@@dikdik1313 Only the first two seasons, the third and fourth are actually really good. That was the case with TNG and Voyager where the show doesn't start getting good until it's third season. Except unlike those two, Enterprise didn't get to have three more seasons. It's a shame because season five was going to deal with the conflict between the Federation and the Romulans that was mentioned in the TOS episode, "Balance of Terror." Interestingly, DS9 doesn't have the "first two seasons curse" that TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise have (which explains why many consider it to be their favorite). Neither does TOS, but it is the original so it shouldn't really count since it's first two seasons had to be successful in order for the other shows to exist.

They did a really clever thing when the line "I've got strength of the soul" comes up. They have a man making a footprint on what we can assume is the moon. Feet have soles. Making footprints and moving forward, exploring, etc is all done with the feet. He's got strength of the "sole", if you will. It's a clever (I don't know if it's intentional) double-meaning. The song was already growing on me, but that made me really like it.

Maybe if your a person that likes Star Trek 5 and 7 you're taste is very different from the general taste. But even if Enterprise would have been a well conceived show, it would have been nothing new. We had a single starship in TOS, TNG and Voyager. All what you could have done with that concept had already been done. That is why TNG ended. They simply ran out of ideas. Voyager could have been something like the new Battlestar Galactica. One ship against a whole quadrant, no support, Maquis/Starfleet tension, questioning of Federation ideals in front of overwhelming dangers. But they didn't dare to do that. They seemingly just continued TNG, copying it and build stories that never had consequences for the rest of the arc. Enterprise was just the same. One ship on a journey and because the creators didn't want to take any risks it was just boring. Then, in Season 3-4 they finally realized that they needed to do something and tried building a story arc, a story that made sense and fleshed out the characters. But it was too late. When Enterprise finally became something interesting the damage had been done and nobody was wathcing anymore.
@eey-bee9 жыл бұрын
Rubashow Perhaps all Star Trek needs then is a long break, as in another ten to fifteen years. That was would allow for some of the original ideas to be reused, but also mixed in with newer, more experimental stuff. There'd possibly be a part-new audience then too which would help I'd think.
@Rubashow9 жыл бұрын
Mr.EB Sure there can be a new Star Trek series and maybe it's even a great one. I think Star Trek is very much influenced by positive american sentiments of the 60's-90's. I find the Season 1-2 intro acted more as a prayer, demonstrating the hope they have in humanity's ability to enter the great unknown through their own strength. For that it always had stronger impacted on me, more so than all the other intros of the previous series, TOS and TNG being too campy for my taste, DS9 and VOY fitting the series better, but none having an emotional weight to them. I find that a human voice can add a certain level of weight to music, regardless if its a song like this or a chorus as in the main Prequel themes of Star Wars. This intro, Season 3-4, seems to symbolize a humanity that still hopes for more but, unlike before, there is a sense of comfort in themselves. Rather than praying that all will be as hoped, they now are sure of their abilities and can move forward to meet the challenges that await them, For that i love both intros and the series they represent. Keep on hoping for a better future Trekkers.

This theme is a good over all Star Trek Theme and when it runs I think about how far humanity did go to get to Lorca, Kirk then Picard, Sisko, Janeway, it all started with Archer. It really illustrates what all the crews in this franchise have....faith. I remember the scene where O’Brien and Worf were talking about when Captain Picard was assimilated. O’Brien said it was touch and go but Worf said “I had no doubt we would win” there was nothing we couldn’t do” Or Harry Kim’s Journey Speech on Voyager’s Endgame Kirk “risk is our business” line Each crew had faith in each other. That’s why this song fits with all of them not just Archer.

The most meaningful of all the Star Trek openings, capturing the perennial vision of Gene Roddenberry: there is something decent and noble about humans! Despite our shortcomings and frailties, we don't give up. At times we crawl, commit despicable acts, but we do learn from our mistakes and learn to climb out of the quagmire mediocrity and convenience to the greater heights of moral excellence with fortitude and vision--then, no longer crawling but flying. What was improbable becomes probable; what was once impossible, possible. There is hope for humanity!

For those of you still shitting on this theme or saying it doesn't fit, consider this... Diane Warren said in an interview that they specifically wanted a song like this for the show and not one like any of the previous three. So with that in mind, she decided to write a love letter to all of humanity's achievements and what we hope to accomplish (just like we hope Star Trek becomes our future). Look at this fucking imagery. Listen to those lyrics. It's been a long road, getting from there to here.. It's been a long time, but [our] time is FINALLY here! (the first concepts of near-water travel by Polynesian explorers are shown, the first maps and star charts) [We] will see [our] dream come alive AT LAST! [WE] WILL TOUCH THE *SKY* ! (first of many images of the historic name Enterprise) And they're not gonna hold [us] down no more No they're not gonna change [our] minds! (The Enterprise balloon, The Spirit of St. Luis, Amelia, Enterprise shuttle all with the Mercury-Redstone Launch plans) I honestly start to tear up here... Cause [we've] got FAITH, of the HEART! (The Wright flight, Chuck Yeager in the Bell X-1, Deep Flight 1 with Da Vinci's flight plans and the Iceland shelf map over them!) Going where [our] hearts will take [us]! (Yeager again, Apollo's 11 and 14 crews, along with ignition footage and the maps and trajectory plans we used to get them home, and the first map of the moon) of you're not getting at least getting chills by now, you don't get how any of the Trek captains felt about exploration [We've] got *FAITH* to believe... [We] can do *ANYTHING* ... (The Apollos, Saturns rockets and shuttle program with fuckin Goddard behind the Saturn V) [We've] got *STRENGTH* of the soul... (famous pictures of S5 separation, Drew Feustal outside the ISS, Aldrin's "first footprint", the Lunar Lander) NO ONE'S GONNA BEND OR BREAK [US]! (Pathfinder Sojourner next to Martian rock Yogi, Atlantis Atlantis it's SpaceHAB) [We] can reach *ANY* star! (The International Space Station concept, arguably our greatest symbol of unity in humanity coming down in 8 years and the NASA shuttle orbiter concept) Then we're left with fictional vehicles that still carry weight: Phoenix 1, our first warp vessel, The Luna Landers and Luna Base (which should be our next goal) and finally our X1. Diane Warren, and yeah Russell Watson too, went above and beyond with what was asked. I know for *a fact* the Trek captains would love this theme as much as I do. Is it different than the others? Yes. Does it do what it promises? Amazingly. Is it Star Trek? A hundred percent. I only get mad when I realize, after seeing this, we're never going to do this. I also get mad Discovery technically gets more seasons than Enterprise. TL;DR this theme is masterful and you probably wouldn't be captain if you don't get why.

first two seasons, sad music. third season, millions of people die and they are sent on a terribly grim mission: music gets much more cheerful.

Enterprise made the bold move of showing the foundations of Star Trek lore. It shows a REAL frontier spirit, people fighting to survive and building the tools to keep going. The bold, sweeping orchestral score works for later-set Trek series, because by then Starfleet and the Federation had found its feet. "Faith of the Heart" lends the series the kind of make-do-and-mend attitude that made Enterprise a better series for me.

whats interesting is that the space shuttle enterprise is there, and implied to have been one of the predecessors/inspirations for enterprise's name. But in reality the shuttle was named (sort of) after the NCC-1701

It was a great intro. How can one call him-/ herself a Trekker and dislike a show just because it has a vocal intro? Enterprise was a good show with 96 mostly good episodes

I loved this theme song version over the other one. As a true avid fan of the Star Trek franchise I understand that this theme song fits the summary of this particular Star Trek series. This is the very first time that the human race are venturing into deep space exploration and have overcome Earth's many problems. Faith Of The Heart fits perfectly.

I wish it had more seasons. The ratings were not terrible (especially compared to STD, which got one season more sadly)

This opening makes me Cry because it shows how Humanity has finally reached it's greatest Potential to stand united together with no more borders, no war and no poverty with one goal to Learn and Explore to meet and learn from new civilizations to boldy go where no man/women has gone before.

Being used to orchestral themes it was awkward to listen to a sung song on a ST series at first. I still don't like the first version (first and second seasons) but I LOVED the revamped version for 3rd and 4th. Maybe it is a coincidence but although I have enjoyed the first two seasons the third really hooked me like hell. I like this new trend of TV shows where there is a major thread behind the episodes (like a novel).

@Usul573 Season 3 was an interesting experiment in a season-long arc. Great writing and acting. My only regret is it's all centered around some NEW species. Season 4 was the best. It featured several 2 or 3 episode "mini-arcs" each involving some aspect of Star Trek. We learn how Vulcans got back onto their peaceful path, we see humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites working together against the Romulans for the first time, and a great Mirror Universe 2-parter.

I know trekkies hate this song as its not your "traditional" Star Trek theme, with orchestral type music. However, I felt that it went very well with the theme of the show. Humanity is finally growing it out of it's infancy (a bit of Picard there) and joining the interstellar community, albeit with hiccups along the way. War, bigotry, poverty, disease / epidemics wiped out, 90 years after first contact in Montana between Zefram Cochrane and the Vulcans. This theme is PERFECT to represent the above.

I agree, while its not the star trek theme we all love - it tells the story of Enterprise so well.

It focused on exploration, which is what Star Trek is all about, and not on interstellar politics and conflict, which is what Star Trek isn't about.
