FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Enterprise and its crew follow a Borg ship through a time warp to prevent the Borg from taking over the Earth in a past era. Stuck in the past, Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) helps a pioneer of space travel (James Cromwell) in his efforts to create the first warp drive while Capt. Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Cmdr. Data (Brent Spiner) battle the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) as she tries to take over the Enterprise.

One of the more subtle elements of horror in this scene is the subtle use of putting as many drones into frame as possible. You can see entire lines of them walking down the halls (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="57">0:57</a>). There is never just one drone in view, there always seems to be 3 or more. 2 at the very least. And if there is just one drone 2 or more always appear behind it seconds later (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="41">0:41</a>). As if the room is just flooding with Borg. And right before a scene transition you can always see another drone walk into frame just before the transition (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="50">0:50</a>).

Meanwhile, there were actually only about 12 extras who portrayed the Borg. Every day of shooting they'd try to use different combinations of props and prosthetics to make themselves look slightly different from the previous day of shooting to give the impression there were many more drones than were shown.

If I was a captain, I would always have some melee and gunpowder weapons on board for Borg invasions, since (unless pre-Kurtsman trek has examples) the Borg seem to be mostly adaptive to energy based weaponry.

I can also see the efficiency of firearms against the Breen. Or Iconians, the Dominion, or a wide variety of different adversaries that rely on energy-based technologies.

It’s heavily implied that the Borg can adapt in more ways than one. They can adapt to weapons by recalibrating their shields, and they can adapt to armour by remodulating their weapons. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could adapt to melee weapons or projectile weapons.

Projectile weapons aren't any more effective against the Borg. The only reason why it works later in the holodeck is because they hadn't adapted to it and it was not an expected threat. The personal shields they have can block physical weapons. They're also heavily armored, which is why only Data and Worf have enough brute strength to toss them around in melee combat.

@@chaff5 I'm not so sure they can block physical weapons , recall Piccard telling his men " Fight hand to hand if you have to " . If they can't block a punch or kick it stands to reason they could not block a sword or some melee weapon either .

I don’t know. With Picard Season 3, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds, I feel modern Trek has found its feet after a rocky start.
