Jared, you gotta eat it with a pinch of salt. No, I mean literally. It tastes delicious with salt.

USE A PARMESAN GRATER AND SEASON A SALAD WITH THE AMLA AS IF IT IS A GARLIK OR A CHUNK OF GINGER . IT ACTUALLY BECOMES GRATED LEMON...HA!! . ADD SALT, OLIVE OIL TO IT AND YOUR SALAD IS NOT SO WET AND TASTES FUCKIN AWESOME.

I think when I was in Ecuador I ate them with salt. Sour berries with abrassive salt = worst thing I ever did to my teeth. But it's a nice crunch in your mouth. Would not recommend.

Ahahah I have the same reaction when eating raw Indian gooseberries. They taste pretty great when they're candied though and drinking water after the raw ones is magical. Best water in the world.

Yes! they make water taste sweet, if I remember correctly.

Yes!!!! When I was a child, we used to do that with that fruit. It was called " Grosella" I don't see this fruit anymore in my country.

from the look of the tree and the leaves, the star gooseberry seems to be related to the belimbing and starfruit. My mother has a belimbing tree in her backyard, and she makes a fantastic pickle with the belimbing using onion, garlic, chilli and dried shrimp.

The star gooseberries grow here in Barbados, but there used to be more plentiful. They are best used to make jams but I've eaten a few as a boy.

It gives you sweet in tounge if you drink water after... There is a saying in India based on this... "Words of elders are like Amla, first it feels bitter later it will be sweet"...

I just got some amla candy from an Indian supermarket in my area. It's called Amla Bites and it comes in a green box. It's round pieces of fruit leather with redchili, jaggery, asafoetida, and salt. I wish I didn't buy it because it taste gross. You know the way a garage or an auto repair shop smells? That's what it taste like. Maybe people who aren't familiar with that smell, could develop a liking for it, but I'm having a really hard time getting past the motor oil/car exhaust aspect of the taste. It's weird how a food can taste good to one person, and disgusting to another, just because of the associations we have with it.

Before, I only use dried powdered gooseberry for skin and hair. But last I found that eating the fresh one can be tasty after soaking it in water and salt for 3-5 days then if you like you can change the water every day to make sure no more bitter taste. After that you can add lemon juice or salt and eat it like pickles. Thank you very much for the video. I know what is the gooseberry taste like but I only want to watch to see your face after taking the first bite😆.

haha, I've had it pickled like that in malaysia. Its good!

I got an amla paste mixed with a sweetener and spices when I was in India.You eat a teaspoon full every morning. It has a lot of vitamins. I brought a sealed jar back to the USA with me. It was delicious. I can't remember the brand name because this was 25 years ago.

Question, have you tried or know about a fruit that grows from a palm tree, and is red with an oval shape? There’s fruits like that in my school, I don’t know if they’re edible, or what it even is. It’s also dusty looking and and when ripe (sunset red) they fall from the tree.
@farisasmith71097 жыл бұрын
It is very sour. We make a juice and a jam with lots of sugar. The juice has to be diluted. Very high in vitamin C.
