There were 2 Voyager probes. Both of which went in vastly different directions. After a few centuries, sure. It might be just about far enough to be near the outskirts of the Klingon Empire. Or wherever they were. I'm not quite sure how enough time passed for the other probe to meet up with a civilization that advanced and that we don't know about in Kirk's time. The timing doesn't seem to quite pan out. I demand a refund.

Headcanon for Klaa: a younger son of a Great House, daddy gave him a Bird-of-Prey to keep him off the bomeworld. Vixis (the female officer here) is a kind of babysitter assigned by daddy to make sure Klaa doesn't bring too much dishonor on the House, but she likes him and indulges him. Their house is also aligned with the Duras because why not? NONE of what I just wrote is backed up by canon, novels, or comics, just something I cooked up. I like his stupid scope too. And his metal hair.

In the 1960s, Pioneer-11 was launched into space, with a Sagan Plate on the side as a message to whatever intelligence would eventually find it, inviting them to follow it home and visit its creators. Three hundred years later, it encountered the Klingons.
@andymac4883 Жыл бұрын
The funny thing is, Pioneer-10 is apparently travelling away from us at about 2 Astronomical Units per year. In three hundred years, it'll be less than a thousand AU from Earth. A thousand AU is less than two-hundredths of a light-year. Either it fell through some kind of funky space-anomaly between then and now like VGER (Voyager 6) and got spat out in Klingon space, or Captain Klaa there managed to get his Bird-of-Prey basically within spitting distance of Earth.

@Paul Mathews but it's also been said that how you win is every bit as important as the win itself. I agree with that, to a point. One of my jobs in the army was training folk to survive an attack by chem/bio type shit. Not a fan of the idea of victory that way. Tactically, i think the cloaks are awesome. If i can shoot you before you are able to see me, i think fair enough. Older space simulation game freelancer was easily modded and my favorite was our cloak that let us fire whilst cloaked. The term "baby seals" was most accurate lol But Worf was always on about Klingon honor and not killing without showing yourself Yada Yada. So a culture that feels that way develops cloaking tech? There's a disconnect there. Ultimately i guess i just hate when a shows writers are that inconsistent. Judging by the response to game of thrones last season, I'm not alone lol

@NACLGames2 жыл бұрын
There's no disconnect. Nobody said it out loud until the last season of DS9 (Ezri Dax), but the Klingon Empire is full of contradictions, mostly revolving around how to maintain their traditional warrior culture while serving other ends. All the shows weren't very subtle about the fact that Klingons more often than not paid lip-service to 'honor' as a form of societal control, and otherwise did what they wanted. I actually thought that was obvious to viewers when just about every Klingon shown on screen other than Worf was a conniving politician, a morally bankrupt mercenary or simply cowards hiding behind platitudes of 'honor' or 'duty'. That's why Martok, who was a character they took great pains to never show in a morally compromising light even compared to Worf, was such a contrast.

The weird thing is, Pioneer 10 would still be well within Federation space a couple hundred years from now, when this movie takes place. In fact, according to NASA, Voyager 1 (which is traveling at a faster speed than Pioneer 10) wouldn't reach the inner edge of the Oort Cloud for another 300 years, and wouldn't exit it for another 30,000. Thus, unless it fell into a wormhole or black hole like Voyager 6 (a.k.a., V'Ger) did in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, that means that the Klingons would have been in our solar system, practically on Earth's doorstep, when they destroyed Pioneer 10. Although, what would be interesting is if, a couple hundred years from now, humanity is able to invent a means of space travel much more advanced than today's technology (maybe even warp drive), trace the flight paths of the probes we sent out of the Solar System (Voyager 1 & 2, Pioneer 10 & 11, New Horizons, etc.), calculate where they would be after traveling for so many years, go retrieve them, and bring them back to Earth to be placed in a museum. To me, that would be a more likely scenario than an alien shooting it for target practice. And that's assuming that the probes didn't collide with something like an asteroid or a comet, or blown off course by stellar wind, shockwaves, or gravitational perturbations within the interstellar medium.
@MichaelLaferriere6 ай бұрын
As nice as it would to see them safe in a museum, I really hope we stay hands off with them. They are our first attempts at making contact off our planet, our first reaches for the stars, a lot of the sweat blood and dreams of humanity in the 60s and 70s went into these and I believe there intent was for them to stay in space. We could always 'visit' them in space, but like a war grave, they should be left undisturbed and deeply respected for what they are.
@astrofan19936 ай бұрын
@@MichaelLaferriere What about refurbishing them, including putting a new power source into them, outfitting them with new communications arrays (assuming we invent something more advanced than traditional radio) and then sending them back on their way again? Or do you think they should just be left as-is? At the very least, maybe place a beacon on them, so we could at least track their locations and their distance from Earth.

I really do not understand the hatred for this movie. It's one of the only times ever that they did actual character development on Spock and McCoy (and the Kirk-Spock-McCoy friendship). We see Spock's shame at being half-human. We see McCoy's regret over his father's death. We see the 3 men choosing to spend their time off together to bond. Plus it's the only movie ever made with a Sean Connery planet.

You're right. FF has many faults -- mostly in execution -- but plays hard on the power trio, and the overall story is pretty sound as Trek goes. Of course, Kirk was driving the show as Director,etc. The funny thing was that he blames much of the show’s failure on under-funding! 2 of the most popular Trek films were those with the lowest budgets. I don't get the thumbs down on Star Trek V. I thought it had the best opening theme of the 6 TOS movies. I liked this bridge more than the Star Trek VI version. Did this movie suffer from the mistakes of a first-time director... yes. The goofy shot in the turboshaft flying by deck 78 3 times would have been caught otherwise. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of the vitriol against the movie comes from the dislike of TOS going toward the religious frontier with a GOD planet. TNG knew religion was a sore subject... they pretended religious cultures didn't exist in their travels for 7 seasons... left that for DS9 to try. My biggest problem is with the budget. It clearly shows that Shatner had less to work with that Nimoy had for his two turns in the director's chair. On paper, it might say it wasn't cheaper than Undiscovered County or Generations. On the screen, I wonder... exactly where did this budget go? The Enterprise-A looks like a ghost town. Maybe location shooting in the desert was the expense. The special effects did not measure up to II, III & VI. But the movie was more efficient and sprinkled with more humor than The Motion Picture. Star Trek: The Motion Picture because calling that Star Trek 2301: A Space Oddessey might be too on the nose...

I wonder if the actor playing this Klingon captain knew he was making garbage as well as shooting at it?

This is honestly one of the worse movies ever made. I love trek... I love Klingons (I actually understand some of the klingon I'm that big a nerd)... but until STD this was the worse bit of Trek made. I would watch the TNG episode Code of Honor 3 times in a row over watching this.

It was very entertaining, but full of errors. It was directed by William Shatner.
