Anson can sing a little so can Ethan. Christina has an album out now, Rebecca is a trained singer and Celia is a Broadway performer. This episode is pure gold. Kirk DID know he had a son "Is that David?" "I did what you asked, I stayed away, why didn't you tell him... why didn't you tell him, about me."

I'd put Anson's can in quotation marks talking about pre this episode XD No offense, but there is some tune called dixie, i believe, he sang in a scene in hell on wheels and my ears hurt. This episode is so good and they all sound fantastic😍But imagine being in the position of Anson ("nothing to do with singing") or Ethan (not quiet thrilled about the idea in the first place) and you have to deliver alongside Christina and Celia. I probably would have freaked out

The line Kirk says in Wrath of Khan was "I did what you asked, i stayed away. So why didn't you tell HIM?" (referring to his son) A lot of people are misremembering that line as "Why didn't you tell ME?" but nope. Kirk always knew. But he respected Carol's wishes to stay away. You'd be amazed how many Trek fans i've seen getting pissed off over that line. But it's hardly SNW's fault. Human memories are unreliable at best. Kirk knew about David, but David didn't know about Kirk. Other than that he's some guy his mother used to know.

@@ZharelAnger as i pointed out (and you can watch in the scene where he says he feels old and worn out to Carol in Wrath of Khan) Kirk knew he had a son. So is that not the TOS timeline either? he said in that movie "why didn't you tell HIM?" to carol. Kirk knew David was his son, but David didn't know Kirk was his father. @@shallowgal462 "Jim Kirk was many things, but he was never a boy scout." David refers to Kirk as someone his mother used to hang around with, suggesting he was possibly around a fair bit when David was little. Its just David didn't know he was his father. Or, as I believe, David simply pretended he didn't know Kirk was his father. We never see anybody actually tell David that Kirk is his dad, yet he goes to him at the end of the film and tells Kirk that he is proud to be his son. I think David always knew, but was ashamed of what he thought his father was (he seemed to have a strong dislike for Starfleet early in the film) and so liked to pretend he didn't know him. But in meeting Kirk as an adult, David came to respect who he was and chose to admit that he was his dad.

Although I think Christina Chong (La'an) and Celia Rose Gooding (Uhura) were the best singers in the cast (they really slayed it!), as far as the arrangements went I really liked how Chapel's and Spock's numbers were musical variants of each other, with hers being the more musically upbeat and his being more in the minor key and sullen. And yeah, everybody needs more singing Klingons. 😄

Kirk did know Carol was pregnant and they had a son. When they meet on Regular One, he tells Carol, "I did what you wanted. I stayed away." So he knew, just like he knew she didn't want him in their lives if he wasn't going to be around. It's one of the reasons he reacts so strongly when he finally does connect with David, because his chance to be a dad was so cruelly snatched away from him.

Fun fact: this episode was inspired by the musical episode that Buffy The Vampire Slayer did back in the day, called "Once More, With Feeling". Like this one, it too was a stellar highlight to that show and, again like this one, found an in-universe way to make it seem logical that the characters would continually burst into song. If you haven't seen it I can't recommend it highly enough.

Kirk did know in the Prime Timeline (Primetime Line?), that he had a sun. In Wrath of Khan, when David ambushes him on Genesis, and he's about to clock him, he asks "Where's Doctor Marcus?". David answers "I'm Doctor Marcus.", the look on Kirk's face tells it all. Then when Carol arrives, he quietly asks her. "Is that David?"

Some of them are probably being auto tuned a bit, but most are probably actually singing that well. Being an actor does involve a lot of voice work, so it actually makes sense that they would be able to sing. Something that a surprising number of Star Trek alumni actually do professionally.

I have been a fan of _Star Trek_ since _literally_ before I can remember; as in, I grew up watching _Star Trek_ my entire life, from a point so young that I can't remember a time _before_ I loved it. I _hated Discovery,_ and I thought _Picard_ was mostly awful until the third season. But _Strange New Worlds_ was basically perfect from the very first episode. They nailed it. _SNW_ both _looks_ and _feels_ like _Stare Trek,_ whereas _Discovery_ both looks and feels like just any old generic 2020s sci-fi show, with generic sci-fi tech with those awful floating blue "holographic" projections floating everywhere, and overwrought emotional melodrama that tries to _force_ viewers to believe the show is weighty and impactful, when it's actually just making the characters cry over the smallest, most ridiculous things, and come off like emotionally unstable teenagers. Picard just had _bad_ writing and awful storylines, but the worst part was the absolutely horrendous pacing and _the worst_ kind of serialized storytelling editing style that I've ever encountered, in which individual episodes were arbitrarily divided up and cut off just based on length, regardless of what point in the story the episode was left hanging. _Strange New Worlds,_ however, remembered that individual episodes of a show _should actually tell some kind of complete story,_ and understands that the way to create a serialized narrative is by threading continuing storyline elements throughout a series of episodic stories. And it actually looks and feels like the same Starfleet organization that I watched in TOS, with emotionally mature and stable officers who behave responsibly and in a proper manner for the positions they hold, and with technology that actually looks like it's connected to what was shown in TOS, just obviouslly shown through the lenss of a much higher budget and modern production capabilities. It _looks_ better than TOS ever did, sure, but it still _feels_ like the same technology, the same bridge of the same _Enterprise._ The _style_ and the _feel_ is still the same on _SNW,_ unlike _Discovery,_ which just used the same generic floating blue holographic display tech that shows up in every other soulless generic 2010s sci-fi shows and movies, and had _never appeared in Star Trek before,_ and somehow had holographic communications tech even though such stuff was said to be _still experimental_ 100 years later when it was used just a few times on _Deep Space Nine._
