My father Greg Pineda was elemental in the creation of this video! I remember you Michael sitting around the studio trying to get this off the ground. We would sit and talk metal together. Because my father wasn't a fan, but saw the value in the video series creation. Do you remember those days in Video Effects Group in Westlake Village?

Paul Gilbert's picking style was clearly influenced by practicing Van Halen's Spanish Fly and Michael Angelo's Star licks. Paul's picking patterns are so similar to Spanish Fly it's almost identical.

He did mention it many times how much he was influenced by EVH. The picking-pull offs licks to be precise. While his trademark alternate picking from ‘intense rock I’ was from Al Dimeola which he also did mention in an interview. All of those are in youtube.

3:48 Shawn Lane did a ton of these style licks. Would be interesting if this video influenced Shawn at all or he came up with it all himself. There are clips of him doing it at a very young age though. His powers of 10 Album came out in 1992.

@MichaelAngeloBatioOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Yes. I actually transcribed the booklet by hand. I learned music notation in High School (more in College) and at the time of this video, there were no software programs available for TAB. No software for pretty much anything! I was the only Artist that transcribed their own exercises and riffs for the booklet.

Mike when you stayed home all day and practiced the alternating lick did you use a metronome? Thanks for the inspiration.

Michael Angelo, serious question, how does a professional player with so much theory knowledge keeps their sense of wonder playing guitar? For example, when an intermediate player improvises, they may stumble into a 'magic note' and that makes their day. A pro may just know to 'go for the 6th of the xwz mode' or whatever.
