3:11 because D’ahl is being made to sink or swim, proverbially speaking. Except if he fails he would actually sink, and take everyone along with him. No pressure.

3:24 D’ahl reminds me of Strawhat Luffy from One Piece. His captaining style is along the lines of, “I don’t need to know how to do something because I trust my crew to do it for me.” Like, Luffy’ll order a heading, their helmsman sets the course. Then Luffy does whatever the navigator commands because he can’t walk ten feet without getting lost, never mind sail a ship. It makes for an awesome, if unorthodox for Starfleet, dynamic. Believe it or not, D’ahl’s not as irresponsible as Luffy. Meaning there are plenty of scenarios where the captain and main character is getting comically berated and punished for his reckless decisions. With, you know, fists because they’re pirates.

8:14 the power to the protostar chamber is restored. It can still be on without anything inside.

So...without a protostar it just functions as their warp engine? I feel like last season when Murf ate the protostar the chamber was just shown empty. Am I confused or misremembering? I thought the protodrive was like a separate thing that had nothing to do with their ability to warp. Is what they are showing even the protostar chamber or is this a different thing and we are looking at a warp chamber that just looks similar?
@michaelpapp5518
@michaelpapp5518 Ай бұрын
@@WatchMeWatchStuff the way I saw it was we were looking at the empty protostar chamber, which is a separate system entirely from the warp engine. Power for that set of ship’s function was restored, even though there’s nothing in the containment chamber to contain. Yet. Think of it as the lights are on, but no one is home.

7:15 joking aside, I did have the same thoughts about the mag boots and Murph not being rope again. Too convenient a solution and who knows if the writers even remembered. So I’m just gonna assume the clouds make Murph too slippery to be of use as a rope. Because mumble mumble cause the vapor molecules to adhere to his surface like soap bubbles on porcelain tile.

Lol, it's funny I often comment on stuff like this and people will say I'm being overly analytical. But the truth is I am very easygoing and can forgive things like this if they serve the story. Clearly this needed to be Dal's story arc so he needed to be the one to do the saving. So I really would be satisfied if they just threw in a mumble mumble jargon line about not being able to use mag boots. Or like if the rope that knocked Chakotay overboard also hit Murf and launched him across the ship and he wasn't able to run back in time before Dal dove in and they lost the rope. They might be little things but they can go a really long way to adding logic and realism to a scene. Otherwise the viewer really is left going "yea, the writers conveniently forgot that to move the plot along".

@@WatchMeWatchStuff yuppers. Seems like a correct assessment to me. I always appreciate it when we get that little bit of info, a nugget of dialogue, to let us know the writers were thinking about things like we do. Ha ha!

1:07 can’t avoid it. It’s a catastrophic canon event now. Most of these shows take place around the time it happens. Some mention’s inevitable. You should probably not “stress” out so much. The bad writing that you hate happened. Let the trauma go. Take deep breaths. Have some THC, if that’s your bag. I know it’s mine. Let the pain go. Literary terrorists win every time someone is micro-triggered. Ha, ha, ha! A good writing team can take bad or unfavorable ideas and shine them up. Picard season 3, for example. Made the foundation established by two relatively poor seasons of Star Trek and remixed them into what we all wanted since the start. A TNG reunion of epic proportions. Presented an idea I hated so much, or at least was deeply skeptical of, something not established previously, and made it work. The acting of the TNG cast is…listen, I cried, yo. Several times. Last thing I expected after watching seasons one and two.

THC messes me up. I've tried it a handful of times and it's...unpleasant lol I hear you though. But I'm the type that if I don't voice disapproval I feel like my silence is tacit approval. And THAT feels like letting them win lol I have finished the season now so more such outbursts are bound to happen in the videos. Just know they were filmed before your calming comment just now lol

@@WatchMeWatchStuff oh, I was grinning evilly from ear to ear when I heard that comment. I was kinda hoping to set some expectations so you weren’t completely blindsided. I’m happy to read my comment was taken in a positive way. I really don’t want you to feel it matters one jot at all I think your opinion about a fictional story is wrong. Other than in a friendly discussion/argument sorta context. Ha ha! I never wanna be a guy who pisses on someone for disliking stuff I like.

@@michaelpapp5518 I haven't even reviewed the video of us on the last episode yet. I honestly don't think I even got that mad, just....disappointed. I really don't think I even said much afterwards cuz I was conflicted and couldn't really articulate how I felt. Up to a point the finale was nailing it. Then... yea, we'll discuss that when we get to it. lol Reading comments can definitely be hard to judge tone. And I'm sure in the past I've reacted way too aggressive or defensive to some people. But you seem to understand our tone more than others. Some people really get bent out of shape that David and I nitpick everything, and they don't get we do that cuz we love the source material so much. It's similar to how close friends can talk crap to each other, but understand it's cuz they know each other so well they can joke around or openly call each other out on their bs. I mean, Voyager is my favorite show but if you heard David and I animatedly talk about certain episodes or plots we poke so much fun some people might assume we hate it. Idk, maybe we are just from the OG class of nerd that understood passionate discussion, nitpicking, bickering, and debate is part of the culture of nerd conversation. Now so many people feel that not loving every single second of something means you are a "hater" or "not a real fan". I'm not going to put on fan blinders, and I welcome passionate debate from other fans.

@@WatchMeWatchStuff oh yeah! I hate gate keeping. If a person has only seen Discovery and loves it? They’re a Trek fan. If they liked DSC? I believe there’s a succulent slice of DS9 right there I can introduce them to. If they liked the prequel aspect of it? ENT prequels harder! Maybe they started with and adore Prodigy but are unsure where to go next. I mean, Voyager is obvious. However, TNG exemplifies the hopeful wholesomeness I feel is abundant in PRO. The one thing I can say that’s an undeniable huge success in this modern incarnation of Trek is how many people are going back to check out the older stuff. For me, it’s not “fake Trek” or “real Trek.” It’s “Trek I like and Trek I wish were more aligned with what I wanted”. Not as succinct, but accurate. Like, I’m not in love with Trek 09. Felt like a Star Wars movie wearing a Trek overcoat. Still made my wife want to check out the older movies. Which made her want to see TOS and TNG. Now, we’ve watched all of Trek together. She swooned over heroic Chakotay scenes. For real. Unlikely to have happened if she hadn’t been exposed to the 09 film first.
