As I was also sat there as a wee young chap at the time, it was out in mid 1977 but didn't get to us here in blighty till December 77 so we probably saw it as part of our school holidays. I lookfoward to see how you develope your Star Wars Legion forces, assuming you like the game.

@@PriceyCommissionPainting Think I'll be following along with these First steps of yours into a wider universe to paraphrase a smidge ;) Tbh having The Star Wars annual from 1977 also helped with which year it was out with a top up from some google. I probably had the annual before I actually saw the movie!
