The Command & Conquer remake from 2020 was done perfectly. Both C&C and Red Alert, plus all the expansions. Graphics were updated, with an option to switch from old to new and back in-game with just a button press. Sound was also reworked, tons of extra content added. The only thing they couldn't do was revamp the cut-scenes. And to top it all off, they only asked 10/15 € for it (IIRC). Pity they didn't carry this through to the rest of the franchise. I'd love to (re)play Tiberian Sun in 4k.

Then EA claimed they'd heard feedback from the banality of this first remake and then went WORSE for the second one. It's even worse. Depending on how exactly their contracts with the shareholders work, it could be *illegal* to not do it. You're actually legally required to churn out as much money for shareholders as reasonably possible, and if the economics math tells the analysts that they COULD have charged 40 and made more money, it might not even be legal to make it 20. This is why I absolutely hate this concept. It adds almost nothing of value to our economy and just keeps ruining cool things.

This sloppy release makes business sense because SW Battlefront has so many old school fans that it was guaranteed to sell a good amount of copies. These companies probably use an algorithm to determine if something like this gets released because if they cancel it they can declare it as a loss against their taxes. So if it is a popular property, they can release it in a minimal state with minimal servers, sell the first wave of copies before word gets out and possibly break even/make a small profit. If it was some original IP it probably would have been cancelled. It is a very cynical way of doing business.

The people who decide to release unfinished broken product don't care that it destroys the company reputation, because they're in management positions. You can't go down from management. If you come to any company that's looking for a manager, all you have to do is say you've been manager in another company, doesn't matter that you ran it to the ground, you immediately go back to management position. Helldivers 2 had crazy server problems at launch because its a much better game than anyone expected. BF Classic collection has crazy server problems at launch because Aspyr is run by people that hate us. I know which of those I'm giving my money to. I'm always surprised when people get excited for things like this that so obviously have no chance of being any good. But then I remember that most gamers are some of the dumbest, most gullible people on Earth, and it makes sense. Because only an idiot would be excited to pay $40 for a significantly worse version of something that's been available on Steam forever, costs half as much, and still works fine with a bit of modding. Its an utterly lazy port. Aspyr are usually ok at this kind of stuff but this is straight up crap. My personal no evidence take is that this is an Embracer problem. Everything they touch turns to junk. Countless layoffs, so much IP sat wasting away. An entire group put together to get a huge Saudi investment that never came meaning they had no plan for what to do with any of it. I know the developers will take flak (and should) but theres got to be some kind of problem with funding or cutting corners. Nobody funding servers, pressure to chuck the game out to earn any cash at all. Saber have dodged a bullet getting out and i feel sorry for all the developer casualties that have happened already and will keep on happening.
