FILM DESCRIPTION:
A surprise attack in outer space forces the Enterprise to crash-land on a mysterious world. The assault came from Krall (Idris Elba), a lizard-like dictator who derives his energy by sucking the life out of his victims. Krall needs an ancient and valuable artifact that's aboard the badly damaged starship. Left stranded in a rugged wilderness, Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the crew must now battle a deadly alien race while trying to find a way off their hostile planet.

I remember wondering how much screen time Anton Yelchin would have. I knew his untimely passing happened after filming wrapped and did not expect Chekhov to be with Kirk most of the time everyone was split up, which meant he got even more screen time than expected, but that's a good thing. God rest Anton.

One thing I love about the new movies is that they give a real-world scale comparison. You don't have to do much guess work about the inner workings because you can go from a hallway, through a hole in the hull, to the outside all in the same shot and really appreciate the magnificence in engineering - even for a fictional space craft!

They had the advantage of falling flat to the bottom of the ravine if they wanted to at the last second and would only have to worry about loose/falling debris, or jagged pieces sticking out from the ship (or the ship crushing the ground several feet when it landed again), she was going to be pancaked regardless.

StarFleet has really got to reposition the bridge as an internal component, and stick a phaser on top of the Saucer. It's too easy to break the viewscreen, even on a Sovereign class…
@jblyon2
@jblyon2 3 жыл бұрын
A giant hole to space that can be shattered with a few hand phaser shots and a kick is a pretty big design flaw. At least on the Sovereign (and most all Prime ships) it was just a screen, holo or otherwise, and you had to rupture the hull to compromise it. But yeah, for a part of the ship that important you put it in a well protected location and not in an external easily identifiable "uh, let's aim there" position.
@Prodagist
@Prodagist 2 жыл бұрын
@@jblyon2 I'm a bit late to this, but it's not as big of a design flaw as it seems, it may appear like they took out the view screen with just a few phaser shots, but that only worked because the screen was already cracked. That's Veiw screen survived the entire attack in space, Re-entry, and crashing into a planet, and it was only cracked, and think of it this way, Is it easier to tear fabric when its undamaged? or if it already has a small tear in it? the only reason the phaser shots did any damaged to the veiw screen is cause it was damaged from the crash

@SoranoGuardias

They are not falling straight down. They are sliding down the hull as it tilts. The saucer has a diameter of around 335 meters so it was just a quick slide.
@logicplague
@logicplague 3 жыл бұрын
@@SoranoGuardias still wouldn't have worked that way, "quick" is an understatement, they would have definitely been hurt and probably killed
@SoranoGuardias
@SoranoGuardias 3 жыл бұрын
@@logicplague You also need to consider that the slide is already less than HALF of the saucer diameter due to the bridge dome, and then you have to consider the damage done to the hull from the impact. I would say the slide would have been less than 90 meters. Plus we do not know the actual gravity of this planet. I would assume it is less than Earth as they are able to successfully launch the Franklin into space after nosediving the ship off of a cliff.

Whaaa..t, this Enterprise & the later ST timeline, Voyager, at that time & age, stiyy..ll duznt ave "Repulsor" technology, while the Romulans, Klingons & Vulcans all had ? Dunno 'bout the Ferengi & Cardassians, but the former mentioned 3 definitely ave 'em. Migh.., if I's Admiral Marcus or any other powerful figure, I'd employ shady figures to go conduct tech-espionage to obtain or acquire (meaning buy) that wic we do not possess, evn if from profiteering career traders, like the Ferengis. Unwilling to employ "cloaking" tactical feature, all bcoz of Federation's self-righteous principle of presenting themselves as "An Absolutely Principled" straight-up - zero veil-zero concealment - we are just as U see us type moral values ? Watta 'ell, why then not do away with 'Shields' feature, "Completely", while we're at that ?, since we've that much morality to uphold for our counterpart on-the-other-side-of-the-fence to see ? Heck, if truly such is how we carry ourselves, we must then be the only faction that in essence, are at the "back waters" in tech advancement of the lot. Let's not evn mention the Dominions or Species 8472.
