Action fleet was amazing. Everything cost effective. Could get a bunch of ships and characters for low cost. I played with them all the time. Basically the ships were the action figure size and the figures were accessories for the ships. Playset could be large compared to the humans as they should be. It worked really really well. Most of the action fleet figures were statis pilots but some had guns and weapons and those were the figures that got more play value. Those were usually in sets with other more action oriented mini figures.

I personally preferred smaller figures like army men and lego minifigures, but I think that comes down to fundamentally different styles of play. My play style focused far more on building and composing scenes that represented locations I was imagining, rather than dynamically moving figures around as part of a specific scenario. The smaller figures allowed me to depict larger-scale scenes in the same amount of space (for example, a full city rather than just one building). With the larger, standard-sized figures, there was always an upper limit to the scale of what I could depict.

I don’t know Michael, I think the inclusion of figures is really awesome. Although I agree with the frustrations about seating them correctly or the constant rattling, the inclusion of figures is a nice option to have when playing with these. You can look inside the cockpits and see a little Luke Skywalker or Han Solo flying, which is pretty cool in my opinion. Otherwise, you could just buy smaller scale models if you really don’t care about the figures; but i really think that’s the whole point about Jazwares Micro Squadrons. The figures are the pièce of résistance.

I will defend this line to the very end as I love toys of Star Wars vehicles, and the fact these are for the most part to scale is a major selling point. And let’s not forget all the different ships available right now and coming soon. There’s ships from literally every era available from Republic gunships, x wings, to tie fighters, and several versions of the millennium falcon oddly enough, I have 2 myself. Listening to the guys who make this line talk about their passion and that they do listen to what vehicles the fans want or what features they want is true dedication right there. Plus the paint on the figures is getting better every wave. And the fact that the preorders for upcoming ships sell out fast shows there’s plenty of life to this line

I actually played with Micro Machine and Action Fleet stuff when I was a kid in the late 90's, early 00's. It was great because it allowed stuff like Godzilla, Gundam, Zoids, Pokemon and Digimon to get involved in play. There was even Micro scaled Digimon playsets at that time, and I really regret having never got one of those as it was one of the only way to get figures of the actual human characters from the television series. There were also Action Fleet Starship Trooper toys, and Micro Machines Aliens and Predator toys. You could literally have Gundams and Digimon fighting hoards of the Bugs in tatooine for example, as absurd as that may seem. We 90's kids didn't get much for the 1/18 scale outside of Star Wars, and a GI Joe revival that no other millennial seemed to care about and some other odd lines such as Trend Masters Godzilla line for a movie that was hated by most for decades to come. The micro scale offered a huge opportunity for some wild as hell times, and it was great. Nothing was really properly scaled to each other, so it was more about just using what you had and getting things close enough, it didn't require too much imagination. The Yavin IV base and Death Star play-sets were a center focus of the conflicts between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon on the living room and bedroom floors of my house back in 2001-2002. Micro Galaxy Squadron is kind of neat in a nostalgic way, but Jazwares is procucing both it's pseudo Action Fleet and Micro Machine toys in a time when there's not a lot else for them to interact with. It feels like it's just Star Wars and normal Earth cars, maybe some non-transforming Transformers Micro Machines (which seems oxymoronic to me) and I doubt this is as good of an opportunity for play for the current generation of children like it was in the 80's all the way up to the mid '00s and I wonder if that's something they'd even be interested in. It pains me to think that the kind of fun I had as a kid is inaccessible and possibly considered undesirable for all other generations.

I got some of these for Christmas. Falcon, Slave One, Jedi Starfighter. I decided there and then to keep them boxed, despite itching to fire up the Falcon's engines. jazzwares say they are working on some of these issues. I believe that they said they would be including stands with more ships in the future. In some interviews it seemed like they where rushing to put out the first wave. you can tell they have worked on quality of the newer waves of ships. for example Poes X-wing now properly locks the wings in position. Id definetly say let them put out another few waves to see how they have progressed since wave one. so far I Really enjoy this Line but I do agree there are some questionable choices in these designs.

I already had plenty of Transformers, He-Man and GI Joe so my parents refused to buy me any 3 3/4 Star Wars stuff, but they did get me the Micro stuff though. I think another disappointing aspect of this line is the concept of "chase" vehicles. I was mostly okay with these being niche repaints of normally available vehicles, but some vehicles like Moff Gideon's Tie and General Grievous' Starfighter (along with store exclusives like the Bad Batch Marauder Shuttle and upcoming AT-AT Walker) are harder to get and can only really be found online at outrageous premiums

Great points made here. Imo I think Jazwares was trying to strike a happy medium with satisfying both the younger crowd who want to play with these and the older collectors who just want to display them. It's pretty clear this line is vehicle focused, which is why only vehicles have play features, why only vehicles are scaled up/down but figures are unchanged, and why they haven't released any accessories for the figures themselves. If you look at the new Imperial Shuttle, the doors are too short that the figures can't stand under them, even with how tiny the figures are already. They scaled down the Shuttle so that it's small enough to collect (more room for you to buy more), but big enough that it doesn't look out of place with the rest of the line. Despite the figures being more of an accessory to the vehicles rather than actual playable figures, I think the line serves it's purpose. We already have 2 different scales for figures (Black Series/The Vintage Collection) and MGS fills in the vehicle void. It's small enough to prevent space concerns, lends itself to being more affordable, but is still full of great sculpt and detail. I do agree that Jazwares totally should have included display stands. That's a glaring flaw for sure.

No joke, my kid let me know you had a New video up before I even saw a notification. He’s all over the micro SW line since it came out. Must be genetic because I was all about the 90’s Action Fleet. Side note: I checked the kiddo’s X Wing and the R2 is secure when we turn it upside down, and there is a slight wiggle from with the fuselage and wings. I’ll take a guess that there random QC issues that will probably be a hit/miss situation. Still, stinks to get a vehicle that’s janky right out of the package. But yeah, the stands for the vehicles would be a huge addition for the line. I definitely employed the Action Fleet stands with my setup back in the day. Younger folks did use them!

I very much agree on the limitations of the scale, but I think the need for this line is more from TVC’s unwillingness to produce mainline vehicles and sets that are cost effective- in this line, the biggest ticket items are all under $100! It’s really cool to own vehicles that are pretty close to in scale with their figures when I know the TVC and LEGO offerings will often be out of budget (especially for things like the Falcon) and TBS is lucky to get one speeder bike in the line every 3 years

I do like the little figures though, even though they aren't practical for play. The Falcon is very good, but I'd rather they left out the lights / sounds for more scene accurate areas inside, and had an opening passage to the cockpit. I also thought the middle section should have moveable guns at either end, and be able to sit a figure in each end - which wouldn't have made much difference to the design. So close to being a perfect mini-Falcon...

I'll hang on to my galoob ships I bought years ago. The look cool in the window box, and it was the affordable way for me to get a lot of the SW vehicles I didn't have otherwise. The Jazwares ships did catch my eye, but I've passed on them.

As a kid, I was always looking for higher quality figures or toys just because I was detail oriented. Plus what kid doesn’t want to feel like an adult collector? The display stand argument is totally valid bro I hate that kids toys get shafted on quality so much

Loved the micromachines and the action fleet when they hit the shelves in 1995

everything i collect has always been in the service of the 3 3/4" scale, anything that doesnt work with that scale i have zero use for. so the original micro scale i never had any of it and i do not remember any of the kids i knew back then having any either, and micro machines were pretty popular and i had friends with them but i never had any interest. i also weirdly have never been all that concerned with most vehicles, i was always into figures and playsets. but the old Action Fleet i was really into, mostly the figures that is. i didnt like the micro machine figures because they were little statues, but the Micro Machine figures were articulated. you could not do much with them but still it mattered to me that they looked like little action figures, and they had a use for me because i used them as action figures for my action figures when i made dioramas. to this day i still plan to make a toy store diorama using some of them. when i first saw this line i was curious because the figures really do look like action fleet to me and i almost wondered if some of them were the same molds, i didnt look too closely and didnt realize it was a different company and i guess you sad the figures were very slightly smaller? i dont need them anyway i have far more micro machine figures than i will ever make use of. i am SURE they could still sucker me in though if they did a Cantina playset or figures.

I have a bunch of the Action Fleet vehicles, and got the new Micro Fleet MF last year as it blows the Action Fleet one away. I do wish it came with a stand though.

Really good breakdown of these, and couldn't agree more on the missed opportunities. I had a pile of the old Galoob Action Fleet as well, and the figures were never a draw, I just wanted cool ships to swoosh around and display. For this new line, I've only picked up the Falcon, mostly on a whim since it was on sale, and much cheaper than the Bandai 1/144 kit. I'm sad that my intuition about the X-Wing was right though, the almost translucent quality of the plastic bugged me from the get-go. I'm not terribly disappointed though, since I love building the models, and have a good-sized collection of all the fighters by way of the Bandai snap kits. The thing I'm most looking forward to with this line is the fact that they're finally making an Imperial Shuttle, which Bandai has never gotten around to, for some reason. The old Galoob Action Fleet version was probably one of their worst scaling abominations, and I'll be happy to have one that's a manageable size, since the old Kenner version is such a monster.

I really like the new micro vehicles, easy to display on a shelf with good detail. I’m not really looking to do more then well just admire them.

I'm a big fan of the line. I'm by no means a completionisy but I'm happy to pick up my favorite Star Wars ships for a decent price.

I've been an avid collector of these for a bit, as well as many other miniature lines in my time of collecting, and while I do love and understand the benefits of the larger, more articulate lines like 3 3/4 inch, I've always got a soft spot for these kinds of ships. I do quite agree with the points of the landing gear and display stands, but while I understand the unappealing state of the mini pilots for the various starships, I felt they were really only meant to be bonus parts to simply put in the ship (if I wanted both a feature-filled starship and a posable figure, I'd just go with 3 3/4 inch). On top of that, the mini size was something that not only saved me and, as child, my mum some money, but I oddly preferred the mini scale rather than the mainstay 3 3/4, even with their limitations. There's something about the smaller size and the larger play area that I really like about these things. All in all, I don't regret getting them for my collection and swooshing habits. Hell, they fit in with those Snap Ships I've gotten a while back and, albeit awkwardly, the Lightyear hyperspeed miniatures.

Long before Kenner’s micro collection there was another line of die-cast metal and plastic toy vehicles that were popular when the first two movies came out (‘78-‘81?). I cannot recall who made them. I do know the line was pretty extensive. I had the Falcon, an X-Wing, a Tie Fighter, and a Star Destroyer. The scale was all over the place, but I didn’t care. They were fun to play with and had some nice detail for the time. Later I had the micro collection X-Wing, and Tie Fighter, and loved them for their detail a playability. The full size vehicles were nice, but I simply didn’t have room for them. These new toys have caught my eye, and I have thought of getting a few… But I’m glad you beat me to it! I think we are on the same page on their pros and cons!

I believe you’re talking about the kenner diecast ship line; I have a falcon, Slave I, y-wing, star destroyer, all from that lineup. Some, like Slave I, were itty bitty, while others were about action fleet-sized.
