I was privileged to have communicated with him on Twitter several times, over a span of several years. He was a very good person. He liked my version of the theme from DS9, which I have on my Channel here. Sadly when I was making the video I neglected to put images of Odo, who was probably a character 2nd in importance to “The Sisko”... :( Here’s the video... it is overly Garak-centric hehe. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4bZk2Ooj9Fqpqs

Man, Cirroc really is aging into Avery Brooks. Now THAT is some great casting. Like, 26 years ago the casting director looked at Cirroc and said "this kid could be Avery Brook's son" and they ended up being more right than they could possibly have imagined.

Maybe the next Trek show should be Star Trek: Sisko. But it's about Jake. Would be a different kind of Trek show, he'd be a travelling writer, going around on a starship (possibly one captained by someone else from DS9), and he's writing about the people they help each week. With a season-long overarching story where he's trying to bring his father home, almost reminiscent of The Visitor. It wouldn't be your typical Trek show, but then neither was DS9. I'd watch it. But then i'd also watch Roddenberry's idea for a starfleet hospital ship show. A medical procedural like House MD set on a starfleet vessel saving lives wherever they go? Sign me up!

I feel like i owe DS9 and it’s crew major apologies. I sorta refused to watch for a long time because i thought it was too much like Babylon 5 and had watched all the other Star Trek shows besides Ds9 until this last month. I just finished watching all the seasons of DS9 and am blown away by how different it was and how great the actors were. Sisko has become my second favorite captain (after Picard because he was the first captain i ever saw as a kid). But I’m just so stunned they were able to dive deeply into the morality of war, religion and ethics in a way that didn’t feel as by the book like TNG. Voyager was promising and it has a special place in my heart but it’s so silly compared to ds9. The fact Dukat was a nuanced villain sort of sums it to me. With the exception of the last season i found his arc fascinating and important. The way he viewed himself was as a tragic hero. The best quote i heard about him is that “every villain is the hero of his own story” and that was perfect for dukat. Even characters like Nog dealing with ptsd was done in a way that was so different and charming. Ugh! I am so happy i finally gave it a chance!

J.London that’s because the best writer s jumped ship instead of staying on Voyager
@SocialSpit
@SocialSpit 4 жыл бұрын
J.London ds9 is far from b5... people have said ds9 was based on b5 stolen from JMS, but that never happened. In fact, before ds9 was a space station it was a colony. They decided to go with station due to the cost of using locations every week, they also would have had less control at locations. I’m watching Voyager now, I actually backed up and started watching it again it is also done well, especially after they added 7 of 69, and even before that Jennifer Lien had a few great episodes, like Warlord. The “Year of hell“ was literally supposed to last an entire season, but it was axed at the last minute because Rick Berman didn’t want to have an ongoing storyline like deep space nine. Which was a bad decision, so later they actually brought the Borg into Voyager as a repeating storyline which included three appearances of the borg queen, numerous appearances of Barclay and Troi, and some very funny episodes as well like “live fast and prosper”.
@SocialSpit
@SocialSpit 4 жыл бұрын
Dancestar1981 Ronald D Moore actually only wrote two episodes of Voyager and the 2nd episode he wrote, “barge of the dead”, that, was originally part of “soldiers of the empire”. I don’t know why he wrote two great episodes of Voyager and then vanished, maybe because he was getting ready to do battle star Galactica. The rest of the writers, most of them went directly from next generation to Voyager, because deep space nine had already started and for some reason Brannon Braga was never allowed to participate in that show. Oddly, I think “threshold”, is the best story that he ever wrote for any Star Trek series. If you sit back and look at the episode it goes through all kinds of transmutations, starts off being one thing, Paris trying to break a speed barrier and then all of a sudden he’s evolving millions of years into the future and having sex with Janeway haha!

Social Spit It’s been shown to be based on B5, clearly. There’s plenty of evidence for it that’s been presented online. I love both shows, but they’re very much variations on one setup. JMS had presented a pitch for B5 to the powers-that-be at Paramount before DS9 was done, so whatever.

Alaimo and showrunner Ira Behr have an ongoing argument regarding Dukat. Alaimo insists he was a patriot, a war hero and a family man that should have had monuments. He won't accept that Dukat was responsible for the Bajoran genocide. It's quite funny to watch, but that is what mad Dukat great is Marc didn't play him as a villain..

Major Grin At the time using Tony Todd as the elder Jake was a good idea mostly because they are both very tall, however I always considered Tony Todd to forever be Kurn... if they ever do make Blu-ray versions of deep space nine, this is something they should definitely do, provided Ciroc agrees and gets permission from whoever owns Star Trek now. If it were still Rick Berman they could easily set that up, I think Alex Kurtzman pretty much runs Star Trek now and he is more open to using the next generation and deep space nine actors now. I think using them in Picard was a test and if so, it succeeded brilliantly. Except that I was disappointed that they killed off Icheb

Few shows have characters that evolved so much over the course of the seasons -chiefly Dukat, Martok (going from a Changeling, to a PoW to Chancellor) etc. Or the TNG ones: Worf, Gowron and especially O'Brien, going from an unnamed crewman in the TNG pilot and then fourteen more seasons of Trek.

For the new Picard show, what if he was joined by a now 40 year old Jake Sisko...Picard never had a son and Jake lost his dad...what if together they form a bond (Jake knows what Picard did as a Borg - but forgives him)...and together - to make amends Picard helps Jake and possibly Bashir (or a new character who is a scientist), find Ben Sisko...say at the end of Season 1.

That's an interesting point...Sisco swore he'd return. That'd be awesome if the Picard show would address it...but...hell, the current Star Trek showrunners probably don't even know what DS9 is.

JACK ILLER thats what made me come up with the idea of sisko returning. Picard is my all time favorite and im excited for his return that being said since they want to make a tv trek universe with this cbs app they should definitely tackle bringing back sisko
@karlitobandito8385
@karlitobandito8385 5 жыл бұрын
Chicken Bubblegum i always thought it would be cool if sisko was on the defiant during first contact. That way sisko could have his moment getting some revenge on the borg with his ship that was built to defeat the borg and him and picard would be dealing with their differences while fighting borg off on the enterprise and sisko would keep getting ptsd of jennifer dying because of all of the drones surrounding them and being reminded of locutus every time he has to look at picard. I get why he wasnt in the movie and loved what we got. But this would have made one hell of a movie since it would bring the best of both worlds and the emissary in close circle and the two captains could finally have closure

Holy crap! Thats Jake? I was sitting there wondering who it was. Thought he might have been a writer or something. Nice to see him again! Fun fact, I had a great meeting with Gerenal Mortok ages ago on a flight in the US. He couldn't believe that I recognised him without the makeup. We then started talking about business stuff for about 40 minutes. Great guy. We didn't even talk about the show and that is me being a massive fanboy. In fact it was a very strange trip because I had a drink with Randy Coutoure the night before at a LAX airport hotel and during checkin I stood by Chandler from friends who looked at me very strangely (I used to look a lot like Sean Penn) but we never spoke. hehe.

28:03 Time to wake up Rene! 32:58 I couldn't have said it any better. When ever I get over exposed or preached to about a certain issue, I get turned off of the idea. Through these shows, I don't feel like I'm being preached to, so I willingly listen to the ideas being shown.

With most TV shows, it takes a little time to warm up to the characters, or it takes a little time for the writers to find their footing. Star Trek TNG is a good example of that. The first season seemed to be rehashing stories that had been done in TOS. That didn't happen (for me) with DS9. I loved it from the very first episode. I fell in love with the characters right away. I particularly liked Sisko's backstory/ the fact that he entered the series a broken man. I think that the pilot was the best pilot of any series I've ever seen (not just any Star Trek series). I can say the same for the series finale, which is my favorite episode in the series. But (getting back to the pilot) my favorite moment in the whole series is when Sisco is with the prophets watching the moment of Jenifer's death and the prophet(s) get him to realize that in his heart, he never left the Saratoga (ship). It was that moment (more than any other) that really won me over. I HAD to see where his journey would take him.
