Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast: Andor 3. Reckoning

In this episode, I (Luca) mix up Joseph Smith with Joseph Campbell-oops! Campbell, not the other guy, is the author of The Hero with a Thousand Faces. George Lucas credits Campbell's work as a major influence on the creation of the Star Wars saga. Campbell's basic argument is that all our heroes from mythology and fairy tales stem from the same archetypal hero, forming a much older "monomyth." These heroes may have different journeys, but their stories follow a common set of events known as "The Hero's Journey."
When Cassian meets the buyer in this episode, we discuss the "Call to Adventure," a pivotal moment in the hero's journey where the protagonist is beckoned to leave the familiar for the unknown. This moment is crucial in Cassian's journey, setting the stage for his transformation.
We also see a lot of Stellan Skarsgård in this episode. His performance is a definite highlight, especially for those who remember him as Dr. Selvig in the Thor franchise. We can't wait to see how his character's relationship with Cassian evolves throughout the series. If you're familiar with Campbell's work, you might have some guesses about the fate of the "mentor character."
