plummet as Ultima 8 after Ultima 7, though.
