Solar was a PAIN. Unlike Sector Y, Solar made me go through HELL!! I had to keep my ship high and I never made it to the boss thanks to the lava damage...

Sector Y is my favorite level in the game the atmosphere and music plus the story context we back up the Cornerian army from the Shogun and just utterly destroy them. It’s the first level to acknowledge I was improving too “Fox! You’re supposed to shoot em all!” “Good job! Keep up the pace!” “Is that the best you can do?” “You’re becoming a better pilot!”

In 2020 there was a giga-leak of beta versions of Star Fox 64 which confirmed that the developers considered Solar to be the sun of the Lytlat System. Also, they originally had 3 branching paths from Solar (to either the easy, medium or hard route), instead of just 1 like in the final game!

See also: this level has solar prominences spurting up out the lava/plasma. That made me look up what a " solar prominence" was. Star fox taught me about science. This more than just a video game, it's an experience.

@Carrottime Solar is a planet; it couldn't have magma and crust fragments otherwise. Maybe it's intended to be the star, but I think Lylat is actually placed beyond Venom. The planets seem to become hotter and less temperate as we proceed from Corneria towards Venom; Titania and Zoness both appear to be hot, whereas Katina seems more like Corneria itself.

Because canon says it's a planet. It's called Solar as a reference to the Sun (aka Sol) and the fact that we call the planetary system we live in the Solar System. The Lylat System's star (Lylat) is not seen in the in-game map.

@Carrottime Solar is only 1 sun.... there is another main star called Lylat but it was never shown.....i think that it was part of the map of StarFox 2 but as we all know the game was never released so it was never shown in Starfox 64
