The reason the Generation 1 armor was stronger because there was a larger financial investment in Clone soldiers. They didn't need to spend as much money on the armor for conscripted recruits because conscripts are easily replaceable, so therefore their safety isn't as important to the Empire.

But it was also heavy and hard to move in, hence the emergence of Phase 2 (generation 2) clone armor, which was lighter and easier to move in, but wasn't as strong. Instead of just switching to Phase 2 armor, Rex took his Phase 1 armor and combined it with Phase 2 armor, making it the best of both gens (hence why his helmet is so unique; the grey-ish lines you can see on his helmet and torso armor are actually welding marks)

One of my favorites episodes of Rebels! Basically a Clone Wars episode. It was really cool to seeing Rex kinda going back in time, I think the PTSD was a very mature thing to include in the show. Love the reaction, Emme! Also, I'm glad you noticed the tittle screen in the end being a reference to Clone Wars, because a lot of reactors that I follow didn't get that.

Prior to The Bad Batch, this episode highlighted the Separatist Holdouts that the Empire used as justification for its increasing military buildup before the Rebellion become a more recognized threat. Furthermore, a number of Rebels weren't former supporters of the Republic, but in point of fact former Separatists. This episode also acknowledged that despite how hard both sides fought, neither actually won the war because neither side was meant to win the Clone Wars - the Galactic Empire was the winner of the Clone Wars. With each battle and crisis, Palpatine gained more and more power until he was finally able to proclaim himself Emperor.

Good episode this one, Rex getting to lay some old ghosts to rest. (fun fact: "Roger" originated with pilots using radios, back when "Roger" was the US phonetic alphabet representation for the letter "R", and just means "Received", as in "I received your last transmission/order". The phonetic alphabet later changed to "Romeo" but by then "Roger" was so ingrained it stuck around)

What I really like about this episode is something inside the fandom. You see, before the Inhibitor Chip stuff came out, no one had an answer as to why the Clones turned on the Jedi and the Republic so easily. Though some early Episode III scripts suggested a kind of mind control, their only real answers were “the Jedi were so awful that the Clones were happy to participate in a genocide one day” and “the Clones were so slavishly loyal to the Chain of Command that they did it without a second thought.” When the Inhibitor Chips were revealed in Season 6 of TCW, a lot of “fans” didn’t like them (story of the franchise). And here is this little Saturday Morning Kiddie cartoon on a Disney channel with lightsabers that are too thin and it introduces a group of rusted Battle Droids who are smarter than literally every Clone in Karen Travis’s books. I just find that funny.

Clones *always* addressed their Jedi as "General" (except Padawans, which were given the rank of Commander). I don't know why Rex addressed Kanan as "Commander" here, as that would have been appropriate for Ezra (who coincidentally also, briefly, held the rank of Commander within the Ghost Crew). 7:00 Rex actually wears Phase 1 ARC Trooper armor (with a Phase 2 respirator welded onto the helmet). Phase 1 armor was more durable, but less flexible/comfortable. Phase 2 armor was more advanced, but less durable. 10:45 I'm 99% sure Rex was referring to the *first* Battle of Geonosis (which occurred in the Attack of the Clones movie, not the *second* Battle of Geonosis, which happened later in the Clone Wars). The first Battle of Geonosis was notable for being one of the worst battles of the Clone Wars, with countless clones AND Jedi dying during it.

@SigTheSauceMan
@SigTheSauceMan Жыл бұрын
@@JGTiberius But Kanan was a Jedi *Knight* by this point. So he should have been addressed as "General." And even if he was a Padawan during the Clone Wars, he was still too young to even be a Commander, as he was still a kid, much younger than Ahsoka was when she first appeared.
@JGTiberius
@JGTiberius Жыл бұрын
@@SigTheSauceMan General and Commander are not just ways to address Jedi. They are officer ranks in the republic army granted to Jedi to command troops. You do not automatically become a general as a Jedi knight. Luke can not become a commander or general either because no authority exists to grant these ranks anymore. I don't remember if Kanan is addressed as commander in the bad batch or not. If he isn't Rex was just even more confused than I expected.

To comment on clone trooper armor for a second. Yes, the newer armor was worse, however the newer armor was also better in a number of different ways. Phase 1 armor was extremely good at protecting against direct blaster shots and allowed prolonged exposure to the vacuum of space, however was heavy and as a result very uncomfortable to wear and as well wasn't very durable against extreme pressure and other sorts of environmental damage. Phase 2 armor was lighter, flexible, and more comfortable to wear and provided better protection from the elements, however the trade off was it was weaker against blaster shots and less of an ability to seal itself to allow for space and toxic environments, which necessitated rebreather units. To get a clear picture of what Rex was saying about Gen 1 armor, look at the earlier seasons of the Clone Wars versus later seasons. You clearly see when a trooper gets shot in the earlier seasons of the clone wars, there are no blaster holes in the armor. Like you just never see them, even up close. Compare that to later seasons where every time a trooper got shot, it left a gaping hole in them. Think Fives and Commander Thorn. This is why Rex's Phase 2 armor was welded to create a combo of the two, giving Rex the best of both worlds in combat. His helmet was a combo of the two, and as for his body armor his chestplate was phase 1 as that was the part most prone to blaster fire, and the rest of the armor which provided mobility was phase 2 giving him better comfort. It was a signifier of his more independent thinking compared to the rest of the clones.

While praising Ezra for ending it is a bit cheesy, the intent was that Ezra essentially helped bring closure to Rex about the Clone Wars, and to an extent that battle droid. Cause no matter how you look at it, the ending of the Clone Wars was like falling into a nightmare and coming out confused and unsure of what the hell just happened. Also, though the droids refused to aid the Rebellion, in Rebels Recon, it was stated that if the Rebels gained a significant victory over the Empire, like blowing up a certain space station that was no moon, the droids would join up.

The Empire created a conscripted occupation force for thousands of worlds, as opposed to the GAR, which was basically a specialized assault force to break Seperatist controlled of a much smaller number of key planets. They probably needed hundreds of times the number of troops, so the more capable armor would have been ruinously expensive.

With each phase the material of the clone armor got worse, to cut corners. Rex' armor actually is welded together of several pieces. He always chose the best part of each new version. Stormtrooper armor is paperthin compared to the old clone armor, mass-produced, not really made for protection, just for intimidation.
@mh2120
@mh2120 9 ай бұрын
I feel like Stormtrooper armor is a bit more like riot control gear. The helmets provide protection against smoke, gas, and I would imagine flashbangs/flares as well. The body armor would offer at least some protection against shrapnel and glancing blaster bolts at a distance, but would probably be much more effective against low powered civilian blasters, which they probably came across much more often since they were acting as occupiers on so many worlds. Like how even the most basic kevlar vest today would stop a small caliber civilian pocket pistol, like the little .25 and .32 caliber pistols that were popular at the turn of the century.

The B1 battle droid is in many ways the best droid in Star Wars for me. I ofcourse love Chopper, R2D2 or B-D1 but there is something so awesome about the B1, it is mostly used for comedic purposes, since its so poorly programmed and basically useless individually so it's perfect as some levity, however when used properly as in the clone wars, to swarm and overwhelm with massive numbers it is still a very formidable threat. Out of all the nameless, mass produced droids, i think the B1 is only outmatched by the mighty Gonk droid
