The old game X-Wing had a more intense trench run than that.

Mostly because the R2 unit boosted the speed up to 900 (were a max of 150 with an X-Wing were normally possible) and you had to evade installments and fire from laser turrets in the trench. The high speed made this very hard to pull off. The exhaust port was shielded with another huge amount of turrets, plus the high speed gave you a very small window to aim correctly and hit the port. Most of the time I either missed or got ripped apart by those lasers prior to make a shot. It was very intense.

It depends on what you want most out of either viewpoint. 1st person might offer a more real, cinematic experience, but 3rd person is probably better in terms of gameplay, because you get a much wider view of the battlefield.

+Dwin this is non-sense, what are you talking about too easy? There was supposed to be AA fire everywhere, which would hit friendly targets as well. That's why they took the fight to the trench because it was somewhat "safer". But if you slowed down, you died from all the AA fire. You're the only one not using your brain. The Gamecube version got it right because it was just like the movies. Everyone racing in a tiny cramped space. Also, it wasn't even a straight line because it had a lot of bits sticking out that you had to dodge. .-.

Eh the gamecube one was fun... but only fun to play once and then leave it for a few days before coming back. This can be played more than once. Not only that, yeah, the gamecube version was the accurate one (plus some bridges added in to make it more interesting). We don't need another accurate one.

Christopher Stanley You do realize the Rogue Squadron one came out back in 2001? That is a LONG time ago. So I think another more accurate depiction of the Deathstar would be nice for this current generation. If they were going to do this they should have made two versions, Classic campaign Deathstar where it is more or less a straight trench with a lot of AA fire, and then the Dogfight version where you can casually fly around and battle each other without the fear of being shot down from AA. As it stands now, he was flying REALLY slow with 0 squad support and was able to get the kill shot in one try.... that's not right.... I understand other players in the actual game will be trying to shoot you down, but this was WAY too easy. This new version is wrong on too many levels.

The only trench run that had a really fast pace, hence most realistic and close to the movie, was the one from the first X-Wing game in 1994

As far as I remember it was split into three separate missions: in the first mission you had to clear all enemy npc's, in the second one you had to clear some laser turrets to prepare for the third one, the actual trench run. The last mission also had npcs in it, but you were able to outrun them when entering the trench. The R2 unit boosted your speed up to 900 (from the normal 150 you could reach at max with the X-Wing), so you were VERY fast, still had to evade installments inside the trench plus fire from laser turrets until you reached the end were you had to aim your torpedos on the small exhaust port, that was installed horizontally in front of you, not vertically in the ground. Then all you had to do was to pull out and enjoy the end sequence. It was rather hard to pull off and I had to attempt it multiple times, because the huge installment of laser batteries at the end often ripped my X-Wing into pieces.

I remember when I did this some 3 or so years ago. I successfully did the trench run as luke, it felt fantastic and younger me was just ecstatic. It’s unfortunate they no longer have this in BF2.

I don't like it when they mess up such an iconic scene. I know for gameplay purposes they have to change stuff from the original films but the Trecn Run is such an iconic scene it feels terrible when they do drastic changes like this one. IMO it should have been: first half this gameplay, THEN second half (or maybe a bit less) the original trench run like in the film.

Honestly it's still good enough for me. The original Battlefront 1 and 2 did not have anything like that. They had interior death star but both didn't take the opportunity for an "attack on the deathstar" mode

Well, I wasn't talking about combat. I meant the actual running of the trench. The third person camera makes it so that your ship goes around the corner first, then you actually see where you're going. First person might improve that.

I would guess the update itself will start rolling around at Midnight Pacific on PC. PS4 should follow next, and then Xbox. I'd guess the consoles will get the update roughly within four hours of PC, if not earlier. The Death Star content will probably be available later. Outer Rim dropped (after its update) at 5am/6am/7am PT for PC, PS4 and Xbox, respectively. Bespin was available at 6am/7am/8am for PC, PS4 and Xbox, respectively. I'd guess the Death Star will follow a similar timeframe.
