As you'll often find with people who suffer from mental illness or trauma, the truth of what actually happened in her life or on the show will never be known. Even after her colleagues are allowed to "tell the true story" in this time, you'll find that they blame her for the problems she had or that others had with her. The truth is much more complicated, and the only people who know those details are her and the people who were personally involved. As someone with much experience in the area, there is no such thing as a person who just "decides to become a drug addict one day." There is always more going on behind the scenes and most of the time the other people and/or outside forces involved are never accurately accounted for.

I volunteered with NAMI for over 15 years, teaching a 12-week family education class on mental illness and how to be effective at helping an ill loved-one. I pray she got the help she so obviously needs. Mental illnesses are not character flaws - they are real biological conditions that, unfortunately, carry a ton of stigma because of how they are - out of ignorance - portrayed in popular culture. One thing I learned for sure in those 15 years is that mental illness doesn't discriminate. It can strike any family - rich poor, black, white, Democrat, Republican - doesn't matter.

I personally think the causes of Mental Illness are more psycholicial and Spiritual I think Trauma especially Childhood Trauma plays a big part. I also think like Addiction and Alcholism there is a big Spirutal component to the problem.

@@HoldenNY22 I personally think that "some" mental illnesses may be as you describe, but some are known - for a fact - to involve actual biological and physical differences in the brain. The brain is just an organ and can be sick like any other organ in the human body. We lump a lot of illness into the basket called "Mental Illness" and many of them, like Schizophrenia and BiPolar are very real biological illnesses.
