As a kid, I loved the little dungeon under Jabba's dais- I never thought that it was a stand-in for the Rancor pit, just an extra prisoner dungeon. For me, getting put in there was an extraordinarily cruel punishment; a few hours living in the filth directly below Jabba's girth, and you'll WISH he had dropped you in the Rancor pit for a quick death! :D

I only had three original toys as hand me downs from my older brother ... a speeder bike which was cool and still got its flaps, a B Wing pilot in which I often turned his head cause I thought the back of the helmet looked like a droid .... and then .... General Madine .... yeah ... hmmmm. At least I had the bike and the pilot.

Your videos are great and I really like your channel, but could not disagree more on this. The Max Rebo Band is outstanding. Some of the most unique and fascinating character designs imaginable. There are plenty of action characters, not every single character needs to be front and center in the action. As a kid I remember dying to get this set and never lost interest when I finally got it secondhand in my teens. Also o absolutely hate it when a character is drawn in the background art. It takes away from the realism of it being a "background". On a side note your Rancor Pit concept is spot on!

For me, the Max Rebo band always went down in the initial shootouts. Usually, my Cobra soldiers would shot them because they got in the way.....

I really liked the fact we had the Rebo Band. All part of that world building. Gave me the figures to recreate the palace, along with the aliens they released. All in all, I was glad to have em, the Jabba playset, and the Rancor.

Agreed, that's one of thing things I liked about the Star Wars figures, you could bet that even characters who were only in the background or had just a scene or two to themselves were represented. The Max Rebo band was released again in the POTF2 line, and while we could have done without the extra members, they were pretty cool as well (only nitpick is that there are no peg holes in their feet so you couldn't use stands - but in all fairness, they didn't really need them.)

One feature people don't seem to notice about the Kenner Jabba the Hutt is that the eyes appear to follow you when looking at Jabba from side to side.

I totally would have given the Max Rebo band adventures in space and join in epic battles. But I was a Lego kid, and back then Lego didn't have licensed properties. I suppose that automatically gave me a different play mindset.

I used a lot of cardboard boxes and styrofoam pieces in my playsets. I particularly remember making a Sarlaac Pit with a box and a blanket.

There were 2 Lego star wars set combining rankor pit with jabbas palace room. Unfortunately both sets are no more for sale.

Example- when I was freelancing in the toy industry I worked on the Polly Pocket Wizard of Oz playset. This went over to Mattel, and I was told that some design guy thought it would be great to have the Yellow Brick Road painted in PURPLE!! And he wasn't joking. My view is that if people like yourself had been on that team there would not have been stupid comments like that. That is a compliment which I hope you understand. I've spent most of my professional life in the toy industry and loved my time there so I totally agree with your views Anyway has Tony Roberts sent you any info recently on the Star Wars vehicles-- I had to do some work on them and a great deal of display work on the range when I was at Palitoy.

I remember getting jabba and the rebo band... i always though that it was a worse punishment to be put under jabbas dais - as he could fart on you which would cause a much more slow and painful death than in the belly of the sarlacc!😂

I just wanna share a story. I saw Return of the Jedi in the movie theatres. I really got scared of him. Then when President Ronald Reagan announced the Star Wars Program sometime later, I was very scared because I thought Jabba would come to earth.

YES! Another Star Wars Follies! Gotta give best overall dance moves to Orko! I remember those cardboard backdrop toys. Seemed kind of cheesy in some ways but was really a great feature and they were never too expensive. Things like backdrops that are less than real are...real enough and don't harm playability. They help set the tone for kids at play. One of the problems that toy manufacturers develop is when they think they need to just make every flippin' character into an action figure. I thought the Max Rebo Ensemble was kind of cool as in they looked great but also had that question of...hey, what do you actually DO with this? Essentially static action figures that should have been a background!

In the 90's I wanted the Dan Figrin band, I think he was like a mail away or something and came with multiple instruments. And I was like, this isn't fair, how am I supposed to get enough of them to make the band? Then I think later on it was a box set, by then I wasn't collecting Star Wars but I was still miffed like: "Why didn't you just make this set years ago?" Meh.

Very enjoyable...The strobe light dancing scene was brilliant! The 5 year old me feels the same about the action part and the band is a waste... but the 45 year old me loves the dance scene you did! I'm surprised Hasbro back in the late 90s and 2000s never did a Ranco cave...Thet had some bad ass Rancors which I still have. The target Exclusive was Awesome..He came with a cave background and luke holding the bone.

There should've been a Mercenary expansion pack. Bobba, IG 88, ...a few others for Jabbas palace. There was 1 from JC Pennys but it was non of the neat guys. To this day, i hate Rey Eyes!@

I loved this video, I’m glad you were able to reupload it for more people to enjoy I am totally tempted to make my own version of your wonderful playset I always think of similar things and wonder why Hasbro doesn’t do this with their bits of plastic & beautiful print quality on sturdy card for their Retro Star Wars releases instead of board games with a figure If they want to sell something with a figure people wanted but never had as an excuse to jack up the price...why not Palitoy Death Star style playsets...at least those would make more sense? Your cardboard box creation with proper graphics would be epic!

tbh as a collector I really wish we got the cantina band in the original Kenner line. What really makes Star Wars for me is the background characters, and the aliens are my favorite part of 3.75 inch figures. The Max Rebo Band had some especially unique sculpts and toolings, and it kinda sucks that they're so expensive on the secondhand market.

this is one time i disagree with you, for me personally and the same for when i was a kid, i LOVED all the background character figures. it is a big part of what made Star Wars figures so great to me.i never really particularly cared about Luke or Leia in multiple different outfits, for me farm boy Luke was always my Luke. every line ever always had just a small handful of figures all just main good guys and bad guys and that got boring to me. having those weird background characters is totally what made Star Wars the toy line awesome to me. my two most wanted unmade figures as a kid were the CZ droid and Yarna, a lot of people seem to think it was weird that i wanted her but she was the first thing we see when we go into Jabbas throne room how can i have a proper Jabba base without her. also A LOT of the figures from the Jedi line were far superior sculpts to the first two films.
