This music piece has been playing in my head ever since I saw him in the trailer. With few exceptions Thrawn is probably the best fleet commanders in both Star Wars and across wider science fiction. Give Thrawn a day to prepare he’s good. Give him a week he’s great. Give him months or years? He’s unbeatable. He is the only reason I would follow the empire.

If a sheep can get control of an army of lions, my bet is on him
@ThelegoLord
@ThelegoLord 3 жыл бұрын
@@zakariaali8864 although I do understand your definition, what this quote actually means is that if an army of lions is led by sheep then its most likely to fall because although there is an army of unstoppable beings which are the “lions”, their leader which is a “sheep” is weak and timid, eventually making the army turn against their leader. Now I don’t wanna point fingers, but The USA is the perfect example of lions being led by a sheep. There are fierce marines and navy men fighting for their country and always dying in the battlefield but their leader, The President, stays in his/her office with luxury and fancy food enough for them to enjoy and when it comes down to it with war, they tend to flea and cower making the USA a weak country, easy enough to penetrate the defenses. Now I know Donald Trump wasn’t the best president, but he was the perfect example of a lion leading an army of sheep. Why? Well here it is. An army of sheep is not imposing at all. However if they are lead by a strong leader then the army is able to learn to become strong aswell. If you think about it, no other President was able to make peace with North Korea because they will always cower and flea. Whereas Donald trump imposed a fearsome threat to the other country and that lead for North Korea to actually love the USA and make peace Now a dictatorship is different. That’s when a lion leads other lions, they are able to withstand anything and destroy everything in their way creating havoc and carnage. Just like the Republic, the clones were lions being lead by a sheep = the USA The Separatist were lions leading lions. Always creating havoc = Afghanistan And The Empire were Lions leading the Sheep...although the empire can be described as lions leading sheep. You have to remember, like Nazi Germany, Nazis were actually wolves in sheep’s clothing leading the lions.

"It is said that one should keep one's allies within view, and one's enemies within reach. A valid statement. One must be able to read an ally's strengths, so as to determine how best to use him. One must similarly be abe to read en enemy's weaknesses, so as to determine how best to defeat him. But what of friends? There is no accepted answer, perhaps because true friendship is so exceedingly rare. But I have formulated my own. A friend need not be kept within either sight or within reach. A friend must be allowed the freedom to find and follow his own path. If one is fortunate, those paths will for a time join. But if the paths separate, it is comforting to know that a friend still graces the universe with his skills, and his viewpoint, and his presence. For if one is remembered by a friend, one is never truly gone." - Grand Admiral Thrawn

In the books Thrawn is the first and only one non human in the Empire. He earn his title by destroying the traitors in the Empire and earn the respect of Palpatine. He became so good in the art of war so the Emperor sees him a treat that can over throne him so he sends him in the unknow to search for new planets and expand the Empire. After the defeat of the Empire on Endor, he returned and collect what left and turn it in to one of the best forces in the galaxy. In the unknow Thrawn founds a creature that can empty the force so he carried it with him on his shoulder everywhere. Any force user was unable to use the force against him. He founds a cloned Master Jedi and corrupt him to work for him . But even in the books he dies betrayed by his personal assassin, stabbed on his Star Destroyer Chair. The new republic celebrate the victory, but they all was deluded , because Thrawn was planned his death, he thought for everything. All this time he had a perfect clone of his self that collect information every day. And when he died, the clone took his place and crushed the republic. He is the first non Sith leader of the Empire. I will always remember how he said that the greatest mistake of Palpatine and Vader was to rule the empire with fear and I will always remember when he said that the greatest force in the universe is not the force it self, it is the information.

“It is said that one should keep one's allies within view, and one's enemies within reach. A valid statement. One must be able to read an ally's strengths, so as to determine how to best use them. One must similarly be able to read his enemy's weaknesses, so as to determine how to best defeat him. But what of friends? There is no accepted answer, perhaps true friendship is so exceedingly rare. But I had formulated my own. A friend need not be kept within sight or within reach. A friend must be allowed the freedom to find and follow his own path. If one is fortunate, those paths will for a time join. But if paths separate, it is comforting to know that a friend still graces the universe with his skills, and his viewpoint, and his present. For if one is remembered by a friend, one is never truly gone.” Well done as always Samuel!

Undoubtedly the most dangerous character in the Star Wars universe. Even more deadly than Darth Sidious in my opinion because unlike Sidious Thrawn is an enigma he lets nothing slip, is completely emotionless and unfazed, has no delusions of grandeur he is simply focused on his goals completely and that’s what makes him so utterly terrifying.

@@andrewchilds8886 with knowledge comes wisdom. With wisdom comes power. With power comes responsibility. Sidious was horrendously irresponsible and often misused his power. Thrawn though would defeat Sidious with his terrifying ability to utilize everything he has to very great effect. My money’s on Thrawn. Even Vader would probably side with Thrawn. He ain’t stupid. He didn’t support the idea of building giant space stations after all and neither did Thrawn. Both Vader and Thrawn had a solid understanding of how things worked. Vader believed in the force. Thrawn believed in a very strong and mobile navy. Between the two of them even plot armor wouldn’t be enough to stop them if they worked together in every battle they could’ve fought.

They should make him the antagonist of a new trilogy. A new sequel trilogy preferably. He would be a threat the big screen has never seen in Star Wars before! Intimidating not because of his raw strength but his sheer intelligence and strategic capabilities. He was always 10 steps ahead of the new republic and almost reformed the empire in legends. THAT is what we needed in a sequel trilogy, not what we got with an even more incompetent empire than the one in the originals.

"It may strain credibility, but it is true. I fought you, once, but I do not intend to fight you now." "Then where is Ezra?" "Ah, yes. Bridger. You will see him soon." A dart floors Sabine. Ahsoka deflects hers, but is hit by a second. "Do not struggle. It is merely a knockout poison. As I said, you will see Ezra soon." Cue the two waking up in a cell. The same cell as Ezra Bridger.

The “do you know the difference between an error and a mistake” scene, when Zahn described the bridge as “dead silent”, all I could hear in my head was the organ, playing this. Probably the most notable thing I have ever felt reading a book, and I’ve read sooo many. So, very, very epic Heir to the empire? No. Hero of the empire.

Just wait until you get to the third book in that Trilogy, The Last Command. Timothy Zahn tops that tractor beam scene with what Thrawn does. It truly made that scene you're referring to come full circle. Timothy Zahn is a master of his craft and imho wrote the true Star Wars sequel trilogy.

@Rising Horizon Gaming Your referring to direct questions EVERYONE who worked with Lucasfilm got in very clearly staged questions after the fan backlash. Every last one of them said something about how toxicity is wrong and Rian Johnson is 'gREaT!' Even Lucas said it was a very beautiful film... which sounds great until you remember his old quote about beautiful films can still be boring. However Timothy Zahn also stated in interviews at that same time period he prefers characters not being killed off and just prefers stories where they overcome challenges... in reference to his old EU characters getting killed off. By that same logic though he doesn't like the Sequels storytelling methodology but his Legends stories. So what Zahn said was on the surface very great, but any examination of the details shows he was steering away from going into more details other than the internet gives people a way to voice things anonymously, thus things appear more toxic today and he personally doesn't like to dwell on negativity. Timothy Zahn does like being involved, so too does Lucas... but just because they were contacted doesn't mean what they discussed was respected. Theres a key difference between those two things. Dont get me wrong, JJ Abrams Star Wars films had tons of issues too. I'm not solely against Rian Johnson but of the directors he is the one who went off script of the planned outlines more than JJ Abrams. Rian Johnson refused any vision but his own and had no follow up plans.

I'm currently reading the new Thrawn trilogy (also from Zahn) and laughing to myself because Timothy Zahn has hacked Disney canon for his own use. Even though the original trilogy is no longer "canon," the new novels are written to not only fit Disney canon but also fit in perfectly with the original trilogy. He built a "pick your own ending" into the new novels and Disney doesn't even know.

@Rising Horizon Gaming At the TIME 7 was filming Daisy Ridley confirmed she was a planned Kenobi. So you really can't trust the Lucasfilm sources, they're covering their butts. They'll say anything to justify Rian Johnson's script. Even though Johnson himself said he threw out the plan on Twitter and they approved his first script.

Agreed, some people act like the Rebels never lose to Thrawn, but he destroys most of their fleet then stops the attack on the tie defender factory before it even begins. The only times Thrawn gets defeated are when the Rebels draw on the mysteries of the Force to win. Thrawn admits that's unpredictable for him. I wish Thrawn did more cool tactical stuff in the show but he wasn't nerfed. Rebels gave him an amazing screen presence with this incredible theme, great voice acting and more.

After reading the books, they did Thrawn's character a dirty. In some respects they did decently, like his appreciation for art and tactical understanding. But they made him seem cold, cruel and even evil, which he was not at all in the books. Maybe a little socially inept. He was quite empathetic and avoided any unecessary loss of life. He cared for those under his command and was mostly concerned with protecting the galaxy from evil forces. He also had a split loyalty between the Empire and the Chiss Ascendancy, so he wasn't blindly loyal to the Emperor.

How else would the Empire / First Order ever have any military victories? It's still appalling to me how militarily incompetent both the First Order and the New Republic / Resistance turned out to be, in the sequel series. Thrawn is absolutely the best answer to that flaw. Even if you're totally unwilling to celebrate martial virtues in your heroes (they can lose every battle but the last), you can't make the villains so incompetent without making a mockery of your heroes' victory.

Hey, I have a story to tell you. Imagine if, in an alternate reality, there was a video game like this being made.... People are surprised that it will be the first Rated M game we've seen from the franchise. The studio developing it promises to take the series in a much darker, more bleak and violent direction than the mainline movies can go. Two years of marketing and a grimdark ARG pass - the ARG is about rebels desperately calling for help in some prison camp, but communication quickly goes dark as they're discovered and executed. People are mislead into thinking someone's making a game about some Admiral Tarkin kind of character - just some other Imperial Officer. The game's title drops at some point, but unknown to the public, this is a "censored" version of the full title. It's just called "In the Emperor's Shadow". People are interested but disappointed already because they're expecting another generic human antagonist like in Rogue One. Then the reveal trailer happens at E3. This music plays, fans who already know this theme immediately cheer, others are still confused. The trailer doesn't show who the bad guy is first, just a bunch of vague and depressing imagery of people living under the oppressive rule of the Empire - people living in poverty and famine, and slave labor. There is exposition from the protagonist - some new character, lamenting about how "this man killed my entire family". The audience is still being mislead as generic propaganda posters are placed throughout the colony, making it look as though as the antagonist is still just some other human general that is leading these troops. Then the audio cuts to some alien general confronting someone. "The theater of war is sacred! My people will defend this space to the very last ship!", this unknown character says, then Thrawn's voice softly replies, "I do so love the theater...." The music ramps up, we still haven't seen Thrawn's face. We get some images of people fighting back, but all of them defeated - entire colonies laid to waste, capital ships destroyed, fighters out maneuvered by the Empire. Big emphasis on the futility of fighting back. Then at around 1:32 we get the epic flash cards, each followed by some new imagery: "BEFORE THE JEDI RETURNED" A quick clip of Luke and Vader fighting in Return of the Jedi, to let everyone know this isn't about either of these characters. "THERE WAS A MAN" Thrawn is finally revealed, sitting on his rotating captain's chair, like a throne. He is surrounded by imperial officers. Fans lose their shit. "WITH MORE VICTORIES THAN ANY FLEET COMMANDER" We see images of rebel fleets being destroyed by overwhelming force. Millions of people are killed. " THE EMPEROR CALLED HIM G R A N D A D M I R A L " Some more teasing images of Thrawn in all his glory, a few more lines to show how cold and calculating he is. Emperor Palpatine gives exposition about how much he trusts him to lead the fleet. " THE EMPIRE CALLED HIM H E R O " We see images of Thrawn in a victory parade, being cheered on by imperial loyalists. " THE REBELS CALLED HIM B U T C H E R " We see very graphic images - the remains of hundreds of people, murdered. Women and children are not spared. Thrawn is depicted as unfeeling sociopath here for dramatic effect, though fans know he also has a great respect for his enemies. 2:24 "WHAT WILL HISTORY CALL YOU?" We see images of hope, bravery, resilience. The main protagonists, whoever they are, keep fighting. They are joined by the rebel fleet. We see the commander of both fleets consult their war map, both enemies trying to gain a tactical advantage, but the leader of the rebels is noticeably more desperate while Thrawn is remarkably calm and comfortable - almost enjoying himself. The real main title drops: T H R A W N In the Emperor's Shadow None of this story is real. But it can be in our dreams.

It's a huge trilogy. Thrawn is described as having literally never lost a single battle - at least not while directly overseeing it and while commanding his capital ship. There is foreshadowing that he always signals when he thinks "fate has chosen a winner" during a battle by casually indulging in a particularly rare alien wine. Captains and officers below him know that once Grand Admiral Thrawn breaks out the wine, it's over. It's almost a running gag for them. Somewhere this is also foreshadowing about the statistics of a whole career without major failure, and how uncanny it is for Thrawn to be this good, but the story keeps hamming up how actually overwhelmingly clever he is and the audience really buys that he's this good. There is also an ironic setup where at some point, Thrawn remarks about the inevitability of defeat - not for himself, but for the protagonists. This is called back on at the ending of the trilogy. For three whole games, the Rebels basically keep trying new plans and strategies and they keep losing. You get the sense that you're basically always on the run, because this is before Return of the Jedi and things are supposed to be really bleak. It's just a series of setback after setbacks. At the final game there is one new backup plan that the rebels have - some strategy that was ignored because it was basically suicide. They have to default to it now because literally all other options are off the table - you have personally witnessed much better plans unravel. The trap that is being prepared for Thrawn's fleet for this third act is basically a "if we can't make it out alive we're taking you with us or we'll die trying" move. There is an unusually low-level fight between the Imperial fleet and the rebel fleet, that is actually within the atmosphere of a planet - it takes place during the day, on a beach, and Thrawn's main ship is so large that it blocks out the sun when he arrives, casting shadows down on the heroes below. The combat between ships is unique for involving much more air and water in the environment. It's almost like blimps and fighter jets shooting at each other. Because of how many dark turns the story took before this point, players legitimately feel that the protagonists really are about to lose, because they know Thrawn doesn't have a canon death at this point in previously established lore. The darkness being cast embodies this dread. Suddenly, the trap, whatever it may be, is successfully sprung, and Thrawn's escorting ships are under heavy fire and his main capital ship is left vulnerable via an EMP blast, or some other event that disables his shields. Thrawn, in all his ego, was not expecting the tables to turn in such a way. He is fully aware of what has just happened. Think back to the ending of At World's End - his ship is now exposed on all flanks and taking fire from all sides - above and below. During this scene, right as the rebels open fire, this song is playing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXTXYnp_r8-epc0 Thrawn is rendered speechless, and as a shocked officer asks him, "Sir! What is happening out there?", he softly replies in a depressed tone, "Inevitability." His crew witness him open the wine bottle from before, and realize that as he pours himself a glass, he accepts defeat. The crew then panics, and everyone abandons their post. Thrawn calmy goes down with his ship, which is now a glorious cacophony of fire and explosions, and it lands in the ocean. As The Force theme plays from the video above, the sky is revealed again because Thrawn's ship has gone under and is now resting/sinking into the ocean. The sun shines on the protagonist's faces, symbolizing a sense of hope that has just been realized for the galaxy. In a post-credits scene, it is revealed that Thrawn survived, and is captured as an emergency boarding team breaks into the remains of the ship. He is considered an extremely valuable asset, and it's implied he either escapes or is bartered in some way in exchange for something - one way or another he is returned to the Empire. This is done as a bit of a cop-out, but it's necessary so that we can have an epic story in the games without retconning whatever is supposed to happen with this character in the future. The story of this series of games still has meaning because it's the first major time the rebels realize the Empire can be defeated, even if they haven't won the war.
