You should compare the more recent FFG models to the Star Trek ones; I was so impressed when I first saw the providence carrier and invisible hand; they were made at the peak of FFGs ship production.

I really liked the quality of miniatures in Armada and I think that was one of the prime reasons I got into the game ( I never played miniatures before), that quality I think brought a lof gravitas to the game, made it legitimate. That goes same for the FFG produced mats, I think they really improved gameplay both visually and touch wise. As for the question, how would I feel if the ships had lower quality paint job or build even it has nothing to do with the gameplay, well I don't think I would be happy about it, I think it would make the game look and feel cheaper, not worthy enough for an admiral to sit by that table :) Some of you might argue ( rightfully so) with lower quality plastics and paint job, the game could be %50 cheaper and it would be more main stream (and not cancelled). That is true but I think this game pulls people from playing computer games to board games and I think initially FFG found the right visual presentation and quality for their ships. edit:typo

The only thing I would have been disappointed in would be if Into the Unknown was of similar quality to Attack Wing or Alliance. I’m very happy with the quality of the Star Trek models, the different plastic makes me more confident that the more delicate Federation ships aren’t going to break during transport or use.

I am new to Armada your videos got me into it I am a big Star Wars ship nerd. I have purchased 2 starter sets and am building up an empire and rebel fleet and have got several more ships & squadrons for each I am so bummed they shut it down as it is harder and way more expensive to get all the ships I want off eBay’ but I love it and will continue to build my fleets. Love your armada videos. I know people probably ask you for videos all the time and that could be annoying I am sure’ but I would love too see you do another newer ship rankings on the rebels and empire as your last one was like 7 years ago and did not have all the ships and would like too see if your opinions have changed since then. But regardless thanks for the armada videos and look forward to more. Also aren’t they coming out with 1 more balancing update?

Wouldn't it be amazing if the IP license went to Whiz Kids?? Who hired a bunch of former FFG people to make Into the Unknown? They could get the band back together again!! Maybe even recapture some of that magic lighting in a bottle!

It blows my mind that AMG said they couldn't make money on painted ships while Wiz Kids starts a similar Star Trek game. People were buying Arquitens on the secondary market for so much that AMG could easily have tried to increase prices before just ending the game. If AMG can relaunch Legion in hard plastic I don't understand why not take a different approach with Armada and X-wing (different plastic, sprue, unpainted, whatever). Wiz Kids does have a ton of experience doing "affordable" pre-painted minis with Heroclix. I found the consistency of their heroclix quality control to be poor, but for the price I didn't complain. AMG must have had a reason. Maybe it was that they felt they had already made the best selling content and didn't want to try lesser known ships (not that I agree with that, but maybe they thought it). Maybe they want to launch a new game, like the ground game went from Imperial Assault to Legion to Shatterpoint. We may never know but it does leave me shaking my head. I don't buy the blanket statement that pre-painted minis can't be profitable though.
@garethholman105042 минут бұрын
I think they just aren't interested in ship games, they pulled the trigger on X wing too. They seem to only like a very narrow style of gameplay, effectively take and hold objectives with a focus on heroes. Such a shame they don't really have the diversity to develop other styles of gameplay.

I would have loved for Armada to continue. There are so many ships we are still missing. I wouldn’t care about the type of plastic they used.
@NotADoctor8289 сағат бұрын
With regard to paint quality, I think it’s important to remember that Star Trek ships are shown with clean and gleaming hulls. Star Wars ships are dusty and worn.
@evanrice9166 сағат бұрын
I’m guessing they went with the softer plastic for durability. Probably to protect against drops, bumps, and bending. Especially with how thin those Star Trek models are in places, if those ships you were bending were made out of harder Armada plastic they would have broke for sure.

Nice comparison again - both great games and both produced differently with different styles of paint scheme. Tbh I think we were spoiled with the pre painted and production quality of armada … and it’s tainting views of Star Trek ITU. Always ask myself - would I buy it again. For me it’s a yes for both games… and I will buy more ITU

So I worked for a company that did manufacturing and importing from China of molded plastic products. The materials cost is negligible at that scale. The real issue is in the manufacturing process and molds. Time on line, re-tooling, etc is what costs the actual money. They can’t just run enough to justify the out lay in cost

I think that if Armada would have offered unpainted models, it would have drastically reduced the price point. Also, it's fun. I've been getting a number of resin prints from various Etsy stores and doing the painting myself and having a blast with it.

At this point everyone who was in the game before it was canceled has either sold of or scrambled to get what they want and the future will be hopefully ONE consolidated area/discord where new ships will be made and designed with 3d printeble STL's. No one's going to touch Armada as it is now. Now what I can see happening is smaller size Epic scale reboot but that would be about it (half the size and increasing fleet size). But at that point you'll have issues with the squadrons and their size and some size discrepencies should be accepted to make it work. The problem I have with Star Trek is that they look like TOYS where Armada's has the MODEL feel to it. (mostly painting detail and crispness, plus it looks cheap on a first glance)

Crabbok I totally understand your argument for keeping Armada going, and it's especially puzzling when you have Star Trek in your hands. I think Shick did not have the same relationship with the manufacture of Armada/Xwing that FFG did and they was not going to get the same deal since AMG would just be working with that manufacture to produce small batches for two games. If the above is true then what a disappointment, I don't think Shick understood the weight of his decision, not having a Starwars space ship game is just weird. If I was doing AMG financials I would of probably said lets cut in run but in the same breath I would have expected Shick to say your fired.

My only hope is that ST:ITU will bring us ships that we'll likely never get from attack wing (is it dead?), like the Cerritos! I'm not sure how I feel about the scale, that's going to get crowded on a 3x3

I actually think the more pliable plastic material could have been better for Armada/X-Wing. Smaller parts/pieces were a little too easy to break.

In all honesty, if I had the money I'd hunt down Evee ship for all the games (X-wing, Armada, Attack Wing, Alliance, and Into The Unknown). Hell, I'd gladly take a version with unpainted PLA minis if it were more affordable, but that's not happening. Alas, I need food and shelter so I'll likely miss out on most of it.

If AMG really cared about the game they would have found a way to make it work. I cancelled my pre-order for the ST core box a while back because it was taking so long to come out. Although I recently pre-ordered the individual galaxy class because it looks cool and they ship to canada again. I heard negative things about ST into the unknown regarding the time commitment to learning the rules. Waiting to see if they have dumbed down rules or maybe a different core box as I would have preferred Klingons or Romulans to the Dominion.

Wizkids miniatures always tends to be of slightly less quality than other brands, but still playable. I've played HeroClix for years. The quality of those miniatures constantly went up and down.
@jordanbeard66879 сағат бұрын
I'm pretty sure that the cost of making more miniatures had very little to do with them abandoning the game. The majority of costs in game development is in the design, testing, and advertising aspects. They didn't feel that there was enough market to continue no matter what they produced. It's sad and I think they're wrong, I think Armada was actually just coming into it's stride. But I'm biased.
