Finally managed to beat this game (PSP version) after all these years. That final boss doesn't mess around. Got a little frustrated with a few bosses near the end, but otherwise a fantastic RPG, and one that I look forward to experiencing again in the near future.

what a great game i love 2 and 3 but a fairly mediocre series overall. i wish there were more good rpgs in the sci fi genre,

You only contradicted your great game comment after that saying mediocre series overall? Then you really do not like Star Ocean. For me this game is a lot better than Final fantasy VII and VIII.

@@megamike15 That is your opinion. You want to hear mine? Till The End of Time and Last Hope are good but let down by a few game elements except star ocean 5 which is meant to be great but became a great failure. You want to know my feelings about 3 and 4 it will be lengthy?

@@awakenedsoul2638 3 and 4 just had to many issues to be enjoyable. the stories were not as interesting. the dungeons are way to long and alot of the characters are weak.

Wonderful review! For the future, I highly recommend you increase your voice volume and reduce the music. I had to turn it off almost immediately since it was so distracting, only to force myself through it. I still loved the content though!

Don't remember much about this game except for the one time I played on this older guys acc and accidentally deleted his 255 lvl save..lol he never let me touch his ps ever again. (I was 7, he was 18)

HA HA HA BUB that was an insult! Even if you play everyday it will take you months to reach level 255. This is the limit level. If you like to try that cave of trials then you need to level up to 255 every character you have.

Loved this Game! Never finished it though because my wife took over and I could never get a chance to play :/. Watched her beat it though and she still talks about it fondly even to this day (played around 20yrs ago).

@@xcaluhbration Thanks man! Well, I'd certainly recommend replaying FF9, revisiting it after years away was a special experience. You have to play Suikoden 2 as well. I'd also recommend the Arc the Lad collection (it's a trilogy and quite the investment, but definitely worth it).

very good graphics, music, sound effects, a lot of item creation, skills for each character and these are one of the many things you can do in the game, lots of replayability, lots of ending it says at the back of the case over 80 possible endings, good story not great, lots of skills for you to spend your skill points, unique private action to see how each character interact with each other to know more of their feelings FOR ME ULTIMATELY THIS IS THE BEST RPG ON PLAYSTATION DURING THE NINETEES SURPASSING FINAL FANTASY 7 & 8. Anyone agree with me?

This is one my fav JRPG in PS1 and since English is not my native language I didn't really have any issue about the game (especially because the first time I played this game in 2002 I was still 10 and my English was hundred times worse than now). My fav thing about the game was not the story or gameplay, it was Ashton Anchor, the unluckiest game character in the world. 😂😂

Great review! Just started replaying this a few weeks ago, although it's been slow going, since I've also been playing like 8 other RPGs lol.

For some reason the gameplay have never clicked with me when it comes to the 2D Tales of and Star Ocean games, but Star Ocean 2D games does flow better in combat compared to the Tales of ones. The translation was probably the main reason why I did not really care for the story or characters in this game and I think all the endings that this game has does not really add that much because they are different mostly in very minor ways. I have heard the PSP version was re-translated so that might be the best version of the game. I think Its a good game but do prefer many JRPGs on the PS1 over this one.

Tried to pickup the star ocean series... but just couldn't, the tales of series combat mechanic is superior in every way, it's a shame though because the story/characters were pretty interesting, and considering the story behind the games launch and all
