Filipino here, I still find it funny that RPN evolved from being an entertainment channel with some news to CNN Philippines. As for Power Rangers and Sentai comparison, older Filipino kids who grew up watching Sentai call Power Rangers as "American Bioman." RPN later aired more Sentai, which includes Maskman, Bioman, and Jetman.

Hi! I'm such a fan of Star Rangers back in 1979 shown here in the Philippines in my black & white television then. My idol is Star 4. Well she's a lady in pink and the love interest of Star 1. I was so devastated when the television network here changed it to a group named JAKQ or the Lucky Aces. Oh how I hated them. good thing there's Voltes 5. then they changed it again to Balatac to which ... again disappointed me.... I'm always a loyal fan of the first one. You can find episodes 1, 2, and 4-11 of the Star Rangers dub on archive.org. Supposedly someone on myspleen had 12 but the torrent is currently dead, sadly. The Lucky Aces dub also unfortunately seems to be lost to time. I wonder if the network still has the tapes of the episodes. Maybe we could convince Shout! to look into it if they get the go-ahead to release Sentai again and try to include those dubs on future releases, much like how Discotek goes out of their way to find and restore obscure dubs of some of the older anime they release. Even if they included the found Star Rangers recordings as an extra, that would be cool. They should at the very least try for the Bioman dub since that's 100 percent found, including the movie.

Wait.. I could have sworn Goranger (Star Rangers) was shown first before JAK-Q in the Philippines! And JAK-Q wasn't called "Lucky Aces", it was just called JAK-Q (pronounced Jack-cue). Can someone confirm that?
@GregnelMunda Жыл бұрын
That’s how I remember it too (though I was pretty young); Star Rangers/GoRanger aired before JAKQ, and I knew of JAKQ as “Jack-Cue.” Also, for some reason I don’t remember seeing Big One in my childhood viewings of JAKQ. Lastly, while JAKQ’s codenames were in English, they did modify them for the English/Filipino dub: instead of “Spade Ace,” “Dia Jack,” et. al, it was “Ace of Spades,” “Jack of Diamonds,” “Queen of Hearts,” and “King of Clubs.” I also remember a dub of the Tokusatsu series “Kyoudain”though I don’t remember what the dubbed version’s title was; the concept was that two guys (brothers?) had their personalities transferred to robots (only slightly larger than human size), and their original human faces could appear on TV screens mounted on the robots.

You got it wrong. Star Rangers (Goranger) was the FIRST Sentai broadcasted here in the Philippines in 1978 on government-run RPN-9 TV network and J.A.K.Q (Jaka) came SECOND in 1979. I am 53 years old now and I watch Star Rangers when I was a 10 year old Grade 4 elementary student in 1978. Don't rely on what you read on Wikipedia and Fandoms about the broadcast year of Star Rangers and J.A.K.Q in the Philippines. The info was obviously invented by Filipino editors who was not born yet when these two Sentai shows were aired here in the Philippines. I know the right info because I was there when this all happened. By the way, the Philippine-English dubbed versions of all the Japanese Anime and Sentai broadcasted in RPN-9 in 1978 until the August 27, 1979 ban on all Japanese shows with "violent and war-like nature" was made by UNICOM Company. The Company is defunct since the 1979 ban (unlike Questor who made the English dub for GMA-7) so I don't think copies of their English dubbed still exist since there is no company archive to begin with. J.A.C.K Q was short-lived as it was aired just a few months before the August 1979 ban and it was broadcasted by RPN-9 at the same time with GMA-7'S most favorite anime in the Philippines, VOLTES V, on Fridays at 6:00 PM the reason reason why J.A.K Q did not become as popular as Star Rangers. I have a copy of the July-August 1979 issue of TV Times Magazine where the program schedules of Star Rangers and J.A.K. Q is recorded. Please correct your wrong information and make another video. Salamat po and Mabuhay!
