I never played MK prior to playing Star Trek Frontiers but have put picked it up since. I enjoy these games. In your demo though, when you played improvise for 5 movement points from the stronger action you used a purple data and had to discard one card to use 4 movement. Alternatively you could've used improvise for its regular basic value for 3 MPs and burned two cards (one to use improvise the other for the fourth MP), then you woul've been able to use the data for the long range attack without using the data from Jen's tactic card but from the data core instead. Then Jen's data would be saved for later in the round. I'm not sure if one is superior to the other (one card two data dice vs two cards one date dice). Enjoy your playthroughs and game overviews they have helped me decide on purchasing (or not) several games.

I don´t usually like these long and heavy games, but Mage Knight is such an incredible game! And this Star Trek re-theme looks really good, even though I know nothing about the series and the universe... But I´m always excited for space stuff haha

Hi Richard! Please make a runthrough video of Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms. The 2nd edition came out in 2011. I'm sure you and Jen will love it because it checks off everything you like. It is light, has very few components flying around, component quality and artwork is amazing, and plays 2 amazingly well (scales well also!)

rahdo, you should really REALLY get hold of Star Trek Fleet Captains. It is probably the best overall Star Trek experience in a board game currently available. It really feels like playing through a season of your own Star Trek series, with each turn feeling episodic. It is not co-op. but, you don't HAVE to ever really fight each other if you don't want to... especially if you pick up the Romulan Empire expansion, as they are much more sneaky and less "GLORY FROM BATTLE!! RAARRRHHH!!!" than the Klingons. :-D I love it. The Trek flavor comes through so strongly in it.

we've played it and yes it's fantastic how trek it is. but unfortunatley, we hated have to go at each other. i desperately long for an official co-op version of this game where both players are federation and are hunted by cloaked ships, rather than one player hunting the other. we only played the base game, and we desperately tried to make it work without direct conflict, but that was basically an all but guaranteed loss for klingons if they weren't battle bound

That is true that the Klingons are very much keyed toward at least SOME player v player action in order to win. I do, once again, have to strongly recommend the Romulan Empire expansion to you. They have much less dependency on combat (about as much as the Feds) and more interest in staying cloaked and performing Espionage missions (which is a whole new type of mission that comes with that expansion to go along with the base set's Combat, Science, and Influence missions). The Dominion expansion is excellent too, but it is kind of that middle ground between Romulans and Klingons. Its less combat heavy than the Klinks, but more so than the Romulans. I urge you to give it another shot with the Romulans included. I think you will be much happier with it. It is still a competitive game, but much more of a race than a battle. Regardless; keep up the great work! Love your videos!!

FYI "Dummy" is rooted in ableism. We tend to call them AI players in our group so as not to offend.

fair point which i hadn't considered. best option is to give them an actual thematic name i reckon, which is definitely becoming the norm now adays :)

Cards should have gotten proper art, not images from the show.

i never understand this argument. it's like saying baseball cards shouldn't have actual pictures of the baseball player...

Demanding original art and not wanting to pay more for games is how we end up with Legendary Encounters: Firefly.
@PencilCase6B8 жыл бұрын
When you create the art you choose the scenes and poses, so the cards' art fits its content well. The Star Wars games from Fantasy Flight are a good example. The art is created to match the thematic flavor and game mechanic of each card. With images, it doesn't always happen. Sometimes you can't find the perfect scene and pose you want for the cards. So characters look like they were cut out of a bigger, unrelated scene (because, they actually were), and other cards sometimes have a random, unrelated image. (All of this doesn't exist in baseball cards, because they are just collectibles, are not part of any game mechanic, and have no game text on them to which they should somehow relate). All said IMHO, of course.

As the absolute majority of games have original art and a cost which gamers are willing to pay, I would say LE:Firefly is just an example for uninspired lazy work.
@rahdo8 жыл бұрын
actually for licensed titles the majority of them do not use original artwork, because that's significantly more expensive. they're already having to pay through the nose for the actor's likeness (regardless of whether they do original art or not), and then to have to pay for costs on top of the licensing fees just doesn't make sense, especially when as often as not they can use existing promotional photos that's been pre-approved by the license holder. another huge cost: time of having to deal with the approval process that can drag on for months if you don't go with pre-approved images that the license holder provides. considering the profit margins for boardgames are almost non-existent, what you're requesting just doesn't make sense and creates too much danger of losing money on the project altogether...
