They are prequels, the plan was automatic. Most of the story didn't need effort. The Jedi had to fall, the Empire had to rise, Anakin had to become Vader, Obi-won and Yoda had to survive and Luke and Leia had to be born. There's little room for freedom and creativity.

For his opening argument, he already made a bad statement as the Prequel films alone didn't hurt Star Wars at all, it actually helped as it built up this galaxy, showing us what the universe was like and did something the OT never did, it added lore to the mythos. Think about the opera scene where it introduces us to the story of Darth Plaguis, where it created an entire legend that we don't even know if it's true or not, but we instantly became invested in that and wanted far more information on this one character that none of us even knew existed UNTIL that moment.

Yes some can argue that the prequels ruined the Original, but it only ruined one of the villains and some of the elements that should’ve been left alone. I definatley agree. I understand the Prequels can be a little anticlimactic, but it was at least George Lucus' vision. Plus, even though people didn't like some of the plot, he tried to improve on what he had besides making dramatic changes. When you also think about it, back when the Original series, George Lucas had some help making them. He made the Prequels by himself. When he wanted to make the Clone Wars series he knew he needed help. Which is where Dave Filoni came in. Dave Filoni knew what George was looking for and use his experience working on the Avatar series, and help make a spectacular series that help make the Prequels better. As for the Sequels, I have nothing nice to say about that. The true Sequel is the Mandalorian. "THIS IS THE WAY!" 💪

The prequels had their issues , no one would claim they don’t, but it was more issues if needed to be tightened up then a failed premise. In terms of lore, charActers, abilities and giving us structure it was amazing. All the sith and giving you a sense of how dangerous everyone was, Hell take jango+ zam wesell Chickasaw boba a far better showcase how regular people can and do stack up to Jedi. All the armies , knowing the people and the traps... Leading a galactic civil war with two disposable armies that could turn on the enemies of the sith at any time via just battle attrition, betrayal or anything else..... Fundamentally the prequels made the lore and universe BETTER. More interesting setting to set stories and have fun in , shows, books, comics and games. The sequels murdered it. There is no where to go and they have only desperate redirected what they haven’t already killed from old legends like Thrawn. So prequils all the way.

Damn Ben, so salty about the youtubers. The sequels action scenes were terrible. PSA Sitch points out that one scene with Rey fighting the six sith troopers, that apparently you completely forgot about, was actually the same scene played twice with slightly changed blaster special effects to make it seem different. And Shadivesity points out how messy the throne room fight is, with stuntman missing marks, to Rey kicking one guy and knocking three guys back, to them having to edit out a knife to make it so Rey didn't just die during the fight. Shad also did a full hour breakdown on the Obi vs Anakin fight in 3 and shows that in actuality, that fight is tremendous. It really saddens me that the director of a show that has created some of the greatest fight animations online even better than Hollywood teams can have such subpar standards for multi billion dollar studios

The Prequels didn’t take away from or take away from ANY of the Previous Films in the Original Trilogy. It built upon the Established Lore and even further expanded it. The Last Jedi may’ve brought forth a few interesting ideas, but outside of that, the Sequel Trilogy does nothing new and only further demotes the Legacy of the Previous Trilogies .

I just picture them as a bad alternate universe. What if the prophecy is a lie and the Sith will return despite establishing that the Chosen One will be the one to end them? What if characters just pretend that they've never questioned hyperspace ramming despite the technology being around for thousands of years? What if the Force is just a troll by making someone so good and knowledgable at everything despite no training? What if the heroes are just jerks (Luke, Holdo, etc.)?

The Prequel Trilogy destroys the sequel trilogy I actually own all six OG Trilogy and the Prequels and find myself going back to watching them all the time and as I was growing up the Prequels were coming out and I loved them as a kid and nostalgia for me I always liked the Prequels and was never part of the negative backlash and to me ROTS is so amazing and my favorite entry in the Prequels it is on par with an OG Trilogy movie and my second favorite SW movie behind ROTJ. But the fact that I do not own any of the “sequel” trilogy movies in my kollection should tell you enough and as a HUGE fan of the Expanded Universe growing up reading the Novelizations, the Comics by Dark Horse, playing the Video Games and I refuse to call it “Legends” that to me was the true canon everything before 32 BBY and after 4 ABY when Disney proclaimed all those stories and characters I loved non canon I was completely broken but wanted to see what they could do giving them the benefit of the doubt only to be disappointed TFA was decent and more tolerable than all the other crappy movies that followed up but nothing more than a rehash of ANH and unoriginal any of the 3 Prequels and AOTC my least favorite Prequel movie is leagues better than TFA as of now I do NOT want any EU characters to be “Canonized” they did so with Revan and Grand Admiral Thrawn some really top tier characters I don’t want these characters I loved to be butchered or shadows of their former selves now I do like The Clones Wars and Mandalorian but sadly all that is going to lead to the dumpster fire thats the sequel trilogy unless it becomes a separate timeline but as of now I lost hope like Cade Skywalker and need GM Luke’s guidance now more than ever.

The sequel trilogy aren't even consistent among their own timeline. This isn't even a contest. The Prequels aren't good movies, but they didn't harm the brand. The Sequels seem to have been made by people who either fundamentally misunderstood Star Wars, or by people who actively hated it.

The prequels are genius once you understand that the duel with darth maul (the duel of the fates) was actually about the fate of anikin. Had Qui-gon not died, there would have never been a darth Vader.

Putting aside any commentary on the quality of the sequels, the simple fact that they wiped away decades of universe lore and shuffled it off to the non-canon closet, even though Lucas had vetted it, was an immediate strike against anything Disney puts out on the Star Wars front. All that creativity tossed into the bin because they couldn't be arsed to keep it in mind is just an insult to all the authors and fans who loved the franchise. Hell, it's not even like they had to pay any attention to it to begin with, they sure haven't with the Marvel movies. Just name it the Star Wars Cinematic Universe and call it a day. Wouldn't make the sequels any better, but it would at least soothe the rage of some segments of the fandom.

Prequels had: Pod racing, Duel of the Fates, Amidala's outfits, Ewan MacGregor, brand new uses of CGI (cringe now but at the time impressive that they tried to actually build sets and locations like that), the Anakin/Obi-Wan Mustafar fight, Dooku as a whole, Palpatine (a love letter to the Fandom's character actually) going from decent seeming politician to Evil Emperor, Jedi history and lore, and all of the space fights. They gave us new Jedi and Sith, furthering the original's controversy of different races/aliens getting along. Kids, there was a time Darth Maul was literally the scariest thing in existence, haunting nightmares because you didn't know anything about the evil Tiefling jedi except he hunted you to awesome music. We got world building, both sides of an argument, new lightsabers, new monsters with enough screen time to make an impact, and they did General Greivious dirty compared to his animated debut but he was there. By contrast, the sequels gave us nothing substantially memorable (possible exceptions are the visual moments of the "Holdo Maneuver" and Luke milking out of sheer cringe.) Nothing fan related in the world building, nothing new in the plot except current political pandering. Creatures were forgettable, no amazing new characters besides the potential of Kylo Ren and Fin in 7. No "smells bad on the outside" or watching the mechanics of riding a war gecko. To quote Jellopacalpse, the writing was flying by the seat of it's oversized clown pants. 7 was a remake. 8 was a "burn it all down", where we got the cursed, universe and lore breaking visuals. 9 was a video game fetch quest with contrivance after contrivance with constant pandering. Prequels gave us substance and Star Wars. Sequels gave us Star Wars as written by Mean Girls. I'll endure sand and awkward romance and Jar-Jar before rewatching dropped plothooks, dropped characters and world building, and dropped potential. At least Jar-Jar was somewhat interesting visually and distinct enough we can all mock and laugh at... can't say the same for anything or anyone from the Sequels.

Sequels: Great new characters with fantastic actors. Likeable main character. The return of practical effects. The OG trilogy's cast giving their all. Everybody's arcs in The Last Jedi. All the new interesting ideas of TLJ. Actually well choreographed fight scenes, with characters' personalaties presented. Strong dialogue. Prequels: Jar Jar Binks. Baby Anakin. Unlikeable and whiny main character. Great actors with terrible scripts and zero direction. Horrible effects. Nonsensical writing. Fight scenes that look ridicilous. The Prequels were a labour of love that needed a proper editor board. They used CGI in revolutionary ways for their time and fleshed out the Star Wars universe into the library of lore it became. The Sequels were an incompetent corporate dumpster fire that turned into a pissing contest between two hack directors who don't understand Star Wars. If they weren't lazy ripoffs of the original trilogy, they were hateful deconstructions that only served to mock fans for expecting something fun and engaging. Anyone who likes the Sequels has serious mental problems.

Here’s two possible what ifs that I learned and realized. 1. What if Qui Gon survived and defeated Darth Maul with Obi Wan. That would put an end to the Dark side and siths. However, Anakin would be a Jedi, but he would never let emotions out and can’t focus on the Dark side, therefore he can’t marry Padme and is not the chosen one. 2. What if both Qui Gon and Obi Wan are killed by Darth Maul. The dark side would take over the universe and Anakin would fall into the dark side. Which means that like the first theory, he never marries Padme and can’t balance the force. So, both of these what ifs would make the Original Trilogy non exist.

From what I have seen, the prequels for all their faults simply left people wanting more Starwars, which is why they were excited for the Force Awakens. The Sequels seemed to have killed any desire for more Starwars and its done the impossible and made people miss the prequels. I think that alone slaughters the sequel trilogy, its existence makes you miss what used to be universally loathed so yeah, I will go with the prequels myself. Plus, until Disney makes some stuff to expand the sequel trilogy like Lucasfilm did with the prequels with the Clone Wars cartoon, the aforementioned Clone Wars show makes the characters and setting a lot more enjoyable, even redeeming Darth Maul and giving him an interesting arc. I really don't see what they could do with the sequel trilogy since everyone is dead except for Rey who just steals the Skywalker name after burying Luke and Leia on a planet they both hated.

I love the mental gymnastics tying themselves in knots here as they try not to be too critical of the sequel movies because they aren't supposed to agree with 'toxic fans' about things, I absolutely love the sequel Defender attempts to make JJ Abrams responsible for the failure of The Last Jedi because he handed Rian Johnson story pieces that didn't have nice little bows tied on them with the expectation of either bows being tied on them or them being carried over to the third movie and instead Ryan Johnson set fire to them and tried to do his own thing regardless of what that meant for what came before and what would come after

The arena on Geonosis was really cool and the movie also explains where both armies are made. Everything on Kamino was pretty cool. Jango is just as cool as Boba. Ren's outfit, helmet, and saber are awesome though. The Saber also makes a lot of sense, but the fights don't.
