I played my first game with the new rules last weekend. When I take my learning curve off the table, I have to admit the game is much more cinematic now. The cover rule adds a step that will take a lot of getting used to. But the days of opponents just hanging back until late in the game are over - and I like that.

I think of the objective system as a measure of control of the battle field. Turn one brings the risk of the "fog of water." It feels like the game starts faster. I was getting tired of the setup time before a piece moved in the old system. I do home that objectives will expand. The possibilities of new objective cards seems high. I don't think we've seen all the cards yet. I'm liking most of the changes.

Thank you for the summary! It helps getting reminded from multiple places what changed. I think Jay from 5th Trooper said it well when he said to think of this as a new game, and not old Legion. It just isn't the same, and dwelling on it is kind of a disservice to ourselves. I really like the idea of the new primary objectives, secondary objectives, and advantages. I think one of the guys on 5th Trooper suggested that they should do faction specific objectives and advantages, and I'm totally here for that. I think it would add some very interesting spice to the game.

It's extremely good! The rebels are finally valuable! It's a much faster and smoother game and more fun. There's action even on round one! We love it. I don't understand your opinion about cover? That's one of the best parts of this game. Finally a unit has a chance to block more than one or two hits. When clones or droids have their 16 dice they're rolling and you can have a chance of blocking Any amount of those versus only being able to block a maximum of two if you're in hardcover? A lot of negative stuff in this review. Feels like we weren't playing the same game.

My problem with Cover Saves is the same as 40k. An attack is already RNG. Why do we need to apply RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG to get a final RNG result? Dice on Dice on Dice on Dice always feels redundant. I know RNG adds "drama" but you gotta strike a balance.

Withdraw could be fixed by making it an actual withdrawal: the withdrawing unit may make their spped 1 move, but any subsequent moves may not take them any closer to an enemy unit unless they are moving towards their own base line.

Only had one game so far, but I'm liking almost all of the changes. Folding deployment into turn 1 speeds things up and makes the deployment mire dynamic, no more spending 20 minutes placing units, then spending turn 1 and 2 daring your opponent to move first. Scout, infiltrate, etc seem super important and might not be priced accurately yet, we'll see. My main issues so far are that the scoring seems slightly overcomplicated, and the mega squads might end up being annoying to play against, again time will tell.
@kaiserwilhelm97432 ай бұрын
I feel like withdrawing from melee should come with a penalty. Something like attack of opportunity and in dungeons and dragons. I think this should only happen if the melee unit has only spent 1/2 of their actions or has a standby token of sorts.

A couple of things: -high velocity is treated as immune to deflect -speeders don't get the free reposition -overlap is no longer a thing; you have to stop if you cannot clear the models -grenades, flamethrowers, and mines have a melee-1 range

I dont like how there’s a points cap that can be reached before 5 rounds because that leads to a lot of list building that’s built around winning as fast as possible instead of actually playing the game. Before we had missions that couldn’t be scored until the very end. 40k also has a huge problem with lists that revolve around tabling you turn one or two and makes you question why we even set up a table if we’re not even gonna play a full game

I've played multiple skirmish games and one standard game; may have been the table layout we had but it definitely felt like cover has gone from way too easy to get to much harder to get with the new "minis must be within 3inch to benefit" Melee units and force users are feeling very strong in this new edition, and going fast is incredibly valuable to get onto those objectives early I've not tried a pure gunline list yet or any prepared position units, but I am suspecting that traditional gunlines will struggle if they are unable to remain effective whilst moving up the table Overall I've enjoyed the games I've had and I'm looking forward to trying out various list types to see how they function in the new edition

Not given it much thought but a way to keep the old cover system while making small die pools relevant would be to limit cover to "remove x hits up to y", depending on level of cover. Say light cover removes 1 hit to a minimum of 2, making it weak against snipers but works more or less the same against most unit pools.

Just played my own game of this new rules change. We got some rules wrong ourselves, but made do. We found it frustrating that there is such a huge change to missions and setup, that without having cards printed, cut out, and properly sleeved up, that it's basically wasn't worth attempting those rules, and we just played with the old mission setups. We've also generally agreed that the changes to transport and cohesion needed some house rules. Without a Half range ruler, it's more consistent to still use 1 speed movement markers to check normal cohesion. And with Transports, the change from a utility option for getting slow-moving models and close range units to the front to an alternate, limited deployment was unpopular. We just just decided to use the old Transport rules to continue to justify using transport vehicles. And we'll probably continue to do so as the changes to transports just feels like such a downgrade.
