Addendum 30: The Dark Side. An explanation of the Dark Side is warranted, given its potential relevance later. The Dark Side is an inherent aspect of existence; however, succumbing to it is not inevitable. As Master Yoda observed, "Anger, fear, aggression; the Dark Side they are. Should one succumb to the Dark Side, it will forever dominate their destiny, ultimately consuming them." Yielding to the Dark Side results in imbalance. This is because the Dark Side embodies our shadow selves, the aspects of ourselves we unconsciously repress, rendering us vulnerable until we acknowledge them. The Sith seek to breach the protective barrier, allowing the Dark Side to overwhelm all. In the context of Force-wielders, the Jedi represent that very barrier. This explanation should provide sufficient clarity.

Yes and no. The Dark Side is an inherent thing in all Force sensitives. Where the Republic failed is that the Dark Side isn't something to be fearful of, but something to be understood. It is another lesson that can be learned. Being scared of it and not acknowledging it allows it to fester and eventually consume you, which is what happens to those like Dagan who went insane with his obsession over Tanalorr, or Anakin who's wish to save Padme drove him to insane deeds (even doing good can lead to the Dark Side). However, if you embrace it and accept it as a part of your being, like Cere did (remember she was embracing the darkness in the first game), you will never lose yourself to it. TL;DR: The Dark Side is basically trauma: If you don't face it and accept it, it will rule your every action (corruption).
