Robyn, I have enjoyed watching your tutorials. This is a great cake! About the paint...I noticed the fondant looked a little wet when you started, probably from condensation. May want to let the condensation dry out before painting. Another suggestion is if you don't want to use liquid paint, lightly rub Crisco/Trex on the parts you want silver and dip your big fluffy brush with silver dust & apply to the cake. Regardless...fantastic job! Look forward to your next tutorial.
@TheRobynsNest4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was a little pressed for time on this one. I didn't super chill my cake but I did chill it long enough to crust the frosting and apparently that was just long enough to create that dang condensation. It was super hot in my house if you notice my frizzy hair, that cake made a lot of trips to the fridge as a result, hence the heavy wetness before I painted. I typically prefer to use dust over paint, but I ran out, this stuff wasn't the best but I think it gave it a cool brushed steel effect. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching 🥰

What did you use for the final black paint? Diluted gel food coloring?
@TheRobynsNest3 жыл бұрын
Yuppers, and I just use water to dilute
@bethstophel83443 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great Video, may I ask what you used to color the black in the front of the Helmet
@TheRobynsNest3 жыл бұрын
Just a little bit of watered down black food color. I would suggest diluting it with spirits or an extract so it dries a bit quicker.

Great tutorial. Had one question, how did you get it to have the lean? Did you put the tops a little more towards the back?

Thank you! Nope, I just stacked it straight and carved a little off the front.

Awesome I’ve been looking for a Mandelorian tutorial. One thing, how did you make your stencils? Thx
@TheRobynsNest4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!🥰 That's a great question! I found a good image online that gave me multiple views from all angles. I then blew them up and traced them right off my computer screen. If I could give 1 tip it would be to double check your stencil after carving the cake and putting it together. I had to modify mine a bit to make the front portion work, I had a little bit of trouble with that part.

@TheRobynsNest3 жыл бұрын
Apologies but there is no link or printable stencil. I wish I could help but the ones I had, I made by hand and they were a one use type deal. They also required modifications as I progressed. The best advice I can give you is to find some good pictures of the helmet from all angles and trace the components straight from your computer screen. I do this often right on my laptop. Sry I couldn’t be of more help but I hope this gets you started in the right direction! Hoping to invest in a scanner soon so I can start attaching the files right in the description.😁

Love this cake! I’m going to attempt to make it but with buttercream, any tips on how to achieve the mandalorian look with buttercream?
@TheRobynsNest4 жыл бұрын
Oh, I'm not entirely sure! That would be challenging for sure to say the least. I'd say flexi smoothers will be helpful and perhaps some clay carving tools. I would apply a few layers of thick buttercream and freeze it then carve it maybe🤔
@TheRobynsNest3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I should give this another go but in buttercream 🤔☺️
