I'm 100% for emulation, but in this case emulation isn't even necessary. The original two battlefront games where already working perfectly on steam, all they needed to do was get the steam versions running on the other consoles. The fact that they couldn't even do that right is incredibly disappointing.

Unless they shut down the classic servers since this tire fire released, they should still work on the OG games on pc. At least, they were still up about a month ago when I last played. Such a waste of money, this collection… Edit; just checked 05 battlefront 2, dozens of servers with hundreds of people still playing. Got in a game in less than 2 minutes from launching.

For me, I enjoyed the Classic Collection on PS5 simply because of the offline modes. The addictive gameplay was what made me want to continue playing. Although I never played online multiplayer, I'll definitely be playing offline until Aspyer fixes all the issues with multiplayer.

Obviously a bad purchase for steam without huge improvements. That being said, its almost completely worth it for ps/switch. The online actually has been working perfectly fine on switch since launch (for sure not on my ps lol) but either way, its the first time we can play either on current ps or nintendo and the offline modes (splitscreen and galactic conquest) do work really well. (The cutscene issue for 501st journals has fortunately not plagued my pkaystation copy somehow)

But as of right now, some of the PS2 online games, including the ones that I mentioned above, have been revived through private servers. We use OpenSpy. It's an alternative to GameSpy. There are tutorials on how to connect to PS2 online through console and emulator. There's also a Google spreadsheet list on which games that currently work through OpenSpy.

What a shame, one of my favorite memories was going over to a neighbor's home during the holidays and getting an opportunity to play this game on his PC with some of the other kids there all taking turns when someone died. This was such a fun game and its sad that this is what has happened with a re-release of a pivotal game from my childhood. I ended up getting my mother to get me the PS2 version so I could play it.

As a console player who doesn’t like multiplayer, this is still worth it for me for instant action and galactic conquest alone. I have the old version but it hurts my eyes to look at 480p. For PC tho I completely understand that this ain’t great, especially with the fact that the original costs less and you get mods. But if you’re a console guy and don’t like multiplayer this is still worth a buy.

When playing Galactic conquest or the campaign, it seems very buggy and every single bot is targeting you with all their firepower and hitting you nonstop making it harder to complete missions. Plus their are times where the map bugs out and there are these random black things that block your vision at some points

Yes but for vastly different reasons. The servers for this game didn't work AT ALL on launch besides the 3 servers for 64 players available. Even with the full servers now being used there are incredible issues. Helldivers 2 'not being able to get in the game' was because the game ended up selling exponentially more copies than anyone could've anticipated and they had to cap the servers to 400,000 concurrent players, which is now resolved.

Honestly? I never played this online before. I always played offline with friends and bots. That's how Im gonna play it now, so I have no issue.

I unfortunately pre-ordered the classic collection on switch out of excitement. When I played it offline, the game was running fine at first, but then it gotten buggier and jankier over time. Luckily managed to get a refund from the "collection".

The fact there is an option for "Pre-order" for a game that's 20 years old!!!? Are you actually joking. That already makes me suspicious. Not only they did not deliver what people loved about it but messing it up more. I will never understand that. I do agree with your point - if you know it is not gonna work properly or pay a homage well, do not even do it. We went from new games being broken upon release because of developer laziness to now having developers who are given the task of taking a great game that already exists touching up a few small things on it and releasing it for new consoles and somehow they still mess it up unbelievable

being frustrated or disappointed is fine but in my opinion the response to this release is not proportional at all to the actual quality of the game. i have sunk countless hours into the original, unlocked the permanent bonuses for all classes, etc, so as a battlefront fan i’m saying that this really isn’t that bad. every game that has online features, literally every single one, *will* have problems that simply could not have been accounted for until launch. apparently aspyr had more than 3 servers, but for some reason players could only see 3 of them on their lobby lists. single player is functional still, and as a mostly single player user i’m not really affected. i have my own annoyances of course, but the overwhelmingly negative reactions to this release are completely non-proportional.

It needs some minor fixes. More stability online, better settings on their Aspyrer servers, and they need to add invert Y axis back into the control settings. For those of us that played this back in the day, the online game play is totally fine and even better than I remember.

A few years ago disney did get a company (don't remember who) to officially bring back the OG battlefront 2 servers back and they are probably still running but i haven’t gotten to check lately

The best thing about all this is that the steam releases of both battlefield 1&2 STILL HAVE DEDICATED COMMUNITY SERVERS. Literally nothing was lost. You can still play the OGs online NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Regardless I’m still fuming about this.

Please represent us Split Screen enjoyers! I had my siblings over to play this with me, and we couldn't make it work. Not only is it limited to 2-Player Split Screen, but we weren't even able to sign in a second player on XB1. WE NEED 4 PLAYER SPLIT SCREEN! IT ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE.

To correct in one point. The online servers for the PC version of steam are still up. So that means you can play online with your friends or random people. Even modded servers exist.

You cant even select a conquered planet in Galactic Conquest in the PC version, which means you wont be able to purchase a second fleet! I tried every button to highlight a planet, no button exists. When I plugged in my controller to my computer, I was at disbelief that I can actually select a planet and purchase a second fleet. So they neglected the PC controls for the Galactic conquest map. What a let down, I prefer PC controls over controllers, so this is a massive disappointment.

Battlefront 2 was and still is probably my most played game of all time and deservingly so. The OG was respectful to the material, put you into the worlds and planets you battled on and had great gameplay for its time. To have a rerelease that plays on nostalgia and is somehow worse than the original is a slap to the face to all the consumers. PSN won’t even give me a refund on top of that
