Well done. A tip on weathering (from Adam Savage) is to mist some water (with a spray bottle) on the surface to be weathered. This keeps the paint "alive" for longer and allows the weathering to be built up using more subtle layers. Looking forward to version 3, and more videos on the Hulkbuster suit.

+Steelmage99 yes with weathering less is definitely more. your washes where not really washes, they were mixed paint. a lot thinner you can build up to a darker shade easier than trying to wipe off excess and make it lighter

this video is INVALUABLE. all your build videos are simply the best produced, and most insightful build logs ever. for a beginner builder like myself, watching all these series has not only shown me the potential of my 3d printer, but it shows a workflow! which is the one thing almost no one shows. seeing HOW you do the work, not just the work thats done is so incredibly important to me. thank you James sincerely

looking good. try using really thinner watered down dark colurs first to bring out the low spots and edges where dirt builds up, then dry brush lighter colors only onto the edges of panels and high spots where scratches would happen. you want really thin wash then slowly build it up.

I've found that the key to good weathering is to just cover the whole thing and let the paint naturally collect in the hard to clean spots as you wipe it off, rather then trying to target the weathering in specific areas. Otherwise it looks very nice, good job James!

Try applying weathering detail with a disposable diaper. I know it sounds kind of ridiculous but the large surface area, concavity, texture, and moisture absorbing material actually makes it perfect for the job.

James not sure if you already know but I think you'll get much better weathering results on a gloss finish, the 3D printed surface looks like it has a matt / satin finish.

Very nice :) I enjoyed watching the project and I'm looking forward to the next. About the paint: I always do brown as a bit of black+lots of yellow+a bit of red, because the red makes the color a bit warmer and less 'swampy'. However it turned out looking good anyway, imo!

Use Oil based paints to get a cleaner "dirt" look. They get into crevices easly and whip off surfaces cleanly. Down side is it takes up to 3 days to dry completely. Acrylic paints dry to fast and don't like to spread smoothly. They are best used for dry brushing.
@pobbrett32449 жыл бұрын
baby wipes are great if you've over added dry brush buggies are really damp pampers are dryer you can still knock it back as long as you haven't sealed him yet with clear coat

I used a wet paper towel with some brown shades of paint when I weathered my mass effect helmet, I would recommend suing using more water in your application, it helps to apply the dirt on in finer layers. Adam Savage, over on Tested did some really good videos on weathering.

V3 already started...the hype is through the roof! Also great job finishing it up. It looked pretty cool in the last video driving around all clean with the weird unfinished "eye" but now it looks like the BB-8 we all love :). I'm also curious to see if you'd ever make other versions that aren't actually BB-8. I got some "adult coloring pages/books" (I guess it means they're more detailed?) and colored R2-D2 to look like BB-8 and BB-8 to look like R2. They actually look pretty sweet! It'd be cool to see BB-8/BB droids in other colors like red, blue, and green :).
