A lot of people will counter that though with "but Star Wars as a universe wasn't established yet, now it is so we do need a backstory!!", which is just a copout excuse to complain.

@@SolarDragon007 yeah I guess so. But to me it makes perfect sense, and ties into the overall journey of darth Vader, Joseph Campbell's hero's journey, and many common themes in fairy tales. The prequels symbolized Anakin's metaphorical descent into the underworld, Palatine represented the ultimate evil or the devil himself as George Lucas put it, and Vader's suit represents the death of Anakin Skywalker and his arrival in hell/the underworld as he lives in constant agony as he wears it. And his wife Padme literally dies because she is unable to live in a world where her husband is not, which is a common theme in fairy tales where the wife of a fallen Knight/hero follows their husband into the underworld, symbolizing how evil killed the good side of the man. Then the originals were about the son of the fallen parents trying to pull the father's lost soul back to the physical realm, represented by Luke removing Vader's mask, and Vader sacrifices himself to save his son, which is the crossing of the third threshold in the model of the hero's journey. Now the Sequel trilogy is the final steps which includes the theme of resurrection or rebirth after the hero sacrifices himself which is what Kylo Ren represents. The way hero's journey ends is with the hero accomplishing the goals that he set out to achieve, and the story coming full circle, which for Anakin were to become a Jedi, free the slaves of the universe, return to his mother again, and bring balance to the force (not by just defeating the sith as we know the Jedi were wrong about that, but by bringing an end to the cycle of good and evil in the universe). So Rey represents Padme dying and entering the underworld (as symbolized by her entering the escape pod which was designed to resemble a coffin, and descending down into Snoke's ship which now represents hell, to separate him from the devil) and then the scene plays out as follows: Anakin: "I am more powerful than the Chancellor! I can overthrow him!" Kylo Ren: Kills Snoke, as Anakin wanted to kill Palatine, which also represents him detaching himself from the source of evil in his life Anakin: "And together you and I can rule the Galaxy! Make things the way we want them to be!" Kylo Ren: "It's time to let old things die. Snoke, Skywalker, the Sith, the Jedi, the Rebels; Let it all die. Rey...I want you to join me. We can rule together and bring a new order to the galaxy!" Padme: (beginning to cry) "Anakin.. You're breaking my heart. You're going down a path I can't follow!" Rey: (beginning to cry) "Don't do this, Ben. Please, don't go this way." This moment brings the whole story if the saga full circle. Now all that's left is for Rey to heal internal wounds of Kyli Ren so that they can finally bring balance to the force together. Then Kylo Ren can return to him mother (or at least I assume that's what would've happened before Carrie Fisher passed away) and free the Galaxy and the stormtrooper slaves that were taken as children. I get why people don't like this story, but to me as someone who grew up never knowing the difference between the prequel trilogy and the originals (to me it was just episodes 1-6) this would be a very satisfying ending. I know people like the ending of return of the Jedi, but even as a little kid it always felt kinda dumb to me since dark side world eventually just return again anyways and Luke's Jedi order would probably fail like the Jedi from the prequels (which I totally called since I was like 10 years old 😂) I know it's not perfect. Honestly I wish Snoke gas never existed since Vader already killed his Devil, but overall it makes a lot of sense to me.
