The complete playthrough of the game Star Trek 25th Anniversary.
Join Captain Kirk and company in Star Trek 25th Anniversary, a thrilling adventure game from Interplay (1992)!
This game (and its immediate sequel, Star Trek Judgment Rites) constitute the 'unofficial' fourth season, according to the game manual. Two versions of this game were released, the first on floppy disk, and the second on CD with full voice acting from the cast of Star Trek. These two games mark the last time the cast portrayed their original Star Trek characters together.
The game is episodic in nature, broken into seven 'missions', or episodes. In Star Trek 25th Anniversary, these are independent of each other. The whole thing has great production values for its time, at the height of this style of graphical 'adventure' game, and the voice acting from the cast really makes it slick and memorable. It really feels like a season of Star Trek, complete with Shatner totally phoning it in.
I tried to do these episodes as expeditiously as possible while elaborating on most of the reasonings behind the actions. The game has much more content than is shown, and much more dialogue.
Add &fmt=18 for high quality.

Did they literally get the entire Enterprise crew together again just to do the voice talent?? That's pretty incredible! 👌

Even better: they actually made a sequel (Judgement Rites) only one year later, which was just as good. This was 30 years ago from nowaday, which is more than the 25 years from 1992 to when the TOS premiered. Feel old yet? 🥲

My brother and I had this game back when we were little in 95 on original floppies. Never got past the first level but I knew it was ahead of it's time. I'm glad I dug this up. The plots are surprisingly intriguing with great dialogue and even moments of wit. The voice acting is also marvelous, even if the version I had didn't have it. So yeah 8Mb was huge back then.

This is amazingly well-written and true to the characters. It also subverts expectation by including a random redshirt on the away missions and then not killing him. Spock makes joke at 2:06:30 when he gives the odds in trinary.

I'm interested if this game can be speedrun, by just choosing the shortest (and sometimes failed) way to complete each mission. Is this possible? Does the game let you reach the end screen if you just make it through? Or do you need to get at least 50% on each mission?
@L1011Widebody
@L1011Widebody 6 жыл бұрын
Technically I suppose you could speedrun it, in a way. Off the top of my head I know you can intentionally bugger the hostage negotiations in Hijacked, and you can cut out a significant portion of The Feathered Serpent by handing Quetzalcoatl over to the Klingons first chance you get. But the idea of trying a speedrun of this only to wind up wasting an hour fighting the Enterprise II (there is no-frakkin'-way you can beat it on the first try, at least in the CD version)... that's just cruel. You'd have to save and reload to have any shot. As far as 'failing out' ... in Judgment Rites (the sequel) yes this can happen. In this one, nope. I managed to get down to 25% - check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ6yo2ePqdhlmpI

Thanks for your response. I'm playing around with the game at the moment and finding bugs and stuff. Question: I heard there is a "reverse view" during ship combat? What key activates it, how to use it? Or am I misunderstanding it? I'm also curious what would happen if you win a combat that's meant to be a gameover (e.g. if you provoke the Klingons in mission 5).
@L1011Widebody
@L1011Widebody 6 жыл бұрын
1 - No. Not in this one. This feature is added in Judgment Rites. F3 is forward, F4 is reverse, F5-F9 or F-10 are left and right and top and bottom... I think. Some order like that. You can also magnify the view somehow but I don't know the key for that. All these options can be accessed via Sulu's station and the mouse, also. 2 - In Mission 5 at least, more warp in. In 'you warped to the wrong place' ones, you're just free to go.
@mugg1991

Another question, a guide I was using says that in mission 7 I should talk to the dying woman and then just use my communicator and beam back. But I can't beam back. I have to play through the whole mission. Is the guide giving me wrong information? The guide is here walkthroughking.com/text/startrek25th.aspx And I found a trick with ship combat. You can press K to pause the game and weapons cooldown will run out on this pause screen, allowing you to shoot basicly every frame. This makes even the final battle easy. I will attempt speedruns soon. Thanks for your help!
@L1011Widebody
@L1011Widebody 6 жыл бұрын
It's accurate for the original floppy disk version (without voice acting). The CD release (which is the most common one now) expanded the mission. K actually brings up the 'Kirk' menu... I experimented with this a bit. You can re-aim up on the viewer and hammer left and right mouse, and more or less fire continuously repeatedly. But the ship steering becomes almost random, and one time doing this, it became stuck in a right turn I couldn't get out of. It also seemed to still be difficult facing multiple ships.

Judgment Rites tightened the gameplay up a lot (and responded to criticism of the spaceship combat being too difficult by including an option to remove it entirely, though as you can see I don't have a problem with that! :) ). So 25th Anniversary feels almost like a step back compared to it. It's still a great, fun game, though it contains two notoriously difficult puzzles (in Devil Moon and Vengeance). It would've been nice if Spock had been more helpful on that mission. I wouldn't have thought of a base 3 numbering system, and I doubt even a Federation captain could easily remember how it works off the top of his head. The worst part is that if you don't figure it out before you leave for the surface, you can't commmunicator back up and say 'help me with this would you?'. Spock should have recognized it earlier and said something. Lazy Vulcan...

It should auto-detect your sound properly to play the voices if it's the CD version. You should ideally be running it through DOSBox so there may be a problem with your settings. Also, the starmap is in the manual. Remember copy-protection? Anyway, there should be a .PDF of the manual on your CD. Failing that, you can Google Star Trek 25th Anniversary PC Manual and take your pick.

L-1011 Widebody That might be it! I think there's a few things we tried against it that this person never attempted. IIRC it's immune to phasers and would force the crew out of the room. I think we used the phasers to blast the door down, to which it found some way to keep us out anyway. Thanks!

TheReaverOfDarkness Yes, there are multiple options and paths to choose, I tried to show as many relevant cutscenes and dialog choices as I could, but really, there's a vast plethora of tools at your disposal. Especially in Judgment Rites.

Using three red is an instant game over, and I forget what three blue does but I believe it ends the mission with a bad ending.

I had this as part of an Interplay set, but the voiceovers and sound fx didn’t play. So this feels weird to hear their voices.

I played it through and won the battle against Bradel by the skin of my teeth(and some luck) but I will say the game has a few glitches in timing especially finding Mudd in two places at once and some puzzels on other missions not responding, I now recommend setting DOSBox to "auto" to slow down the cycles when needed I had it on 15000! I may play it again with the DOSBOX tweeks to see if I get the same anomolies.

I have this game on CD, how do I go about getting it to run on my current Windows 7 64 bit system? I recall getting as far as the 3rd space battle when I first got this thing.

How the heck did you beat that final battle? I've only done it once. And I tried it again four more times after watching this battle. And I'm on easy mode. And I'm running my cycles on Dosbox down to where the game is lagging to slow the speed down.

any tips on the combat? i always get wasted on the first battle (Romulans). i try to move the crosshair to where the enemy appers to be judging from the radar but i get wasted in seconds

+Yoni123 yes! I was able to beat the simulation battle! what really helped was figuring out some hotkeys for weapons and shields (W and S). I dont think I even had my shields on before : p any other tips for the harder battles?
@L1011Widebody
@L1011Widebody 9 жыл бұрын
+Yoni123 Picture the radar scope as being like a dart-board. Push the crosshairs up and to the left when you see a target in the upper left of your scope. Make sure to work your throttle, keep it to max when you're chasing them down, but slow down when you get a good bead on the enemy ship, so you can hit it with more volleys. Don't forget that the phasers and photon torpedoes don't have the same travel speed and recharge rate, so try to use your phasers more often for leading and don't fire torpedoes until you think you've got a good chance to hit. Torpedoes do much more damage.

+L-1011 Widebody how did you kill the ship so fast at 24:00. it took me dozens and dozenns of hits. is it because they were able to always flee and repair but you got many hits in quick succession so they couldnt repair?

Sorry to everyone who wants to find this disc nowadays, but I bought the CD-Enhanced version when it was new back in the 90s, so I'm using the original vintage game-disc. I wouldn't know where to find it now, I guess try e-Bay? Also as a general course I rip the CD itself to an ISO image for gameplay/recording because it eliminates CD-lag and generally saves wear on the disc. But please don't ask me to send you an ISO.

Can't. I've tried on Windows XP and XP 64-bit. This game is a DOS-based game and has to be run in a DOS window. Everything from XP and beyond does not have DOS. It makes me want to find good mid to late 90's computer components and build a computer using them and Windows 95/98.

There a number where there are no casualties: For instance, "A Taste of Armageddon" has a large number of Red Shirts, they all have useful roles and they ALL survive.

Fist off, only the CD Deluxe version has voices, and that one is super hard to find. Second, its difficult to get the voices working in dosbox, ive done it, but it requires you have the iso mounted.
