This is utterly Re74rded, yet I can't help but giggle. I feel this was the right episode at the wrong time, but.... It's Star Trek. This isn't Kurtzman's Reign of Fucking Terror Star Trek, this is the _actual_ Star Trek where weird is just part of the job! (Though Kurtzman is a producer on this) I mean, the concept is stupid, but its not as farfetched as people make it out to be as strange stories of varying quality were told in Classic Star Trek, too. obviously not scripted by anyone who has knowledge of Star Trek because the Klingons would have had an opera parody (think bohemian rhapsody means bugs bunny) and honestly the other musical bits fell flat because the styles didn't match the characters even if the words sometimes did. At least it was better than Spock's Brain but this type of episode needs to be an anniversary type or similar

"Klingons sing opera" was a good line the first time it was said back in the 90s, but it was pretty tiresome by the tenth time - they're an entire species, they should have more than one genre of music. (This has been a pet peeve of mine for years.) So I'm glad this episode didn't pigeonhole them in the same way. As for the episode as a whole... I think toying with genres has always been a strength of Trek. TOS set the tone here with having some episodes that are clearly Westerns, an episode that's clearly a submarine movie, etc. So I love that SNW is doing the same thing - an ep that's doing Alien, a musical ep, etc. But I totally get if that means some of the episodes along the way are whiffs for some viewers.
