STAR'S END: Chuck van Zyl Member Concert (excerpt) 6 April 2024

Perhaps better known as host of Star's End - WXPN's revered radio program of Ambient Music, or as founder of The Gatherings - Philadelphia's premiere concert series of innovative music, Chuck van Zyl has also been producing his own electronic realizations since the mid-1980s. He has played live at a range of venues and issued numerous studio works and concert recordings - all in service to an enduring impulse for expression.
Concerts by Chuck van Zyl take each listener on their own personal journey. Realized in the specific poetry of Spacemusic his expressions draw on a unique understanding of texture, atmosphere and scale. With its harmonic gateways and brilliant sequencer breakdowns, from the heights of heedlessness, on down to its quietly consuming fields, his music invites wonder.
The WXPN/Star's End 2024 Member Concert began at 7:00pm on Saturday 6 April 2024 and consisted of a meet-and-greet and 60 minute live studio performance (w/video light show), followed by a Q&A, discussion and gear demos in the intimacy of WXPN's Performance Studio, 3025 Walnut Street in Philadelphia. This event was free for XPN Members but a reservation was required as seating was limited to just 40 attendees.
This clip includes the closing section from the WXPN/Star's End Member Concert by Chuck Van Zyl (w/live video art by Neil Cippon) on 6 April 2024 at WXPN Studios as a "Thank You" gift to Members. Thanks to everyone in attendance for this intimate salon recital.

Same here. Fell asleep during the end of the first set. I hardly ever stay up to 10pm (PDT). I was still jet lagged from our Korea trip so I was able to stay up for the start of Chucks show. But must of fell asleep soon after. But that’s a good thing. I play the SOMA show Drone Zone every night when I go to bed.
