"You are Cordially Invited" is so underrated only because it doesn´t have battles or action. It´s as good as lots of Dominion War episodes which have 9/10 ratings all around. From a character deepness level is an awesome episode which is also fun as hell.

Terry Farrell nearly fell over walking in the Klingon wedding boots, when she’s walking down the aisle you notice she slips off to the side a little bit. She mentioned this in the behind-the-scenes for the episode, this is one of the special features of season six on the specific disc the episode is featured on. Jadzia’s right hook was amazing. Martok is literally one of my favourite characters since he was properly introduced halfway through S5, even though we saw the character as a changeling beforehand

Its episodes like this that remind me why Martok is my favourite Klingon. Klingons in general are made out to be more muscle than brain, all barbaric, always thinking of just battle, and somewhat xenophobic in their ways thinking of other races as inferior. Martok on the other hand is a much more complicated character in that sense, as he has a lot of the traditional classic Klingon traits, but he is also understanding and considerate of other races in his own way, he knows how to talk with intelligence and still make it sound Klingon, he knows how to be angry, and how to celebrate, and articulates himself fantastically always. He is a great Klingon, and a perfect example of just how complex the race's mindset can actually be.

I think it's also a prerequisite that all Klingon have awesome voices, lol! Worf, Martok, Kurn, Gowron (He who shall not blink), etc., All have these fantastic voices that would sound cool just reading the phone book, lol!

The actor that plays Martok adds this exhale to many of his speeches like "I'm too old for this shit" is the unsaid subtext of whatever wisdom his about to impart. Martok is kinda a Klingon Guinan!

Sirella is an unexpected hit for me in this one. She's the one stiff, by the numbers guest star forcing us to spend time on boring stuff in an episode full of more personal main & recurring character moments...yet it all makes it SO DAMN EARNED when she interjects in the traditional speech "...not even me." SO HEARTWARMING, love you Sirella, great job Shannon Cochran :) Siddig's delivery of "I am going to kill Worf" was _perfect_ haha. "KILL WORF" became a well-deserved recurring meme on the AV Club comments for the DS9 reviews. Dax & Sisko were adorable, I feel like we haven't seen a bonding moment like that with them in a couple seasons.

.. That's cute. This guy think he has an input in how his bachelor party would be. The Bachelor party is not for or by the person getting married, it's for the friends who have to.. well.. give him away isn't the correct phrase, but accept that they no longer will have him as a friend on the same level because he will have other priorities from now on.. It's entirely for them.. and yes.. That is why bachelor parties SHOULD contain things that the man of the day wouldn't be entirely comfortable with. It fills many rolls, but yeah.. Friends being a bit petty "owning him completely" for the last time is the foundation the rest is built on it.

Ron Moore "speculated" that she actually would've slept with him if Sirella hadn't interrupted, on DVD featurettes. To me that seemed pretty wild to hear about an Honorable Starfleet Officer, and also since Dax so often is the low key voice of calm reason, as both science officer and very old man. But I've sort of come around on it, maybe he's onto something...

The costume and set designers really knocked it out of the park with the wedding. Everything is spot on. I've seen people cosplay those wedding outfits. They're memorable and beautiful. Also, the wedding scene is the perfect length too; not too short where you feel shortchanged and not too long where it drags. Just perfect.

Congrats! I don't think I have the patients to teach, but I've considered it. (I did something almost akin to an adult education class once.) I've heard of people who do the Klingon ceremony in this as more or less their actual wedding ceremony. Part of me maybe doesn't like Dax has to make a bunch of sacrifices and Worf has to...well I'm blanking. Tolerate her more free spirited ways? (She's slept with both males and females, whereas I gather Klingons limit premarital sex to "harlots" kind of like Renaissance Italians.) But it does make sense Trill ways wouldn't be that important to her as part of being a joined Trill seems to be new experiences and learning new things. And Sisko marrying them would feel a bit blah. (It wouldn't for Kira because he's her Emissary, but neither of them are of that faith.) So it's nice to be considerate this way I guess. Not sure the alt-Bareil ep lingered in my mind too much. I do kind of understand the mistake as her boyfriends can be mixed up and Bareil was way earlier. The next one looks to be the one inspired by "Foundation" by Isaac Asimov. I guess it's a TV series on Apple now but I gather that show is way different than the Asimov novels I read. (Some of the changes I get. People get angry at "gender swapping" but all the characters in the first book of the original trilogy were men as I recall. Some of the changes I've heard of seem to undermine important points.)

On any other show, You Are Cordially Invited would be a filler episode but here, it's the best kind of character piece- revealing parts of our main cast that rarely gets seen. The relationship between Odo and Kira is slowly developing and, of course, Dax and Worf get hitched. Resurrection sees another Mirror Universe episode- this one custom made to both give Kira closure and to kinda rip her guts out at the same time. Bariel's death was pretty awful and Kira stayed with him until the end. As to the Mirror Universe, you'd think that the people there would be making raids into the main Trek universe to steal technology or just to escape the grim world of the Empire there. Odo has to deal with the guy Kira loved but lost. Talk about "the guy she says not to worry about"!

I always like a mirror universe episode, but I have to say, I prefer our characters going there more than their characters coming to our side. And the ending, maybe the mirror Bareil should have been killed by mirror Kira? Or even mirror Winn? Regardless, he got off easy and if he talks his way out of it, the Intendant is too soft.
