One of the best TOS episodes; but nearly all of them were good. Trelane's character is clearly the seed of the idea for what would become Q in TNG. If TOS had stayed on, it's possible Trelane would have appeared again, as well as Koloth, For, and/or Kang and Mara. Too bad we couldn't have seen Harry Judd, Cyrano Jones, and Pike's Number One again.

He's just a kid, for another. He's not a Q. He's just some adolescence from an alien race that is very different from what we're used to. There's a lot of these kind of species in The Original Series. They're not all inter-related. It's supposed to be a big universe. When you tie everything together it becomes smaller and smaller and smaller... The writers on TOS were often considering bringing Kor back whenever they did another Klingon episode, but they chose not to specifically because they felt it made the universe seem smaller.

In all of sci-fi, the TOS phaser is THE most badass. It makes your target just _go away._ No mess... no body to dispose... just gone. Of all the fictional weapons in all TV and movies, this is the one I want. Some might choose something flashier like a light saber or Alien pulse rifle. Gimme a good old fashioned 1968 phaser.

"Oh how absolutely typical of your species: you don't understand something so you become fearful." Trelane is a crazed fancifist, but he's quite right.
