This show makes it look like there's no such thing, but the X-Ray laser is definitely real. I saw an episode of 60 minutes where they demonstrated the x-ray laser in action (long ago). It was a shallow cylinder moving like a satellite dish tracking the incoming missile. Something that looked like tin foil was distorting in the center. Then the missile started smoking and fell out of the sky. In the same segment, Reagan gave Teller some kind of award for inventing the x-ray laser.
