@Ar D I have seen all 13 films and every single episode of TOS, TNG and Voyager. This movie and it's two sequels definitely are a part of the Trek franchise and for me, they are among the best of what this great franchise has to offer. Star Trek as a whole is about one thing and one thing only at its core... FAMILY. And this movie does a great job at showing the beginning of this crew coming together as such.
@jayvardy5 жыл бұрын
@Ar D movies and tv follow a different formula. Star Trek is not immune to that. Also let's stop pretending that the original Trek didn't have action in it... Ridiculous. Kirk got into many fist fights and the Enterprise had space battles several times in both tv and films before this. Let's also not pretend that the 2009 Trek movie is only action and has no character moments, that is also ridiculous. This movie to me was exactly what Star Trek needed at the time to reinvigorate the franchise and it worked.

Phasers, also yep. But the enterprise didn't burst into red flashes before,never. Romulans didn't use MIssiles, nobody with proper TEch used Missiles in Startrek. Question is, why did the Makers of this Movie felt the urge to invent everything new? Couldn'T they just make a "starship Thunderbold vs Bad alien-dude"? than they could have give the Ships every form they liked,the weapons could be every color, shot from every angel, call them every name you want. I like these movies, but not for the same reason I like original star trek. I mostly like these movies because J.J. Abrams knows how to make a film keep your interest. Anybody who's watched the Search for Spock knows exactly what I'm talking about when I say that I went into a coma from that movie.

+Glen Batts probably named after the even more widely known abbreviation: F.aster T.han L.ight. a totally different tech than warp drive..but would utilize some of the same principles.
@majest338 жыл бұрын
***** true. I suppose the use of the term "warp" has always just made me think of the way they travel as not having so much to do with increased speed as more to do with twisting space /time...but i suppose whats depicted in the series IS actually more suggestive of massive quantum energy generated speeds, with stasis fields to negate mass and protect the integrity of the vessels, so "warp" is possibly somewhat of a misnomer..but more more likely its appropriate if they use some combo of both "warp" fields to negate the mass of the vessels in space/time with directed quantum energy effects for ftl thrust. I guess I'd have to get into the books to really understand how their tech works. all that being said though I now remember when I was replying that I was also kind've being subtly facetious as a fan of the BSG series. unnecessarily creating a contrast between the two series space travel technology depictions, but I didn't actually mention the BSG series openly. :P
@majest338 жыл бұрын
I see, good point. So although the means is unconventional the speed is still going to be measured by the distance obtained between points within a span of time. That will be the perception/reference frame the travelers would rely on in navigation. Combat in warp space would probably rely on other factors and use an entirely different scale of speed since it would probably still rely on the difference between the conventional rigs.

I have often heard Trekkies say they hate these new movies. I love these films. They're exciting and fun, the acting is really good, and it's more of a focus on adventure than older Star Trek. It will never replace TNG or the original series, but it's a little unrealistic to expect Star Trek to stay the same throughout time.

09 Trek nullifies nothing. What part of parallel universe do so many Trek fans not understand? The timeline was already very different before the supernova pulled the Romulan ship and old Spock into the alternate time stream. The single engine U.S.S. Kelvin that is seen at the beginning of the film would stand out like a sore thumb in the time before or after the pilot episode 'Cage',Star Trek, presumably where this Trek movie was occurring.

SORRY BUT YOU ALL HAVE IT WRONG. THIS IS NOT THE SAME TIMELINE BUT ANOTHER UNIVERSE IN WHICH OLD SPOCK AND THE ROMULANS CHANGED THAT PAST FROM A NEAR MIRROR TO WHAT IT IS. IN OTHER WORDS TELL ME HOW OLD SPOCK CAN STILL EXIST IF HIS TIMELINE HAS CHANGED IT TO CREATE ANOTHER ONE IN WHICH HE SHOULD NOT. THERE IS ONLY ONE ANSWER THAT FITS TRAVELING TO ANOTHER PARALLEL UNIVERSE AND ALTERING ITS PAST.

This film is responsible for my love of all things Trek. It provided a bridge into a universe that was just too campy for me to get into growing up. Now I obsessively watch all of the series (except for Enterprise, obviously).
@Greendotz11 жыл бұрын
Why all the hate for Enterprise? I've watched all episodes from TNG to Enterprise and I found it to be one of my favourites. If you liked voyager then I don't understand how you couldn't like Enterprise.
@fangonkful11 жыл бұрын
I don't know, its just bad. And there seems to be a consensus that it is bad. If you like it, more power to you I guess. Edit: All of the Trek shows are campy. TNG had lots of truly terrible episodes. I guess I still enjoyed the series because it had an emotional core that spoke to me. Voyager had it. DS9 definitely had it. But when I watch Enterprise, it just feels very empty. Humanity is depicted as having evolved in TNG into something greater than we are now, or at least, thats the way I have always felt about it. I love Star Trek because it is aspirational. The characters in Enterprise feel small and the show doesn't offer me any sense of hope about the future of people. Just feels like some generic SyFy space show - unworthy of the Trek mantle. It could have been truly great but it wasn't.
