When Kirk says, "Goodbye, David," it gets to me. Every time I've lost a friend or relative, I work towards a way of giving myself closure. Once I have done what needs to be done to honor the deceased, I play this scene, wait for Kirk to say goodbye to his son, and then say goodbye to the friend or relative I am honoring. It's said we all grieve differently. This is my way.

I can relate. Every time I think of when I lost my Meemaw often times I either think of 'The Snowman in July' or of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, particularly the funeral chorale and the ending. The last two years she was alive she was in a nursing home with Parkinsons. She had a feeding tube sticking out of her abdomen and she could hardly talk. Even before that she had been losing weight, so for me the snowman cartoon reminded me of her because it felt like she was fading away. Thankfully she never fully lost her mind. The only time she ever went to lala land was when she had a bladder infection, and even then she always knew who we were and that we loved her. The ending of Snow White reminds me of her too because I know she went to Heaven. Despite everything she went through she's in the arms of God who loves her. Jesus was her Prince and he has never failed her.

The one Captain from Wrath of Khan is the Tamarian Captain. Also, Janeway was on Cheers, The Doctor was on Frasier, Spock was the bad guy on a SPECTACULAR episode of Columbo, Janeway was Columbo’s wife, Yates from DS9 was on The Orville, and, most importantly, Jeffrey Combs is actually god, and made the universe in his image.
@xaenon6 жыл бұрын
Spock was on more than Columbo. Look up an old 1964 OUTER LIMITS episode in which he was reporter covering the story of a robot accused of murder. When the episode was remade in the 1990s, he again starred, but this time as the defense attorney. Jeffrey Combs was awesome as Cmdr. Shran in ENTERPRISE, and appropriately smarmy and annoying as Weyoun in DS9.

Klingons prefer to be executed by their enemy because it's the honorable way to go. Being taken alive as prisoner lowest thing you could be in Klingon warrior culture. Kirk must have known this, so he dealt out one final insult to the last surviving Klingon by not killing him. Kirk is legend.

@porpus999 жыл бұрын
elcap22 Depends on what your source is, and if it is considered canon. For example, there is a star trek book series called genesis wave. Basically Charrol Marcus survived into the Next Generation. One of Star Fleets greatest secrets that they more or less kept isolated and under guard, as they did not want the Genesis device recreated. Someone kidnaps her and uses her to perfect the Genesis Wave, or something along those lines. Maltz is in the story. The Empire kept him alive, as he was the only remaining Klingon with any real knowledge of the Genesis Device. During the story he started out as an ambassador to some back water world, punishment really, where he was a drunk. He recognized the effects of the Genesis Wave and works to help stop it, or something along those lines.

Notice how we never know whatever happens to Maltz. They take him to the prison in the ship, and nobody sees or hears from him after that. We assume that they go right to Vulcan without dropping him off anywhere. We can only hope that he is dropped off somewhere in a Vulcan prison. Wouldn't it have been super to have had them go back to Earth in Star Trek IV and Maltz still be there. He could commandeer the Klingon ship and fly it back into their present and leave Kirk and his crew stranded on Earth in 1986.

He's never mentioned again in the films. And the expanded universe has made several different choices with him. The novel has him just commit suicide shortly after, while the Klingon dictionary says he was sent to Earth a prisoner and cooperated in translating the Klingon language in exchange for a pardon. Meanwhile originally the Voyage Home was going to feature him as their prisoner who caused problems for them during the movie (but was cut because they figured having an actual alien that didn't just have funny ears would make it impossible for them to not stand out too much) and he was going to appear in Star Trek VI as a witness at the trial, suggesting the he was just given back to the Klingons at some point, but Laroquette was busy filming Night Court and couldn't make the shoot.

I really haven't seen this said before, but I feel like the Genesis planet failed because it had the spirit of Khan in it. Star Trek's 2-4 was really just one long movie and I feel like the corruption of the planet had so much to do with the fact Khan died in the Genesis wave. May sound too spiritual but the planet started out with such hope, much like Khan's (and others) creation in their story line on Earth only to see it go horribly wrong and see Khan eventually turn into a man consumed with hate and anger to the point he let it destroy himself and all his people

Nnnno it wasn’t. It failed because David used Protomatter to accelerate the process, not because it had the spirit of Khan in there. TOS was weird but the movies weren’t that weird.

@@L1z43vr Supposedly it was a combination of protomatter and Genesis not being formed from an actual solid planet like it was designed to (it was created from a nebula).

It looks like the Enterprise crew had already taken over the Klingon vessel by then so Kirk could have said, "It's me, Kirk, beam me up," and that would have worked as well. Of course he would not have known that I guess. It's not all the way clear. They definitely say Maltz is the only Klingon left, so what exactly was going on in the Klingon ship when Kirk and the Klingon captain were down there?

0:49 Maltz has them at bay with his disruptor and he was clearly expecting his commander to return.

I wonder why the bridge was changed for the next movie. Was it not Klingon enough?
